First Impression Posted by: from: on Bought this Black & Decker coffee maker on order, it arrived yesterday on the 23rd. There are so many bits and bobs about this coffee maker that lets you take off most of the peripherals including the reservoir for easy cleaning and refilling the water. Out of the box, the manual had great cleaning instructions that left no plastic taste in your coffee and can fill your mug up to a perfect amount using the size options. I've been using the Hamilton Beach coffee maker that this product is a direct competition to. It ended up breaking every other month or so and had to keep taking it back. However now that it isn't the only coffee maker on the market that can do ground & keurig with both single and carafe options, I'm never going back to that. The Black & Decker machine feels much better built and has easy instructions on descaling, allowing you to much more easily care for your coffee machine. The coffee comes out hot, at a perfect amount, and heats the water much faster than its competitor. Overall, I'd say this is a definite win for Black & Decker - if you're looking for a good coffee machine that can do grounds or kcup on single serving with a carafe option, this is the coffee maker for you.

Great Coffee Maker! Posted by: from: on This coffee maker does K-Cups and it also comes with an adapter that goes in place of the K-Cup adapter so you can use your own grounds for a single cup serving. Unit has a great choice of serving sizes which should work with any cup size you may have up to 20 oz. Comes with a 20oz stainless carafe for that morning commute which keeps your coffee nice and hot for over an hour plus verified!! Both the single serving K-Cups and the Pot come out really nice and hot. I use cream in my coffee and it's very important to me that the coffee be really hot so it doesn't turn luke warm after adding the cream. The only thing I would have liked to have seen in the box was a permanent coffee filter basket for the pot side. It uses the triangular shaped basket so be sure to pick one up because triangular shaped paper filters aren't that common at all stores. True it has no clock or programming features but never used it on any coffee maker I have owned so don't feel it's a reason to gig a other wise really nice well thought out coffee maker. It's the same price as those single serving makers and does a pot of coffee as well as those single servings and does it all really well. If your in the market for a new coffee maker this should fit the bill nicely without breaking the bank!!

Excellent Dual Brew Coffee Maker Posted by: from: on I really think Black and Decker got this one right over any other dual brew machine currently on the market. About a year ago the Hamilton Beach Flex Brew got my attention however, due to it's poor reviews I held off buying it for 3 reasons. #1- reports of the coffee tasting like plastic, #2- the hot plate remaining on during single brew, #3- the single brew side stopped working after a period of time. Now, fast forward to today. I saw this Black and Decker Dual Brew unit at Best Buy and thought I'd do some research to see what kind of reviews it had. Unfortunately since this is a fairly new product there aren't many reviews yet available and the available reviews lacked essential information that I was looking for so I decided to try it out for myself and I'm quite glad that I did. After unpacking the machine I brewed AT LEAST 3 full carafes of just WATER through the machine and then brewed three cycles of just WATER on the 20 oz single serve side. Then I soaked and washed all removable parts in warm soapy dish water to remove any "new" smell from them. This is essential with any new machine so your coffee doesn't taste like the packaging. Taking time to read the owners manual is also a must as it provides several helpful tips on preparing your machine and selecting the correct brew function. Now for some testing. Full 12 cup carafe....approx. brew time 10 minutes.....temperature of brewed carafe approx. 187 degrees. Single serve 8 oz cup.....approx. brew time just under 2 minutes....temperature of brewed cup approx. 174 degrees Single serve 20 oz travel mug.....approx. brew time 5 minutes....temperature of brewed mug approx. 176 degrees There are several brew size selections available however, I only conducted the above tests for brew time and temperature. There were two big questions I had about this machine. #1-The actual taste of the coffee #2- Whether the hot plate for the carafe got hot during single serve brewing. I found that it takes some experimenting to get the right amount of coffee grounds per brew. My first attempt at a full carafe yielded a slightly weak pot of coffee. I used 1 tbsp of grounds per cup of water and selected reg brew. (I have not yet tried robusto) Same was true for the single serve side using my own ground coffee in the filter basket. The second time around I added more grounds which improved the strength. I tried a kcup on the single serve side and brewed it on the 8 oz setting and it was perfect. So, each individual will have to experiment a bit to find what best suits your taste with this machine when using ground coffee. There was absolutely NO bad plastic taste at all in my coffee but again, thorough washing of the removable parts and brewing several cycles of only water is a key to any new machine. The hot plate DOES NOT get hot or turn on when brewing on the single serve side. This unit does not have any kind of programmable functions on it so if you like to set up your machine before hand and have it automatically start brewing at a specific time then this one isn't for you. I never used that function on my other machines because I like to put fresh coffee in just before brewing so that part didn't appeal to me when considering this machine. Best Buy already had a good price on this unit at $119 however I had a 20% off small appliance coupon which brought it down to just under $99. Even though Black and Decker offers a limited 2 year warranty I decided to purchase Best Buys extended 2 year replacement plan for $20 since it's much easier to take it back to the store then it is to send it to the manufacturer. All in all I'm very pleased with this coffee maker and I'm hopeful that it will function for several years to come without any issues. I think that once people discover this unit it will probably be flying off the shelves! Hope this review is helpful to others considering it. Also, this particular unit included the 20 oz travel mug as well.

good basic coffee maker Posted by: from: on I use the coffee machine daily, and I love the single cup brewer. I choose the size of the brew and go about getting ready for work. Then in a few minutes, my coffee is ready. Like mentioned in other reviews, it does take a little bit longer to brew a full carafe because the hot water reserve seems to be about 8oz, but because I knew about it before I bought the machine, it doesn't bother me. Just be aware of it if you are planning to buy this.

Happy with the purchase Posted by: from: on I've had this coffee maker for about 3 months, and I'm very happy with it. I don't recall off hand what Black and Decker recommended in the manual regarding cleaning the unit after purchase, but double it. I followed their advise and still had poor tasting coffee for a pot or two. I like how convenient it is to add water to the reservoir and that the reservoir has measurement markings that are easily seen. The k-cups work well, and if I use the carafe, it will have 8 cups ready by the time I have my breakfast made. To date, I have no complaints with the product.

Not for office use Posted by: from: on Replaced keurig with this in order to have pot option. Turns out this is not an option because those that want to use kcups can't when pot is in use or water diverts to pot ruining pot coffee. This would be a good device for shut in or person on desert island not multiple users.

Great coffee maker Posted by: from: on I bought this as a replacement for the Hamilton Beach Brew Station that I had for about 2years that stopped working. There aren't very many brands that have all three functions,I researched and read the reviews and I loved the style of the coffee maker it works great!

Thrilled in Three Worlds Posted by: from: on I was looking for a coffee maker that would do it all. I needed a pot, K-cups, and also wanted the option to brew just a cup with hand ground beans. THIS IS IT! I followed the suggestion to thoroughly clean and run water through both systems. I never experienced the "plastic flavor" many people commented on in reviews I read. I love the option to grind my own coffee and select a cup of any size (6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20) using a reusable filter that fits right in the K-cup reservoir. I can adjust the platform the cup sits on to make sure there is very little room for the coffee to splash as it falls into whichever size cup I am using. The is a large amount of bean silt that ends up on the bottom of the cup. I may experiment with not grinding the beans so much to see if that helps but make sure it doesn't effect the flavor. The only other thing that would make it better would be a reusable filter for the coffee pot.

Good for a 8-10 person office Posted by: from: on This coffee pot is excellent for home use and works good for an office with a small number of people. We have 8-10 people in the office and it is good because some like flavored coffee and they can use the individual cup area and some like more and quicker so they use the large coffee pot.

Defective Posted by: from: on Bought this and single serve did not brew. Exchanged for a new one which had the same issue. Maybe black and decker should stick to power tools. Did not buy a third.
