Synopsis

First Impersonator
Documentary filmmaker Chad Freidichs examines the fascinating world of Presidential impersonators by contrasting the career of George W. Bush look-a-like Brent Mendenhall with the life and career of famed John F. Kenedy impersonator Vaughn Meader. It was 1999, right around the time that the Governor of Texas announced his bid for the Presidency, that Mendenhall first began getting jibes about his resemblance to the next potential Commander in Chief. Later, when Bush secured the Republican nomination, Mendenhall quit his job in construction and began honing his impersonation to a fine point. Mendenhall didn't have any comic training to speak of, yet in just a few month's time he had crafted a humorous twenty-minute speech and become a major hit on the corporate speaking circuit. Four years later, as Bush came up for a second term, Mendenhall found himself as eager to discover the outcome of the election as the man seated in the Oval Office. After all, what would happen to Mendenhall's career if John Kerry took over the White House? Later, as Mendenhall makes appearances at sporting events, appears on television commercials, stops by the Log Cabin Republican's National Convention in Palm Springs, and travels the country speaking at corporate events, election night draws near, and the popular Presidential impersonator awaits the announcement that will determine his career course for the next four years. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
