Hard-working, quiet dehumidifier
Posted by: STL71 from: on
We bought this dehumidifier to replace another one that had been recalled, and it is performing very well. Our basement went from its usual spring damp and mustiness to dry within a matter of hours. The unit is quiet and easy to use. And we like the fact that it has three speeds. Initially we had it running on high but have since turned it to medium and will probably adjust again to low. We plan to add a hose so that we don't have to empty the tank when it is full. If you're in the market for a large dehumidifier that makes very little noise and is pretty intuitive, this one is great.

Works so far.

Consumer Reports recommended this model and it was readily available in a store near me. My previous Frigidaire dehumidifier lasted 16 years. I was impressed with that service life to keep my basement dry. Reviews have stated that this and all other dehumidifiers will die within 2 to five years due to fatal electronic failures. This is now typical for all appliances unfortunately. They don't make them like they used to and Frigidaire is now owned by Electrolux to boot.
Will have to see how long this model will last. Durability was not rated for dehumidifiers by Consumer Reports which was disappointing but is indicative that manufactures are making things to throw away and not to last. I did buy the 4 year store warranty due to other reviews stating that this model will die within a 2 to 5 year time period. Read the warranty!
It is working as expected for now, but will have to see if it will stand the test of time. Have owned it for a month and counting.
There are a few things about this model that I do not like.
The bucket that collects water is horribly small for this unit, only 2 gallons or 16 pints! Best option is to have it drain through a hose which is located on the left hand side of the unit to a floor drain.
The worst design flaw with this model is the air intake is at the rear of the unit and not at the front where the bucket is. With this in mind the unit will be taking in air from the wall side so you will need a lot of room between the wall and the unit. Bad engineering, the intake should be at the front facing toward the center of the damp room. The discharged air flows out of the right hand side of the unit. This units layout may not be the best option for your situation so give it a think over.
My old Frigidaire had the air intake in the front over the bucket with the air discharge on the left and hose drain on the right.
Consider where you will be placing your dehumidifier, the air intake, the air exhaust and drain position before purchasing.

Dead after 1 summer
Posted by: Kimsc from: on
I bought Frigidaire FFAD7033R1 dehumidifier in May 2015. Turn off most of the winter in 2015. Failed to work in summer 2016. It turn on for a while then show F0 code. I had it just over one year, so it's out of one-year warranty. Very disappointing to pay $260 for 1 year use.
Will try different company.

good only for one summer

I bought this unit and it worked okay the first summer, when i plugged the next season it did not work exactly a year and one day after purchased. The warranty was expired by one day when i called customer service.
Was good only for about 5 months or less because it was not used on the fall or winter.

Purchased this unit after doing some comparative shopping, and found the Frigidaire units not only scored better then nearly all other units in multiple on-line rating sites, but the quality was far above those I was able to inspect personally. The ease of use, quiet operation and efficiency of this 70 pint model impressed me. I have a log home with a full basement, and this dehumidifier more than handled the damp air. My wife and I are very pleased with our purchase.

I have owned about 6 dehumidifiers while living in humid Houston Texas. During the summer and some winters it runs 24 hours a day. I must empty the bucket every 7 hours. This bucket is smaller than the others I have owned. I don't care what kind of dehumidifier you purchase they only last 3 or 4 years at best before it just stops taking the mositure out of the air. It helps a ton on the A/C. You can raise your thermostat by 2 or 3 degrees and still feel comfortable. Also I don't care what kind of dehumidifier you buy they all make noise. But I will say this one has been good so far.
I have noticed you have to clean the screen or it will stop working properly. Once you clean it, it works like a charm.

This dehumidifier was a lemon. It replaced a dehumidifier which stopped working after 13 months old. That dehumidifier was replaced under the Best Buy protection plan. This new dehumidifier stopped working after 5 weeks. Hopefully the third one will work.

I briefly researched this purchase and the Fridgidare was the best rated dehumidifier on several websites. I got the 70 pint model as I have approx. 1800sf of living space. The indoor humidity reached 72% this morning and has been averaging 65% for well over a week. I've had this thing running for a little over 3 hours and it's already filled the water collector container nearly 1/2 full and brought the humidity down to 58%. With the potential damage to the home, namely to my pricey laminate flooring and the harmful health issues that arise with high indoor humidity levels, this purchase was a no brainer. With the fan on high, it's not obnoxiously loud and being winter, the return air coming out of it is close to room temperature (68 degrees#. I like the auto shut off feature and the alarm that tells you the water container is full. With my floor, water spills if not cleaned up right away, would ruin it.
It is a very nice looking item, and while a bit heavy #52 lbs or so) it has a very sturdy handle on top to not only lift it out of the box easily, but to move it around when needed. I'm impressed with features such as setting a desired humidity level, 3 fan settings and a timer.
It easily runs on a 15A circuit if that's all you have available but a 20A would probably be a better option. Electricity is expensive in my part of California, so I'm hoping the EnergyStar rating keeps that still unknown in check. Realistically, with my only other option being running my a/c with 50 degree outside temp, whatever it is it will be worth it.
If you're like me and can't afford a sophisticated humidity control system in your home, this appliance is the best bang for your buck.

This is a quiet and efficient humidifier. Consumer Reports rated it highly and that is why we purchased it. It was a good choice.

IMPORTANT!! If you have a Frigidaire dehumidifier that quit working, Google Frigidaire buy back. They will pay you what you paid for your old unit depending on the Model and how old it is. Mine was 3years old and I've filed for a refund. Since my old dehumidifier had quit, the humidity in my basement had crept up to 73%! Started this one up and it brought it down to 53% in just a few hours. Since a lot of moisture had accumulated it took a few days to stabilize. There seemed to be lots of fluctuations between where I set it and a separate digital humidistat I had nearby. I was thinking of returning it. But after all the excess moisture was removed, I've had it set on 45% and my humidistat sits steady on 46%....close enough for me!! I preferred the front intake and top discharge on my old Frigidaire dehumidifier, but I use this in the basement and placement is not an issue.
