Comfortable headphones to use for phone calls though sound quality is not nearly as good as the P5 Series 2 or P7

Best Headphones for Travel / Work
Posted by: MusicianandAudioTech from: Buffalo on
I'm going to make this quick. If you are looking for headphones that you intend to use at work, while commuting, etc. that also offer amazing natural sound, get these. I'm not going to bash any other brands of headphones here, but I will say that for the purpose of having warm, comfortable sound reproduction on-the-go, these are perfect. The design is incredible. The acoustic cloth really let's the sound pas through untainted, while the sheer lack of weight makes you wonder whether or not you're wearing anything. The case is hard, so it'll protect the cans if you throw em around in a bad or your car and, while the cable is thin, it has a lot of integrity and strength.
I bought these for the purpose of having high-quality headphones that produce perfect sound on-the-go and at work -- they truly deliver.

The P3 is a nice alternative to the P5. It does not buffer out external noise as well but it is more comfortable and sounds nearly as good. I am not an audiophile but I was happy with the rich and full range of sound coming from these cans. They are very comfortable to wear, even with eyeglasses. I do have a few complaints. The biggest one is the remote which I am dinging comfort for. It is difficult to tell by touch where to press b/c it is cylindrical AND even when you get a hold of the button, it is very difficult to click b/c the other side is round so trying to double and triple click is painful and inconsistent. Another is the carrying case. It is a cheap clamshell case like those that come with eyeglasses. The inner felt lining will eventually crack at the hinge over time. And lastly, for this price range, I would expect one combined cord instead of a cord coming out each side but perhaps this allows them to fold so I would prefer the latter if I had to choose.

Best Sounding Headphones
Posted by: FL17 from: Naples, FL on
These are by far the best sounding headphones. Super crisp sound!! These block out tons of ambient sounds. The Highs and the Lows are very clear providing great sound. Great for any music, movies and anything else.
You don't have the bass heaviness of the Beats. Don't get me wrong there is plenty of bass but it doesn't distort the sound like the Beats.
Zero White Noise- which is what the Bose uses in their noise canceling headphones, this is why you can listen to these longer without any headaches.
Only thing I did not rate as excellent was the comfort. I have a larger head and in the beginning they squeezed tight on my head. it took wearing them in to stretch them out a little. Now they fit perfect and the ear pads are super comfortable.
A must buy!

WOW - just WOW!!!

I had originally bought the Bose AE2 head phones and just could not get over the fact that my much cheaper Sennhesier headphones sounded as good or even better than the AE2. So I took them back and went into the Magnolia section and listened to the B&W P3 and P5s. While I liked the P5s I just felt they were not $100 better in sound. The only real thing I found to dislike on the P3 is the midrange is a little pronounced. Other than that I like the size, weight and cost of the P3s over the P5s.
After listening to the P3s for a few hours I am hearing them opening up more and the midrange isn’t as pronounced. Plus the music choice is a key factor. I am looking forward to getting a NuForce Icon uDAC-2 and some really good music to hear how much these open up.
I honestly cannot see how someone could be disappointed with these head phones. I am amazed out how much sound these isolate for not being isolating headphones.

Great headphones for the price
Posted by: kuddus87 from: Minneapolis, MN on
I have been comparing the P5 and P3. The Magnolia guys actually let me try both for a week as they had an open box. The P5 which has leather materials is luxurious but a little heavier and hot on the ears after a while. The P5 has just as amazing sound.
For me, it came down to P3's portability. They can be easily folded into a hard case. They are lighter and for me the sound was brighter as was the base. The P5 has a muted bass which could be from the leather as compared to cloth on P3.
Both great headphones given they are Bowers and Wilkins and you can't really go wrong with their products.
For $200 for a B&W means it leaves the competition in the dust. Beats, Bose, Sennheiser got nothing on these.

I bought this open box for 1/2 price, and could not be happier. With the recent fad in non-earbud headphones, I would say these are phenomenal compared to the competition. They have a refined sound that far surpasses the most trendy and overpriced headphones that everyone is so fond of (Beats), but the quality of the sound will depend on where you place these. That doesn't sound too difficult, but given that they do not completely swallow your ears, there can be a good deal of variance in positioning and therefore the sound. I compared these to the P5's, and actually preferred the overall sound of these for all types of music. I thought they were a more "complete" (generally-applicable) headphone than the more expensive ones. For what these are, they are tough to beat for the price. The cords look relatively cheap and could be more durable and better shielded. I did buy a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M50s, which I think are a bit better (after break-in), but they are a completely different and more cumbersome headphone.

Best headphones I've owned thus far.
Posted by: AlanY from: Columbia, SC on
I got an opportunity to try these out before buying at an Apple Store. The quality dwarfed everything I have heard previous to them. I had to order them because this is an item that is only found at Best Buy Magnolia stores.
The sound is amazing. Highs are crisp and clear, mids are balanced, and lows are surprisingly well defined. The only headphones I have heard that sound any better are the Bowers and Wilkins P5s.
Comfort was the only issue I have had with these. For my ears, these become uncomfortable after 3-3.5h. I don't see this being an issue for most people though; I have quite a number of piercings that the ear cups placed pressure on.
Some might say that these are not within a reasonable price range, but (for the most part) you get what you pay for.

Background: I already own a 5.1 channel sound system from B&W that I used at home and I was looking for a headphone that would work with both MP3 music and Apple TV movies. The criteria for my selection was equal balance between the treble, mid-tones and bass without one overpowering the other.
I have tried different brands and all of them were either too bassy (Beats) or too much emphasis on trebles (Bose). So when I found out B&W made headphones, I thought why not?
Boy was I blown away by the sounds that came from these headphones. Neither sounds were overpowering and I could hear clearly the song lyrics but also enough bass to make my heart thump.
Caveats: These headphones do not come cheap and the fit is not perfect. But after several adjustments, I could come to a compromise.
Is it perfect? Close. Is it worth the money? My last headphones was 5 years old. So the $$$ depreciates over the next 5 years.
As with all things audio, what works for me may not work for someone else. I always recommend listening to find the right match.

Great looks, performance and function in 1
Posted by: WarrenPeece from: New York, NY on
B+W makes some of the best speakers available and they managed to put the performance in a compact package. The sound is fantastic for the price. Also the design and engineering is impeccable. A great bonus is the remote and mic for your IPhone or iPod. The one drawback is the tightness of the band hurts my big ears after hours on the plane.
