Installation was a pain, but it was worth it
Posted by: reviewedbybob from: Indiana on
Before purchasing this dishwasher I read many reviews on various makes and models. The main reason I decided to purchase this make and model was the flush against the counter design. The space for my dishwasher is a bit more shallow then the standard 24" depth. A secondary reason was the reputation / reviews of Bosch dishwashers as being above average in reliability.
Other than the hassle of the installation I'm very pleased with this dishwasher. It does an excellent job of cleaning, and as an extra benefit is very efficient. It is also very sleek, compact, without sacrificing interior space. The top rack can be adjusted up and down. This allows me to wash large plates and trays in this dishwasher that wouldn't fit in my last one.
Several reviewers commented about this dishwasher's cons. At the bottom of this review I wrote how most of those cons could be corrected by reading the instructions. First things first, installation was a pain!
Installation was a pain for two reasons.
1) Reason one, this dishwasher , and likely other Bosch dishwashers, requires the use of a supplied proprietary electrical junction box. You can't simply re-land the wires from your last dishwasher installation onto the Bosch with a coupe of wire nuts.
The electrical supply line must be located, or re-routed, to a nearby area outside of the space / area designated for the dishwasher. There will not be room in the dishwasher area for the supplied electrical box. Once a suitable location is found, you must connect the electrical supply line to the box. For whatever reason the box doesn't include the standard romex / wire strain relief junction box connectors.
After the the electrical connections are made the box must be mounted very close to the dishwasher, but not inside where it goes. The reason is the supplied junction box has a hard-wired cord that gets routed and plugs into the rear of the dishwasher. The cord is maybe around 5 feet in length 2-3 feet shorter than what it should be. The Bosch proprietary electrical box and short cord added to the length and inconvenience of the installation.
2) The second thing that made installation a pain was the short, proprietary hot water line Bosch provided. The hot water line was maybe 5 feet in length. I needed a 6 foot line and bought one prior to installation. I then discovered that Bosch water lines have a non-standard connector that fits on the machine side. The other end is the standard size / style used by every other dishwasher.
The water discharge hose is also non-standard, where it connects to the machine. You can't simply disconnect the discharge and add a longer one that you purchased at the store. If you need a longer discharge hose you have to buy a Bosch hose extender. If you need a longer hot water hose to must buy a Bosch brand extended length hose. An off the rack one won't work.
I've read numerous user reviews about this washer. The vast majority of the complaints and cons in these reviews were due to the reviewer not reading the directions. A number of the complaints were that the dishes weren't coming out dry. This can be corrected by choosing the EXTRA SHINE or SANITIZE options in conjunction with the AUTO, HEAVY, or MEDIUM wash settings (Instructions Page 13). These selections increase the drying time.
This dishwasher also recommends the use of a rinse agent, like Jet-Dry, to aid in the drying process. If not used I'm sure the drying won't be as good as it's supposed to be.
Another reviewer wrote that the wash cycle takes way too long (2 hours). This time can be reduced by 25% by selecting the SPEED PERFECT setting in conjunction with the AUTO, HEAVY, or MEDIUM wash settings (Instructions Page 13). The AUTO setting with SPEED PERFECT selected cuts the cycle time down to 75-90 minutes. One reviewer complained about the annoying beeps after the completion of the wash. These end of cycle beeps can be turned off (Instructions Page 16).
Bosch could've done a better job in making the use of above options / selections more intuitive. Maybe buttons that read "Beeper off”, "Quick Wash, or "More dry" rather than going into a menu or combining the use of buttons. The hot water, drain, and electrical connections all need to be 2-3 feet longer to ease installation. But in the end this dishwasher does an excellent job of cleaning dishes. It’s sleek on the outside, voluminous on the inside, and also very quiet. Based on Consumer's Report customer surveys, Bosch is also the most reliable brand of dishwasher made.
Hopefully this review helped if you were considering this model

Disappointed - Cracking Handle - poorly made
Posted by: mrsshotgun from: on
I took a long time and did a lot research before ordering the BOSCH dishwasher to replace my stone age model which was in our home when we purchased it 5 years ago. At first I was thrilled with this dishwasher since it was fabulous looking, quiet, did a great job and dried the dishes very well which I noticed several people said was an issue. I kept raving about it and how I was glad I spent the extra money to buy the Bosch. After about a month I noticed that the handle (which is plastic) had started to crack. I called Best Buy Geek Squad and they were happy to replace the unit since it was less than a month old. I was reluctant to replace the unit because I was just so happy with everything else about it. But, Best Buy was fantastic and replaced the entire unit which took about three weeks since it was special order. After delivery of the new unit in February I was a little disappointed in the install since the first one did not protrude out from the counter/cabinets at all and this one did. But, I decided not to worry about it. It didn't dry as well as the first one and left a lingering smell that I thought would go away once it ran a few times. So, fast forward three weeks and I see cracks in the handle of the new unit. I call the Geek Squad who, again were wonderful offering to replace the unit but suggested I think about getting another model. So while I am researching another brand or model the handle has continued to crumble with pieces cracking off daily. I really don't know how else to rate this unit since I loved the first one and wished that they had just come to replace the handle although I'm not sure that wouldn't have continued to be a problem. The smell has gotten worse and I do see water pooling in the bottom of the unit and massive condensation on the walls no matter how long I let it dry for. So, would I recommend this to a friend? I don't think so. More importantly, anyone who purchased this unit should carefully look at the handle to determine if the plastic is splitting in the faceplate where the handle is screwed into the unit.

Bosch dishwasher (open box)
Posted by: shadow22 from: on
what a great deal! My dishwasher broke over the holiday. So, knowing I needed a dishwasher anyway and didn't want to pay the $800 that a high end dishwasher would cost. I didn't even look at the series 300. Much to my surprise there was an open box Bosch that was $200 less than the cheaper models. Free delivery. installed myself and had to call customer service because I didn't think it worked. Guess what? I couldn't even hear the dishwasher running it was so quiet. Dishes are much cleaner than I have ever experienced. Great Deal!

Should have a shorted wash cycle option

Very happy with the dishwasher, quiet, cleans well. Some dishes come out a little wet, but the overall performance has been good.

Good dishwasher for the price. It replaced a LG that broke after 5 years. The hidden control panel is good for little kids because they cannot reach and ply with the buttons, however you cannot tell how much time is left if this thing matters to you. I have only used the auto cycle and the dishes are coming out clean. Not sure about the heated drying though because the dishes are pretty wet. It is VERY quiet. Overall, I am happy with it.

Super quiet, great-looking, inexpensive to run
Posted by: Embo from: on
I LOVE how this dishwasher is so sleek and low-key; even the inside is sleek! It is almost eerily quiet when running -- but there's that cool little circle of red light on the floor to tell you it's on. I've mostly just run the Auto cycle, and figured out that also choosing "Extra Shine" ran the heating element longer and got all but my storage plastic perfectly dry. I also love being able to delay-start so that everything runs and dries while I'm at work, etc.
The interior is very spacious; no wasted space, either. My one complaint is the way the racks are organized and set so close to each other. If you are washing 8 complete place settings all the time, probably fine. But I always need to wash a motley assortment of bowls, plates, containers, etc. -- and that can be a challenge to load well or properly. But other than that, this is a perfect dishwasher.

Great dishwasher at a good price, silent
Posted by: BoschIsSilent from: on
It is really silent, you can watch TV, have a conversation in the same room while it is running! Vessels come out clean. Easy to remove the drain and clean. No smell or buildup yet, but its been under a month.
We replaced a 15 yr old GE potscrubber and couldnt be happier!
Only downside is space seems less than our old GE, but that might be me still figuring out how to load it best.

Dishes clean and all dry except my plastic storage items, but that was an issue with my previous washers. It is incredibly quiet - you almost can't tell it is on.
