Great for Macros, not for Portraits Posted by: from: Portland, OR on I didn't get this from Best Buy. Lens is great for Macro work. I recently used this for some product shots of jewelery. While working between 6" to 3ft from the product and subject it focused very well and spot on. The color reproduction was good enough for my client and I. I tried using this for portraiture but found it too slow. Its a macro lens so its range of focus is much wider so in low light or regular light it often searches for the focus point through the entire range from infinity to near before heading back to your subject. You get a lot of awkward looks when people smile THAT long as you struggle to focus. However when yo do get it to focus it does produce great bokeh. Not recommended for those people looking to double dip and get that macro lens and something to use for portraiture. This is really a macro lens at heart.

Brings a new level of excitement to her craft. Posted by: from: Coeur d'Alene, ID on This was a gift for my wonderful wife who always had a great eye for composition, but not the technical background to get her favorite type of pix... MACRO. This lens has opened up that world for her providing auto focus and auto exposure ability at ~ 8 inches from the lens. Images have been stunning. Bokah: she's now able to choose how deep the depth of field is and still get good shots. It's been wonderful seeing this woman who's been my photo companion on hundreds of pro shoots becoming a photographer in her own right!

As Expected Posted by: from: Chicago, IL on Its a Canon...what else can I say. Very satisfied with my purchase. I made the right choice for my Canon T1i. If I had the money I would buy all L versions

Loved Results of Pictures Using Macro Lens Posted by: from: Morrison, CO on Wish I had bought the 100 instead of the 60 so I don't need to get so close to the subject.

Great lens Posted by: from: on I love this lens. It opens up a whole new world of those tiny parts of natural objects. Shooting up close lets you see what the naked eye or normal lens cannot see. This lens is capable of extremely sharp images. There is a small learning curve when it comes to using a macro, but once you get it it a delight to use.

Sweet Macros! Posted by: from: on I do a lot of close up photography and underwater shots of small animals. This lens is one of my favorite I have ever used!! It also does very well for Portrait style photography with a blurred background.

Excellent lens on an SL1 Posted by: from: on This is a very sharp lens that is useful for both macro and medium telephoto shooting. It's light weight is a good match to an SL1, The auto focus hunts a little bit when shooting macro, but this is easily overcome with a little patience or by switching to manual focus. It's a small inconvenience with respect to the overall performance of the lens. The price is very reasonable for a true macro lens.

Excellent Macro and Portrait Lens Posted by: from: Clearwater, FL on This is probably the best EF-S lens Canon makes. It is extremely sharp and with the f2.8 it provides excellent light and control of depth of field. On the bodies that use EF-S lenses it also gives the view of approximately 100mm. Great to portraits.
