Good value for the price

Great price for a laser printer. The paper feeder runs smoothly. The directions for setting up wireless could have been better, but I figured it out. No where in the book does it tell you to hit the WiFi button on the printer, but that's what you need to do before you follow the rest of the directions. The copier "lid" is a bit stiff and jerky when you open and close it. It is supposed to do 2-sided copies but I think that's going to take a visit to the website to figure out. The commands on the machine are not intuitive and the book is no help.

Great Product, Great Price

If you're looking for a unit that will meet your needs for small office/home use, look no further. This all-in-one has everything you need for black and white printing with the added benefit of using toner cartridges (that don't dry up like ink does when not used). The wifi worked perfectly with all my Apple iPhone/Ipad and Microsoft devices. It scans in color and has an easy to use fax interface. I've used all the features flawlessly.
Easy setup and has advanced GUI for those whom need added capabilities. It comes with a "starter" toner cartridge (having less toner than a replacement does), but here's a little advice. Don't get caught in the trap of buying replacement cartridges when all you need to do is add toner to the one you have, starter or standard. To replace toner in a starter cartridge requires adding the missing plastic gear that the standard cartridge has, and after filling with toner, becomes exactly like a standard cartridge that can be filled over and over again. The cost? Under fifteen dollars for the one time gear and toner. Once the gear is installed (and it's easy), you only have to add toner instead of replacing the entire cartridge. That's a huge savings. There are plenty of "how to's" on the web for most toner cartridges, just do a little research.
Hope this review helps, and BTW, check out refilling for other types of cartridges you may have, it's worth the effort.

Perfect for home and small buisness

My wife recently needed a new printer to replace a very well used ink jet as her business had increased. I explored many options and continued to come back to this printer. The rated volume and that it could do legal media fit what she needed. Setup was a breeze including fax over VOIP. After only a few weeks of usage, she has consumed the first cartridge, and yet the quality has stayed consistent and no problems with any functions. Cant go wrong with this printer.

Comes with Free OCR software
Posted by: StanOuyaFan from: on
Gave it five stars because of the software it comes with. When scanning something to work into word or text editor programs the software works great for a free includes program. Other printers like Epson say they can do OCR but make you buy a third party program for over a 100 to do it.
If scanning documents to editable text is important to you I recommend any of the all in one Brother printers. This Is my Third Brother Printer. All of them are still working after thousands of pages of printing.
Set up was easy, but still needed a little help from Brother. They are very friendly and offer help at no charge for life. I did not plug the right phone line in from my phone splitter during set up. I saw this when set up was done and fixed connection. Thought everything was great, but some fax machines could not receive my fax. Weird so I called brother. They told me to restart printed with no changes need to be made. I was doubtful, but did it and all is now fine.
Apple AirPrint works great
Toner has a good price to page cost, if you want really cheap printing generics work well in this printer
Thought my 83 year old Dad and 73 how to use the software. Has a nice way to make custom scans. Nice when you need to have different scans for different size papers like letter, legal. A4 and so on.
I chose this brother because I need laser, and a flatbed and auto document feeder.
The only downside is that you cannot add a second paper tray for a second size paper. Normally an option on more expensive printers. You can work around this by the front paper feeder slot, make sure you open door on back and flip tabs if needed.
Summery: This and all Brothers are a no brainer. You get a lot of printer for your dollar.

prints well when there is a connection
Posted by: happy from: on
Sad to give this rating, becuase I love Brother printers - my last one was a Brother, but did not have wireless connection and I just loved it. I thought the L2700DW was perfect since I have both a pc and apple laptops. However it has been one headache after another to get and then keep connection between the printer and computers. Even with the USB cord, it sometimes gives an error message, and often goes offline for seemingly no reason at all. Forget about wireless connection. I got it to work once with my macair, but next time I tried to use it, the connection was not there, and I could not get it to work wirelessly at all - which was the reason for getting this model of printer in the first place. Had the same problem with my Acer laptop. I am currently without a working printer because the laptop does not have the connection even with the USB cord. Frustration plus for over a month of trying and patience.

Very happy with my choice
Posted by: Rose from: on
This is my second Brother all-in-one laser printer. It works great as specified except the OCR function. My laptop doesn't have a cd/dvd drive so I downloaded everything I needed on Brother's website and the setup was easy. But when I tried to install Paperport, which is required for OCR to work, using the Paperport Install Tool downloaded from Brother's website, I got the erro message "No device found". I contacted Brother's customer service and did what they told me to do but the problem has not been solved. Otherwise, I would have given it a five-star rating. I'm going to contact them one more time. Hopefully, I will figure it out.

Brother makes good printers

Purchased this for some computer clients and they have been pretty happy with it but it has lost network connection a couple times. Not sure if it's the printer or a network issue. I've had good luck with Brother printers.
