Cost effective, but won't fit compact units

First, this item is very hard to find in stores, the only other one I found being sold by an auto parts store for $32.00. Thanks Best Buy for stocking it.
This is a two part kit with a "shaving razor" shaped handle and slip-on fin straighteners of different sizes. These are marked in "FPI" (fins per inch) up to 14 FPI. It won't work on denser, compact window units. I had to use the #14 to fit my mid-size window units, so this is obviously designed for larger heat exchangers and condensers.
All parts are contained in a compact plastic tube with a cover for convenient storage. The handle and attachments are molded plastic. This is a good thing, as metal would bind to the fragile aluminum fins of air conditioning units. The flexible plastic will slide through the finds and gently push them back into position.
It is important to find the closest match and carefully insert it into the fins before pulling it through the damaged areas. I had to trim a manufacturing burr off #14 to get it to go in. The results will not be perfect or even pretty, but it won't be blocked any more, improving the efficiency of your unit.

Not for modern A/C's less than 30 years old.

The combs in this "universal" set are for 8 to 14 fins per inch. Each comb is neatly labeled so you can quickly sort them out from larger to smaller and find the right size for you. Provided, of course, your A/C is at least 30 years old or more. Modern A/C's are made with 16 to 22 fins per inch, making this "universal" set useless for my purposes. My oldest A/C, from the mid 1990's (20 years old) was 16 fins per inch, while my newest (2 years old) is 22. Why this product hasn't been updated for A/C's manufactured after the 1980's is beyond me.

not useful for anything

The tool is made of plastic and so are the attachments. None of the attachments will fit an air conditioner. I tried it on two different brand units and none of the attachments would come even close to fitting. I would not recommend this tool to anyone.

Higher rating had the package been complete

The fin comb set would handle most home owner needs. However one comb, probably the most needed in my case, was missing and it became a hassle to reorder to replace the set.
