    Common Sense Media Says:
Lesser cousin of mature, top-rated crime show.

    Synopsis

Season 5 begins with Horatio (David Caruso) and Delko (Adam Rodriguez) traveling to Rio de Janeiro to find Antonio Riaz (Vincent Laresca), the man responsible for Marisol's death in the Season 4 finale. While there, H. learns his brother Ray (Christopher Stapleton) is back doing undercover work and may be connected to Riaz. Even more disturbing is that Horatio's nephew Ray Jr. (Carter Jenkins) is a drug mule for Riaz. Back in Miami, Ryan (Jonathan Togo) reluctantly works with former lab mole Natalia (Eva La Rue). But cool colleagues aren't Natalia's only problem. Her abusive ex-husband Nick (Rob Estes) is released from prison and begins showing up at crime scenes to harass her. Later, Natalia's sister is kidnapped by a man posing as a photographer. The case was inspired by a true story that happened to La Rue's real-life sister Nika, who makes a guest appearance as a reporter. Calleigh (Emily Procter) is also confronted with a past love when she arrests ex-boyfriend Jake Berkeley (Johnny Whitworth), who is working undercover as part of a motorcycle gang. His capture is a ruse to discover information about a crime, but Jake refuses to cooperate fearing it will interfere with his own investigation. Out in the field, Ryan allows a TV crew to film him while he works. He claims his motivation is to help restore the lab's reputation after previous damaging leaks. But Delko isn't convinced. He believes Ryan just loves being in the spotlight. Tripp (Rex Linn) finds himself in a tight spot when he steps on a land mine. Fortunately, he doesn't step off of it and a bomb-squad crew works to diffuse the device. Clavo Cruz (Gonzalo Menendez), a killer who initially eluded Horatio in Season 2 because of diplomatic immunity but was finally put away in Season 3, escapes from prison. Finally, H. learns that Yelina (Sofia Milos) is working as a private investigator, and a serial murderer who reportedly possesses a "killer gene" is sought. ~ Tim Holland, Rovi
