Filmmaker Juan C. Dávila documents the David versus Goliath conflict between a group of Puerto Rican environmental activists and the Marriott hotel chain after plans for a luxury resort on a scenic stretch of beach spark outrage amongst the locals. Upon learning of Marriott's plans to construct a massive hotel on the beach in Carolina, a group of locals decide to sabotage the project by setting up a camp on the work site. The locals argue that not only does the beach belong to the people, but that the hotel could wreck havoc on the local wildlife population. Implored by the Puerto Rican tourist board and Marriott managers to relent in their efforts to block the construction, the stubborn locals instead persist, braving everything from hurricanes to swarms of mosquitoes as they set up a small tent city, and continue to stand their ground. And though defeating the leviathan seems unlikely, with each day the construction is stalled comes a small sense of victory for the common people. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
