OK…so it's an $850 dishwasher, not the $300 "builder's special" that we've all grown accustomed to. Well as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for". I was tired of our old dishwasher…never cleaned well and then left the dirty dishes wet. To be honest…not what I'm looking for in a dishwasher. So I started researching and several weeks later, I decided on this unit. It had a great name, great features, and it was QUIET. My wife wanted QUIET. So QUIET she got! I can still hear her, but not the dishwasher. In short, the "Auto", "Sanitize" settings work great. Dishes are spotless and although there are a few reviews claiming that it doesn't dry very well, I can tell you that if the dishwasher is overloaded, it will not. That's not the fault of the dishwasher, you have to have a little room for heat to circulate in order to have dry dishes. And when you afford it that little bit of room, it dries just fine. Big pots and pans? No worries. I can't believe how things fit so well in this thing, when I had to hand-wash all my large items previously. There's TONS of room. Oh, and in case you are on the fence about pre-rinsing your dishes…don't do it. It's a waste of time and this dishwasher will take your nastiest stuff and make it look like new. Would I recommend this to a friend? Not only would I…I would do free commercials for Bosch. It's the best damned dishwasher I ever owned, and sometimes, when no one is looking, I go into the kitchen, give it a little pat, and tell it I love it. Your research is done! Buy this!!!

I researched dishwashers a lot and settled on this unit based on both high publication reviews and consumer’s reviews. Often, consumer reports or other internet sites review a dishwasher and give it a stellar rating, but when you check the consumer reviews at best buy, Amazon, etc. they are not as good from day-to-day users. This dishwasher had pretty high reviews from companies and consumers alike so I bought it from Best Buy versus Amazon due to local delivery and haul away of old dishwasher.
Bosch also recommend that you use the Finish line of detergents. I researched those at Amazon and the reviews of this detergent line is impressive so I went all in and ordered a good supply of Finish Quantum Tablets (fresh scent), Finish Jet Dry Dishwasher Rinse Agent Liquid (original), and Finish Dishwasher Cleaner (3 pack). Have run probably close to 30 loads of dishes now attacking the dishwasher with some pretty bad dishes included dirty frying pans, baking dishes, dried out food residue on plates. We do actually scrape the food off into the sink and then put it into the dishwasher and that's about it. I will pour/wipe bacon grease out of a pan into the trash and then put it right in. No other effort to get dishes ready which was a prerequisite for a new dishwasher.
Cleaning - WOW and double WOW!! My dishes are the cleanest I've ever had. The combo of this dishwasher and recommended soaps is outstanding. In +30 loads we've done so far when dishes are properly stacked I can't think of a single time where we had a dirty dish or glass. Dishes come out looking as good as can be. I had an old stainless steel Starbucks mug I could never get clean by hand and I put that in there and it came out looking like new stainless steel. I'm really confident and satisfied with the cleaning power of this machine. Even when not properly stacked by the kids dishes seem to come out clean.
We've only used the "Auto" mode with "Sanitize" option for each load. Dishes come out 95% dry and hot. Yes, this unit definitely dries if you have the "Sanitize" option on.
Laser light is nice to have so I know it started. Machine is indeed quiet and I love it, but the decibel level changes through the cycle. There are more pumps going at the beginning of the cycle and the machine gives a bit louder low rumbling sound as it kicks in early in the cycle which disappears into more normal operation sounds which are harder to hear. That rumble sound made me raise an eyebrow early on as I couldn't tell if it was something going on in the distance outside or something in the house. Yes, very quiet although not as dead quiet as some reviewers say.
We got the black unit and it looks nice. Would have liked stainless but our other appliances are black at the moment.
Unit is easy to access, trays move easily, and overall easy to use. Soaps easy to insert and it seems we have to refill the Jet dry finisher rinse aid every 3 to 5 loads to get it back to the max fill mark. Not sure it is totally empty of jet dry when we refill it.
I bought the unit in part for the silverware tray at the top of the dishwasher which was a really neat feature. When we use it this tray it is very functional and very easy to insert silverware. I had anticipated using this continuously. BUT, my family also uses a lot of tall cups and tall water bottles that have to be cleaned as we are pretty active. With the overhead tray inserted in the machine nothing more than a regular sized glass will fit and you have to angle the cups or put them on the bottom rack to wash. This was frustrating and my family was complaining a lot about this. So we had to remove the top silverware tray and start using the bottom rack silverware holder. I am a bit disappointed about this although I realize the design tradeoff and can't really fault the designer because there is only so much space you can use for a 24" wide dishwasher.
The rack in the bottom of the dishwasher has relatively tightly spaced plate spines (if that is what you call them) especially on the right front. This dishwasher is designed to clean a lot of dishes at once and by that I mean plates or thin items. When you start trying to stack normal day-to-day items like plates AND pans AND larger bowls AND larger cooking trays it really becomes a puzzle because the tighter spines don't allow easy insertion or stacking of dishes. Some of the spines can be folded down and there is a bit of flexibility, but nothing like our older dishwasher. Plus, now that we have to use the bottom rack silverware holder now we have lost some space. I would have traded a wider spine layout or more flexibility with larger dishes over being able to wash a million plates at once.
SO...to sum it up stacking has become a bit more frustrating than our last dishwasher and not as strait forward. We are getting better at this, but our last dishwasher was much easier to just stack and go due to a different spine configuration. This is the biggest complaint right now by the whole family.
Smell - other reviewers are absolutely right that this dishwasher has a bad/funky mechanical smell starting out and it has attenuated, but is still lingering 30 loads in. Never had a bad smell from our last dishwasher ever. We tried putting some orange scent in to mask the scent using those garbage disposal balls that are meant to make the disposal/sink smell better. Bad idea in that it masked the smell a bit giving an industrial "orange" smell, but also made my stainless steel mug smell like industrial orange and I had to rewash.
If you are replacing an older dishwasher this unit may go back farther toward the wall than your last unit. This may matter because the cut-out hole in the cabinet between your dishwasher location and the adjacent sink cabinet may be too far forward. I had to cut another 3" hole closer almost touching the back wall panel so the tubes could immediately insert from the back of the dishwasher into the adjacent sink cabinet versus getting wedged on the side of the dishwasher and not allowing me to center the dishwasher properly.
Also, if you are installing be prepared to know something about electricity and have some 1/2 to 3/4" wood screws ready to go to connect the electric junction box under the since. The screws are needed to mount the junction box on a cabinet wall of your sink cabinet. NOTE...I believe either the junction box was mis-wired for positive/neutral/ground as compared to the power cord that I bought or the power cord layout was using a non-standard order. Keep in mind it is recommended that you replace the power cord and I do recommend getting a new power cord installation kit with your dishwasher and best buy had a nice kit. The power cord requires the normal positive, neutral, and ground cables be inserted into the correct cable seats in the junction box of course. But don’t assume that the order of the 3 cables on the new power cord you bought identically align with the three power cord seats in the junction box as seems natural. I think I had to crisscross positive and neutral and because I did that I was correct in getting the power right the first time. Not happy that this happened, but I have enough experience with some home remodeling to have caught this and realize that others might miss this.
Would I buy again? Probably unless I found another dishwasher with a better layout for my family. So really, my only complaint is ease of use for MY FAMILY which tends to use a lot of tall items. This dishwasher has OUTSTANDING cleaning power is what you really want and I love this machine for it and why I would absolutely consider buying again. 4 of 5 stars.

ultra quiet and flexible

This machine is wonderful. Love the third rack for cutlery and spatulas, makes more room in the glasses rack. The second rack is very versatile as it has three possible postions. Tines flip up and down, clips hold in lightweight plastics and flip down shelves add extra space. Bottom rack is spacious and flexable. Use the upper rack for cutlery and you can remove the cutlery basket from the bottom rack and have large spaces for bulky items. A removable clip allows for tall items to be held upright throughout the wash cycle.
As great as the flexibility is, it can't compare to how quiet is this dishwasher. I have an open plan home and all we hear is a slight gurgling sound as the water empties. Also this machine cleans like a dream. Watch the online videos on the Bosch website that detail the correct ways to load the dishwasher and everything will be spotless. I've been amazed by what this model will remove.
My only complaint is the soap tablet dispenser. If you dont put the tablet in exactly right the hatch will not open properly during the wash cycle, consequently no soap will be applied. Also the hatch is rather difficult to slide closed and get to latch into the closed position. A minor complaint in the scheme of things. Overall this machine is worth every penny.

We purchased the Bosch - 800 Series Model # SHX68T55UC.
We spent 2+ months reviewing and seeing the actual products. This was the Bosch we got from Best Buy. There is nothing we can say that is negative about this dish washer. The biggest complaint was always about the drying part. We find that it drys everything that we put into it. Since this is a condensation drying method, the key is how to load the washer. Any item that has a large indentation on the back side like some cups need to have a slight tilt when placed in the washer. We have some cups that on the under bottom have almost an inch in space that would hold water if not tilted. The bigger the space the more the tilt. On some of these your finger might feel a little damp if you open the washer right after it stops. Let it sit for 30 min or more and all is fine. Thanks Bosch. Like the Red Light Too! So quite you need this light. p.s. Best Buy and their delivery and set up people were some of the best people we have ever dealt with and we are 71 years old.

The sound of silence
Posted by: dishwasherheavan from: Mansfield, Texas on
We purchased this dishwasher after much online and in store research. I finally was able to get a new dishwasher to replace the 747 plane engine that I had posing as a dishwasher. This Bosh is so quiet 44DB. The only way you know it is on is the red beam on the floor. We can watch tv and do the dishes. Love the third wrack. It is so handy for spatulas, knives, etc...all the racks adjust easily. The half load feature is nice for me and my husband (no kids) because many times it takes a day or two to fill the dishwasher. This way we can wash half loads when needed. Some of the features do take a long time. Example is sanitation, but the model is so quiet it is not bothersome. Very clean dishes. I have not had any food residue issues.
The only little matter that came up was apparently they do not stock this model in Texas. I had to wait an extra 3 weeks to get one delivered to the DFW area. I have never had to wait so long from any order from Best Buy before. The delivery went well and we are very a happy with it.

Best dishwasher I've used/owned. Unbelievably quiet. So much space and the 3rd tray for silverware is amazing. We love this dishwasher.

Great new feature 3rd rack!
Posted by: MasterG from: Dallas TX on
I have had a older Bosch and this one is even better. Cleaning options are great 30 min express for a fast wash, and the heavy mode cleans the best of any dishwasher I have owned. The 3rd rack really is as good as they advertise. It allows an incredible amount of silverware to washed and still have all the space on the lower two racks of the older models. The top rack does cleans efficiently from the top down and does not have a direct sprayer beneath, so its not good for kids cup lids with heavy gunk. But it cleans silverware and other fantastic. Great for pacifiers, and those small plastic pieces inserts as well. Until now I never had a good option to clean and not have them falling down into the dishwasher. Also it has and adjustable rack with three positions without having to remove the rack! Great feature as well. Very quiet, only audible if there is no other noise and barely at that. Be aware that cycles with sanitize take a couple of hours. However there is a 30 minute express mode so for me that covers all the basis. Again I don't know why it does not have clean light or sanitize light on this model. That feature is on others and I immediately missed that. But that really is a minor thing. It shines a light on the floor while its running since its hard to hear it running. This is the greatest dishwasher ever, always have had good experience with Bosch but the 3rd rack takes this over the top. Also Best Buy delivery was on time and did a good job.

Best dishwasher bar none
Posted by: socalcook13 from: san diego, ca on
First time I've written a review but here goes. I have been a cook for 35 years and have gone through many dishwashers ranging from about $200. to this model. I thought I hit the top of the line when I purchased a GE profile series. When we bought a new home it had an old Bosch in it. I never heard of it but liked the way it cleaned my dishes. It was a 1987 model. Well it finally died due to rust from the racks clogging the system. I knew I wanted a Bosch, bought this one and it is so quiet you can stand right next to it and not hear a thing (great for parties). It even has a little red light on the floor just to tell you its on so you don't try and pull the door open! My dishes, pots, stainless all come out clean and looking brand new! Not a water spot to be seen. I am confident this dishwasher will last me another 20 years.

This Dishwasher does a great job!

I read many reviews on dishwashers before selecting a model. I was replacing a Viking model. The Viking worked well but the the cycles were 2+ hours long and it has just burned up the second sensor board. The first board was covered under warranty, the second was not. At this point I was not willing to pay over $500 to repair an aging model. So first I wanted to make sure that I was selecting a model that had a shorter wash cycle. During my research I learned that many of the new models not only had long cycles but also featured energy saver drying as the only drying mechanism. This apparently often left dishes wet. This model stated that it had an "Intense drying" cycle. I must admit that my first load of dishes came out clean but wet. I called the mfg only to find out that they are unable to ship the dishwasher with the intense drying cycle activated. The phone support staff informed me of the protocol to reprogram the machine to "intense drying." I am now very pleased. I can run a complete express cycle with dry dishes in just under an hour. NICE! My only complaint is that the dishwasher feels very cheap. The door is flimsy. I am afraid that daily use will bend the hinges and wear out years before the washing mechanism reaches it life expectancy.

This is a great dishwasher. Love it! I normally have to bleach the filter insert for my iced tea maker to get the tea stains from it but threw it in untreated just to see how the dishwasher would perform, I was shocked to see it sparkling white and like new. Have removed the traditional silverware container and use the third drawer exclusively. This opened up more room on the bottom drawer for more pots and pans. I haven't seen my dishes shine like this since they were new.
