Pro level portable strobe Posted by: from: Maryland on I now own three of these beasts. The improvement over the previous 580 ex is not just a bump in power, but the addition of built in wireless radio transmitter triggers that do not require line of sight to operate. This is a huge improvement over the old optical trigger system, which did not work reliably in bright sun. I just used a 600 on the beach doing informal one-light portraits of my kids. I had the 600 mounted inside a Wescott Orb. Like a number of modifiers, the Orb fully encloses the flash, making power adjustments a total pain. Using a dedicated transmitter in the hot shoe of my Canon, I could easily adjust the flash output and other parameters on the 600 right from the camera, rather than putting down the camera, carefully peeling back the diffusion material on the Orb and reaching up into the enclosure to make adjustments on the flash. This is a pro quality flash/trigger system that is great for location shooting. It will not have the power of a monolight, but in most cases that's not necessary, and the 600 offsets that by being both lightweight and far more affordable. Get one. Or two.

Pro level flash that does the job.. Posted by: from: on This is my third one, over the course of 3 years.. the other 2 still work, but I did manage to fry one and was repaired by Canon. I work for a company that shoots everything from weddings to corporate events on a weekly to sometimes daily basis so my speed lights see a lot of use and are put through the paces.. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who shoots photos for a living and needs a workhorse of a flash, or someone who has the 580EXII and is ready to upgrade. Otherwise, if you only occasionally use a flash, I do believe they now make a 430EX-RT as well, which is a cheaper option.

Best Speedlite Every Made Posted by: from: Chicago on I am a Pro photographer base in the Chicago area. I shoot mostly studio and some events. I have never trusted small flash out on location so I always use Two Elinchrom Quadra packs. So I took a Chance about a month ago with Three of these Speedlites. Wow High speed sync has Change my photography. The results are mind blowing. In my professional opinion these are worth the money. I am going to purchase two more for a grand total of 5.

Versatile flash once you master it. Posted by: from: on This is a great flash, in the beginning I wondered if it was more flash than I needed. However, once I figured it out, I realized that there was so much more that I could use it for to ad depth and interest to my photos, both indoors and out. To help me familiarize myself with the flash, I watched a couple tutorial videos on YouTube. I found that the ones by Gary Fong and B&H Camera/Video were really helpful. Also, a DVD by Blue Crane Digital on this flash was good as well.

Fantastic Flash Posted by: from: Cape Cod, MA on I mastered all functions this flash has to offer within a few hours of removing it from the box. I like having both radio and optical control and being able to configure both from the camera. During this time I took several hundred practice photos on three cameras, used the power intensive modeling and strobe modes and still had juice left on my nicad rechargeables. I don't like that Canon currently has only two gel filters available for the enclosed adapter but my other exiting kits work quite well. The locking foot adapter was very easy to get used to.

Powerful Speedlite Posted by: from: on I have found the Canon 600EX-RT to be a powerful flash with nice radio trigger capabilities for controlling other wireless speedlites such as other 600EX-RT's or 430EX III-RT's. I also recommend getting an off-camera TTL flash cord to allow you to remove the flash from your camera. That allows you position the light it provides in other useful ways.

The Canon 600EX-RT Lite Up My World Posted by: from: on Love the Canon 600EX-RT speedlite-it is the second one I have purchased and I plan to buy a third. I use the Canon ST-E3-RT speedlite transmitter on my Canon 5D Mark lll camera and I'm good to go. No other triggers needed. My pocket wizard radio triggers may be collecting dust now. The 600EX-RT did intimidate me at first as my experience with speedlites was a bit limited at that time. I actually kept my first 600EX-RT in the box for months. However, once I did get use to the interface on the speedlite I had no problems with the ST-E3-RT speedlite transmitter as they kept the interfaces almost the same. (Due to my lack of experience, I'll admit to purchasing a Michael the Maven (Michael Andrew) tutorial specific to the 600EX-RT speedlite. It really takes you by the hand. Most people probably wouldn't have to go to that extreme. After that I finally dove in head first and wondered why I had waited so long). The "RT" in the name refers to "radio trigger" which is so much better than optical triggers which need line of sight. Radio waves travel further and can go through obstacles like walls, etc. If you don't have the ST-E3-RT speedlite transmitter, one 600EX-RT can trigger another 600EX-RT but you are more or less wasting the flash that's doing the triggering. If it is not contributing to the lighting setup it makes for a pretty expensive trigger. The ST-E3-RT is half the price. I also have an older Canon 580EX speedlite but the 600EX-RT blows it away. I rarely look back at the 580EX. I will mention, however, that the ST-E3-RT speedlite transmitter only works with the 600EX-RT as it is strictly radio transmission vs. optical transmission. And what a great combination these two make!

Get the best speedlite Posted by: from: Redondo Beach, CA on This is my second unit and it increases my creative setups! I have a 7D and a Speedlite transmitter or radio popper is not needed. I use the built in radio transmission to link flashes. I have the master on a sync cord to get it away from the camera. The slave is linked by radio letting me move the unit down halls, behind walls, outside windows, etc. The money saved not needing a transmitter allowed me to get the most powerful flash. Units are controlled right on the camera! Spend the money and get the best - dependable and powerful!
