inside paint peels
Posted by: Kath from: on
I like the size of this microwave, and it does a good job cooking. However, after about a year, the paint on the inside begins to peel, and eventually looks bad and drops paint into anything uncovered. This is my second GE microwave, and the same thing happened on both.

small, nice looking, relatively quiet
Posted by: basecamp from: on
Was looking for a small microwave to replace the one we have on our countertop. Tried the Panasonic NN-SD372S Stainless 950W 0.8 Cu. Ft from amazon. Loved the power, but the fan cooling the inverter runs a full 60 seconds after every use which I did not like at all.
Tried the LG - 0.7 Cu. Ft. Microwave - Stainless-Steel from Best Buy but it was way too loud, had black sides, and seemed kinda cheap.
So, finally tried this GE microwave.
-- Stainless front with gray sides looks nice.
-- One touch buttons. Push the 30 sec button or the 1 thru 6 numbers and the microwave starts cooking. So simple.
-- When running, it is quieter than our old counter top microwave and quieter than the other two microwaves I tried.
-- You can turn off the beeps!!! Since I am up early, that is a huge plus in our small house.
-- The button to open the door feels solid not flimsy like some small microwaves.
-- very compact.
-- only $79.99
-- Heats better than our old small microwave. But when I heated six ounces of water for 90 seconds, the LG water was five degrees warmer.
Overall, I really like this microwave. I do not do anything fancy with my microwave, just use it to reheat food, warm up a tortilla for a wrap, or pop popcorn. This microwave meets my needs while looking nice, being relatively quiet, and taking up little space.

Pretty but one BIG issue
Posted by: chloetada from: pa on
I like this MW, good size for my needs, but the glass tray bounces around because it does not fit into the slots of the center anchor well enough. A plate tips to the side, coffee cup tilts to the side, you end up with spills all because mfr is too cheap to put an adequate center tray holder. This is such an easy thing for GE to fix, but obviously they don't think it's worth it. When your food wobbles around inside I see this as a very BIG issue. Returning mine.

Compact counter top microwave
Posted by: beaky1211 from: on
This is a great compact microwave for my small kitchen. It takes up very little room and ideal size, design, and color that suits my workspace.
I have never used a microwave for much more that heating and defrosting and this one does the trick and more.
I left off one star ... while a dinner plate fits on the carousel, it does not fit through the doorway of the microwave unless you tilt the plate on the side. So, either use a smaller plate or bowl or heat/defrost/cook something that's not going to slide off the plate :-)

Pros and Cons
Posted by: Kay007 from: Lynn, MA on
Pros: Dimensions and power are ideal for people like me who want a small footprint and only to heat up food and beverages. The oven offers a wide range of features, including the option of muting the beep. It has the look and feel of a quality product, and I’m very pleased with how well it works.
Cons: The overly short power cord is located on the oven's right. This is good for a wall socket on the right but if it's on the left (as is my case), 17 inches of the cord is used up just stretching it from the right to the left. This makes the cord undesirably shorter. Also, the instructions for changing the power level in the JES1072 Owner’s Manual didn’t work. I thought the oven was defective until I experimented and discovered how to change the power level.

love the option to turn off sound
Posted by: cmabell from: on
I bought this microwave for my daughter's college dorm and she loves it. It's your usual microwave but what made me pick this one among so many others available in the market is the option to turn off all the beeping sounds, which is great for dorms if you don't want to wake your roommate. I also like that it had the button to open the door instead of tugging at it. Plus it looks really nice!! Highly recommended!!

Small and quiet

We had to do some searching, but we finally found a microwave that was affordable AND had the option of turning off the sound. (We returned the last one we tried because the beeping was so loud.) This unit has less power than others we've had in the past, sometimes individual frozen meals need an extra minute or two to cook completely. This would be great for a dorm or single person, it's perfect for heating up things and light use. If you're looking to actually "cook" in a microwave you may want a bigger/more powerful model. Personally I think it looks great and love the smaller size.

Small and functional
Posted by: HalvesNHalfKnots from: on
We were looking for a smaller microwave due to our very limited counter space. We're quite happy with the result. This model is ever so slightly smaller than the model from a few years ago, so we have a bit more counter space now than we had before the upgrade to this model. That's important in a small kitchen.
If you have larger dinner plates (we do), they may not fit through the door opening (ours don't). But we have large bowls that fit just fine, so we use those instead to reheat meals or leftovers, etc. our dinner plates did fit through the door of the older model, but other than that minor inconvenience, we have nothing but positive experiences from our upgrade to this model. One touch cooking, reheat options, etc. all serve our needs quite well.
