The Wedding Lens Extraordinaire Posted by: from: NY, NY on I shoot professionally and many times in the past I used prime lenses on 2 bodies because primes are sharper and faster than even 2.8 zooms. I got tired of that though and I finally made the leap of $$$$$ to get the 24-70mm f/2.8, purchased at Best Buy in Yonkers, NY. Yes, I have seen the light!!! If you're shooting professionally, especially weddings, this lens is a MUST. Weddings are chaotic and the flexibility of this zoom range will save your life. The 24-70 allows you to shoot wide open with flash and keep the ISO down between 400-800 for rich looking sharp photos. If you're a casual shooter, this might be too much lens.....price and weight wise....but if you're branching out to professional shooting, don't show up to an event with anything less than the 24-70mm f/2.8. Now I just gotta start saving up again to buy the 70-200mm f/2.8!!!

New standard work horse Posted by: from: on I really didn't want to buy this lens because I had the range already covered and was able to buy some length on a 100-400, When talking to other photographers about everything from a great portrait lens to candid hobby photography, EVERYONE said this was the glass for the job. I ended up selling my 100-400 and the kit lens18-135 that came with the 80D and purchased it. Wow the larger aperture really has made a huge difference, it makes everything looks SOOOOOO clean and professional. I took a couple random shots of my wife before a date and WOW it looks like a model ad. Purchased additional protection and keeping this forever.

Best Lens Ever Posted by: from: montgomery, il on This lens is way better than my 24-105 f4 I sold. It meets and exceeds my expectations. I always wanted the 24-70 mk I but hated the weight and reverse zoom. now I have a lens that looks like a normal zoom but is extremely light and sharp. Yeah there is not IS but if you hold your camera steady I have not had an issue. The AF is so fast on my Canon 5d Mark III. This is now my favorite travel lens. Goes great with the 70-200 2.8 II. Really this setup covers everything. Definetly buy it you will be glad you did.

Must have pro lens Posted by: from: New York on As a photojournalist this is my go-to lens and the one I use for more than 50 percent of my images. The lens makes for great images and works well across the entire focal range, which encompasses virtually all of my day-to-day images. This lens allows me to make great images without a flash, even in low light, while reducing my reliance on pricy prime lenses. While I agree with others that it has significant improvements over it's predecessor, I question whether they are sufficient to justify the price tag. The lack of image stabilization is a minor point, while it might have been nice, it also would have made the lens heavier and most pros don't rely on IS, particularly at such close range. If IS is important to you, I would recommend a f4 lens that has IS (either 24-70 f4 L or 24-105 f4 L). I also point out that if you're shopping for a body, you can get a great deal on a 5D (MK II or MK III) or 6D kit, which includes the 24-105 f4 L.

Great lens! Posted by: from: san jose, ca on Personally, I love this lens, I am amateur photographer, learning and improving steadily. I own a 7D and will soon be buying a 6D. I'm not great at writing reviews but here's a summary of my friend's view on the lens (he is a professional photographer, a real one, haha): Pros - smaller, lighter lens with improved weight distribution. Flare resistance, sharpness and color accuracy comparable to Canon L Prime lenses. New center pinch-style lens cap and button-release hood. Cons - No more internal zooming, camera can't stand face down on hood, expensive, doesn't hold focus after changing focal length. Exposure is affected slightly throughout zoom range.

Ideal lens for in-door low light fast action photo Posted by: from: on This is the third Cannon zoom lens that I've used to shoot high quality, fast action in-door pictures for my daughter volleyball games. The other lens were f3.5, results were ok but frequently the players or other action was blurred. This lens produce high quality, super clarity and brilliant color in low light conditions found in gyms. The lens is very expensive for the average photography work but if you want great pictures is fast action, low light settings this is the one. Their only this age once!

Great Lens for Events Photography Posted by: from: on Canon - EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Standard Zoom Lens is an impressively high performing zoom lens for wedding or any other events. Simply to say, it is the best general purpose lens. It is one of the sharpest lens I have used in my photography career. This lens has very quiet, fast and accurate autofocus.
