I do not recommend this microwave! Posted by: from: on Bought this microwave a year and a half ago and the handle broke off the door. Also the finish on the door around the window is cracking and falling off. Tried to call GE support but was not able to speak with a human. I would not recommend this product or any other GE products based on this experience.

Totally worth it. Buy it & install it yourself. Posted by: from: on Operation is very quiet, food heats up quickly, installation was reasonable for a DIY individual. Installation was probably about a 6/10 in scale of difficulty. If you've hung a shelf, you can install this microwave. (1) Locate/trace Studs (2) Drill bracket Holes & screw in the bracket. (3) Prepare the microwave ventilation (4) Cut the template for your cabinet style (5) Cut out the cabinet holes for the screws & power cord (6) place microwave on bracket and insert screws through cabinet base to hold microwave in place. (7) plug in microwave (8) make popcorn The most intensive part of this whole installation process was changing the outlet above the range from a cap to an actual outlet. If you're only one person getting this thing into place, use a sterlite/rubbermaid to get it close to the height and then its much easier. I did this since my wife is pregnant. You can do it. Especially consider this if you've already got a stove in place.

Challenging installation Posted by: from: on I had a challenging installation, in part because of my 15 inch deep upper cabinets. If you have 15 inch deep cabinets, you'll need a "bump out kit" rather than the standard mounting plate. For some reason this kit seemed to cause us trouble. Specifically, it seemed to make the microwave not level front to back. The instructions don't mention this. Also, if you are installing this for re-circulating, you need to swap the direction of the fan. If you are planning to have it installed, then these things are probably not important, but for the DIY installer, it is challenging.

Great powerful heating aparatus Posted by: from: on It took some doing drilling this into a tile backsplash but I got it in perfect and level. Heats food way better than our old microwave ever did and 2 minutes is more than enough time for most of our reheating operations. It took at least 4 minutes with our old dorm size clunker.

Great Microwave Posted by: from: on I purchased this GE microwave to replace the GE that I had for several years. I didn't think it would be as good but it's much quieter and really solid.

Quiet microwave with loud door Posted by: from: on Positives - actual microwaving is quiet, performs as you'd expect Negative (only negative and reason it doesn't receive 5 stars) - the door is loud when you open and close it. Even if you try to open or close it very slow and carefully, it's still loud (especially closing). The door lifts up slightly when you close it, so it makes me wonder if it's slightly off to begin with. It's interesting, because the actual microwaving is very quiet compared to our former microwave, yet the door is much louder.

I do like the microwave. Posted by: from: on I was dissatisfied with the process due to the fact that there were no "guts"...no plate, no support ring, no carousel drive coupler, and no manual with the microwave. For me to purchase just the plate alone was $92. Unfortunately, I thought that Best Buy would stand by their product and make good on the missing items so my husband installed the microwave. That was not the case. When I called, the only thing the rep would do is have us return the microwave for another one. It took quite a lot of time to install it and I couldn't believe that was the only option. I will not recommend purchasing this way from Best Buy to anyone. Marty Hammer

good value. install not included Posted by: from: on this microwave was basically an updated version of our old microwave. It's reliable and simple - no convection oven functions (we have an oven for that). The install service costs the same amount as the microwave itself so we chose to DIY. Instructions were straightforward and just required time and muscle. We've been happy with it so far.

Was fine until year 2 - broken door Posted by: from: on We've barely had our microwave mounted for 2 years when the door handle literally broke off as my husband went to open it today. Not just came off at the screws but completely broke. I would expect a GE product to last longer than 2 years, especially for the price and hassle of a wall-installation.
