Definitely Bose!5 Posted by: from: on The sound quality is great. Deep bass, high highs, crisp mids.. Off 2 speakers and the subwoofer I get much more sound clarity than my old speakers. Definitely worth buying!

Super disappointing2 Posted by: from: on I used to have the Bose Companion 3, and I expected these to be as good as (or better than) the Companion 3, which I DID like a lot. Here are the pros: easy setup, solid build (doesn't look or feel cheap). I LIVE on my computer, and I listen to music 24/7, so I was willing to spend more to have the clarity & hi-def features I expect in this price range. Regarding setup... yes, it is very easy...HOWEVER...once set up, you are unable to tweak the audio output/sound at ALL. There is NO COMPATIBILITY with pc or audio outside of Bose default settings. (in other words, you can't alter pitch, environment, equalization, NADA) I was eager to blast the new Bose, & I found out immediately that the louder the speakers (which weren't notably loud, IMO...not bad volume output per se, but not exceptional at all) the more "empty" and/or tinny the music sounded. Yes, there is a subwoofer, and I did test that at full capacity to see if that would offset the OVER treble sounding desk speakers, but...not at all. I have awesome OTE headphones, so I plugged those into the control pad (since the speakers are not bluetooth compatible, the control pod is handy...so I guess that should be listed as a pro?) and the music sounded MUCH better. I just couldn't justify keeping these speakers to ONLY be able to use them with headphones on at all times. I am back to my old Harmon Kardon's...and I must say that after having the Companion 5 for a week or two, I have a new appreciation for what I was looking to upgrade.

Just what you would expect from a Bose®...5 Posted by: from: on ...Excellence in quality sound and performance. Once you get past the price point, take it home and crank up the volume of your favorite music, you will know you made the right choice. It is amazing how you can get the surround sound effect from a three speaker system. Low volume quality is just as clear and sharp as mid and loud for when you want soft background sound.

Disappointed.1 Posted by: from: on Before I purchased these speakers I went online and read various reviews. There were some that praised this system as being one of the best out there and there were other that dismissed it completely as being one of the worst. I tried these speakers in the store and they did not sound bad at all with the pre-set audio tracks they played. Once I took these home it was a completely different story. These speakers are not bad, they're not good, they're just OK. I played several different tracks and in some of them I could barely hear the vocals and in others the instruments that I should be hearing were non-existent. I will say that these speakers have decent bass and they can get very loud with little to no distortion. I tested these against the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 and the Klipsch far out perform the Bose Companion 5 at less than half the price. Unfortunately because of the poor performance and steep price I cannot recommend these to anyone when there are much better options for several hundred dollars less.

Excellent Gaming Sound System for PCs/Laptops5 Posted by: from: on My gaming sessions last hours. I play on a high end Alienware 17 Laptop. I have been using Sennheiser headphones which are excellent, but I reached the point where I just got tired with the drill of wearing them, and the games I usually play (Skyrim, Witcher, etc.) are not multi-player so I rarely need a mic. I did my on line research and visited the Best Buy staff and chatted with a solid staffer. After watching the in store demo, and doing more on line research, I liked the Bose Companion 5 setup as it offered a separate base. The space needs are perfect. The two speakers on the desk take up little room, and the base fits fine under my desk. On/off and volume are controlled via a super neat small control that you can tuck away anywhere on your desk. Although my headphones have superb sound, the Bose system rocks. I never knew what I was missing. The wonderful base really adds to the game play. Assembly was easy. The components are surprisingly heavy and they feel that they will last forever. I also play music of all types on the laptop, and the Bose System handles music beautifully. Although not cheap, I am very satisfied with the quality and performance. I think this is an example of getting what you pay for.

Great Speakers, without taking a lot of space.5 Posted by: from: on I want to start off by saying Bose is Bose, and Bose quality is always good. Now with that being said, these speakers are exactly what I expected and some. For something of that size, they have great clear audio without having to pump up the volume. I use to have a 5.1 surround sound and these sound just as amazing. Worth the price.
