Great camera for hobbyist photo and video
Posted by: dhornick from: on
I bought this camera as an upgrade from my 2 year old Canon t3. I wanted something that would take great stills, but also be able to capture video without going all the way for a full-frame. After using it for a few weeks, this camera has yet to disappoint. Here are some of the highlights for me so far.
Feel free to check out more images taken on this camera on my flickr here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/51924711@N07/
- Live view dual pixel AF: everything you may have read about this feature is true. The subject tracking, even in low contrast situations, is great and makes it very easy to maintain focus on moving subjects. Combine this with the touch screen to easily switch focus points and you have a home run.
- Touch screen: speaking of that touch screen, I have to say I was originally not sold and considered the feature to be gimmicky at best. Boy was I wrong. The screen is very vibrant and makes changing settings on the fly that much easier. The articulating feature is very nice for those times when you want to shoot very low or over a crown and would rather not guess as to your aim.

This camera is better then the 7d!!
Posted by: ARTISTICDAVE from: San Bernardino on
I got this camera to replace my t2i and compared its night and day the 70d is fast. I used the wifi to take a picture and every one was how did you do that with your cell phone. they where amazed. I like how fast it keeps focus and stays on a subject.
I will tell everyone to choose this over the old 7d I did so much research before I bought this camera Its nice as its fast there is nothing bad I would say about it. The new 70D is a game changer Period!!

Best DSLR for video yet. No more follow focus!
Posted by: from: on
I just recieved this camera with the 18-135mm kit yesterday and it is amazing! After some basic tests I have come to the conclusion that this is my favorite camera yet. The autofocus in video mode is perfect and smooth. You can simply touch the part of the screen you want to focus on and boom! Smooth quick focus. Way faster and more accurate than the sony translucent tech and it tracks the subject youre trying to film way better. The speed at which this camera takes photos is unfathomable. In continuous shooting mode with raw images it shoots at full speed for almost a minute before the buffer can't handle it. Also the low light performance for a camera in this range is at a whole new level! Even at the highest ISO it exceeds the average of other cameras in this price range by FAR! If you're upgrading from a rebel or 60D this is the camera you want no doubt. And with the WIFI options previously only offered on the 6D the value of this camera can not be beat. Not to mention the new 20.2 MP sensor. Talk about sharp. I can't wait to see what the full frame 7D MKII will be able to do whenever it comes out. Canon always taking the DSLR race to the next level.

Truly An Awesome Camera
Posted by: studiogeek from: Carlsbad,NM on
I recently purchased this 70D camera as an upgrade from a Canon 30D mainly for the 20+ megapixels because the pictures were being displayed on large screen from video projector. Cropping the pictures or zooming in took away some of the clarity with the smaller megapixel camera on such a large screen. Main use is for sports photography. For indoor (basketball) I use a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II and for outdoor (soccer) I use a Canon 100-400mm f/4 IS. Very fast focus and with 7fps if your camera is pointed in the right direction you won't miss the action. Great video from this camera. Being able to control the focus from the touch screen is an added bonus. I took some video of my daughter shooting her bow. Being able to focus on her and just touching the screen and switch focus to the target with the arrow sticking out without moving the camera is awesome. Although I have not used the wifi yet it is there if and when I need to control camera from phone or tablet. This camera is exactly what I was looking for to up my creativity level a couple of notches.

Are you ready?

Solid build. Clicks like a dream. Viewfinder paradise. 10/10 would buy again. Very comfortable touch screen, pinch zoom, sturdy buttons, I would highly recommend this to any advancing photo enthusiast. I have a sport Sigma 150-600mm which is VERY sharp, and I also purchased the 50mm f1.8 which is very sharp in almost any lighting. I love the fact that it cleans the sensor after each usage, and I love how heavy it feels. It's not actually heavy, only 1.66lbs, but it makes you feel like it's built well. The camera has a wireless commander as well, it'll let you take pictures from your phone if you're into that, I was experimenting with it while out at Nisqually Refuge, but the response wasn't quick enough for my liking, maybe for family portraits or something. ISO range is pretty incredible, up to 12800 (without boost) if you like grainy pictures I guess.. Battery life is also very good, around 850-950 photos depending on what kind of format you're taking them in, and it takes shots at 7fps. I'd say I'm a happy buyer.

Great camera. Very responsive and handles well. Night pictures seem to come out better then 60D. Wifi remote ability is good.

WOW! Canon hit the nail on the head with this one!
Posted by: SMRDvr79 from: on
I have had Canons for over 20 years. I sent my T3i in for service/repair to Canon and was disappointed in them so I decided I'd switch to Nikon. When I went into Best Buy to take a hard look at a new camera, I was shocked to see a real "Canon" representative in the store (San Luis Obispo). He apologized sincerely for the Canon Corp issues, gave me a personal business card and then showed me all of the new features of the 70D. Talk about blown away! Plus, their regular camera sales associate is ALWAYS knowledgeable. He can answer everything I ask and has the experience with the camera to back it up. Landscapes, portraits, action, underwater, adventure. This was the BEST experience I had in a Best Buy and with a camera purchase. The 70D is such a huge upgrade and (only in my personal opinion), a must have for a photo enthusiast, intermediate level photographer. Pixels a plus, process speed a plus, touch screen LCD a plus... I can go on and on. If you're looking at cameras, please just give it a shot and at least go into a store to check it out.

These cameras sell themselves now because of that YouTube guy! The touch screen is great. And the dual pixel auto focus is great! I haven't found one thing I don't like about it yet.

Best camera to compete with D7100 so far from Cano
Posted by: wcbirder from: Houston -Galveston area on
I will say that this is the best camera so far in the same price range as Nikon D7100 and compares very well with it in low light and high ISO. It may be superior with an L lens but who can afford L lenses.
Like th tough screen after gettng ajusted to it. prefer the wheel on the 7D and the 50D over the one on the 70D I would like to see canon use the same wheel as 7D. This wheel is easy to hit . all in all a great camera for the price.
