Plenty of Bass
Posted by: dvdnet from: LA on
This subwoofer is large and packs a large punch. The construction appears high end and seems like it should have cost more. The cabinet is actually a wood grain with a light satin rub and more of a grey color than the picture shows. The manual says it requires a breaking in period so I have been running it pretty hot with the crossover up to 80hz and it makes your skull vibrate. When I cut it down to 60hz it blends perfectly with the rest of my system. If your mains can't reach down to 60hz this might be a little overpowering to make up the difference. I actually put it in an enclosed built-in cabinet that I have to the right of my television. No difference in the sound with the cabinet opened or closed but it does take up the entire cabinet. My room is 23 x 23 and this fills it up. For the price I can see no reason to pay more unless you need something smaller.

Best Buy's BEST Budget Subwoofer
Posted by: HomeTheaterCT1 from: Connecticut on
With the sizable list of budget subwoofers sold by Best Buy this is the top performer. Keep in mind this is not a marketplace item, it is a BB item just not displayed in BB stores. Having owned numerous powered subwoofers over the years, used in various applications, I am confident providing highly favorable feedback here. This item outperforms its competition in this price range and contends with if not surpasses subwoofers sold at BB in the $400-$500 price range. Frequency response is impressive, the sub handles dynamic change and extension very well, tight response, no bottoming out, no port noise, no amp noise, great for HT and music. The enclosure is large but built to perform and looks great. BASH amp technology and solid woofer construction.

This sub has quite a bit of power to it, but the volume/crossover dials are touchy, making it tricky to get tuned just right, either too much or not quite enough bass, but one can get it with some patience. One nice thing is the lack of port hiss even at high volumes. I've pushed this thing, and it could break windows if I really tried and very little hiss is heard. Having some standard legs would be nice, these pointed ones work well on carpet, but I have hardwood.

What more could you want in a subwoofer?
Posted by: Retired2erly from: El Paso, Tx. on
I didn't like the first one I bought, so I bought another.
We have a large, rectangular family room (30'x15'), with 12' ceilings, two 9' open doorways and one end opening into our kitchen. Lousy room for acoustics! Also, my wife made me put in in-wall and in-ceiing speakers, so the sound was severely compromised from a previous Klipsch surround sound system.
These subwoofers are part of my new 7.2 music system, and really do the job. I hide them in corners behind upholstered chairs, and the cabinet color (more dark charcoal than black, matches my wife's "punch" wall, which is also charcoal gray. She's happy - I'm happy.
Calibrating the subs with my Yamaha receiver (V773) was a little challenging, and I had to adjust the YPAO system manually to get more bass. Still more tweaking to do, but the sound is great. We watched "Iron Lady" last night, and when the IRA bomb exploded near PM Thatcher's hotel room, my wife nearly had a heart attack, and it woke up my old dog on the other side of the house.
LIke the fact, that the subs go inactive after the receiver is turned off.
Tickled pink so far.

extremely pounding bass. Rattles the windows
Posted by: AudioMK from: K.C.,MO. on
My son and friends have Sony and Klipsch units 10 and 12 inch. I have BIC America 10 and 12 inch units. The 10 inch is tremendous with pounding bass that fills a 25 by 30 foot room. I then purchased the BIC America 12 inch. I moved my 10 inch upstairs and put the 12 inch in our 25X30 room. My wife and I say that this 12 inch is way to much. I should have stayed with the 10inch. I have to turn down the 12 inch in order to properly complement Blue Ray 7.1 pounding movies. If your neighbors like bass they will hear it. I have no doubt this unit sounds off at least 18Hz. This unit offers very controlled bass.

Will match any home theater

I was looking for a powerful down firing subwoofer. This was on the top of the list among the many name brands that I was considering. Bic is a reputable speaker company. With it's size, features and specs, it was a no brainer for me to buy this. I'm glad I did because it did not disappoint. You can adjust the frequency to match your speaker setup. It may take some adjustments, but once you dial it in, it is amazing! It sounds great for music, and it could also rattle the whole room when you're watching action packed movies. Great performance & value.

Perfect sub for the money
Posted by: Chris from: on
This sub stays true to all of the specs listed by best buy and other websites, and if you have the right sized room, this baby can hit 15 Hz! Don't listen to the complaints, yes you have to turn the gain to about 7 or 8 to hear it, but gain levels are setup differently on different subs. This is an all around amazing sub, excelling in music and HT, even though it's hard to reach the subs limits, it let's you know it's at its limits by making a clacking sound instead of damaging itself without warning. I like this sub so much that I'll be buying a second one soon.

This replaced a pioneer 8 inch sub i had for only a week..and i really liked the pioneer 8 inch sub!!!....BUT.. after i got this sub woofer there is no going back to any kind of normal sized sub woofer ever again!!! This thing is so powerful i had a tough time placing it....i was BOOMING the whole house just playing music at some what normal levels... i have the sub woofer crossover at 100 hz and the sub woofer is now BEHIND me.....and you would swore the super low notes are coming from the front speakers!!!!!! I have crossed this sub to the highest level my receiver will allow..160 hz...and it takes it and still sounds great. This BIC is 12 inch down firing and is truly omni directional. The 430 watt peak amp is amazing. I am very very very happy with this sub woofer...this sub woofer is worth many times more than what i paid for it!!!!

A sub that delivers a punch
Posted by: Boknoz from: Alabaster, Al on
I replaced an older Sub-Woofer with this BIC. The price range was good when comparing to some of the bigger names but it would be hard to imagine that the bigger names have any better sound.
The unit is easy to adjust, and I found out after buying that it has an Auto-Shut off feature when not in use...which will help in saving power and wear and tear on the unit. It is down firing, which I wasn't sure how I would like but after playing some of my favorite movies like Twister....it will rattle as much stuff in a room as you would like.
