BEST AVRIL ALBUM YET!!!
Posted by: APJCU14 from: Cleveland on
Although it has been four years since her last album and two years since her last tour ended, all will be forgiven when you hear this work of art. Her last album, TBDT gave us all, the upbeat pop side of Avril, her new album Goodbye Lullaby has shown that she is back to her roots. Avril really shows her maturity and growth with this album, she wrote half of the album on her own and even produced two of the tracks, 4 Real and Goodbye. The album is acoustic rock with encouraging lyrics and ZERO AUTOTUNE. Don't get too put off by her single What The Hell, which was written with hit maker Max Martin, since her record label wanted her to make a more "radio friendly" and urban album to compete with the likes of Ke$ha, although Avril stood her ground and fought them until they made a compromise to add three Max Martin tracks while keep her original idea for this album.
To say this album is like her previous ones would be an understatement and although the majority of the songs are inspired by her recent divorce with Deryck Whibley there is no angsty lyrics and no hate for her former husband. In fact, the album describes their current friendship and there are even tracks which Deryck produced.
alright, song by song description:
Black Star: A lullaby type instrumental interlude, which breaks in to Avril singing "Black Star/Black Star/ You will always be a black star/ shining star/ you will always be a rock star." Personally, being an avid Avril fan since 2002, and fearing it was to only promote her perfume, it is clear this song has a lot of meaning to her.
What The HeII: Kind of a wake up call after the subtle and mellow tones of Black Star, but adds a nice upbeat track to the album, and is the most upbeat song on the album besides her song Smile. It's about personal freedom and just having a great time on the town.
Push: Avril wrote this song with her best friend and former lead guitarist Evan Taubenfeld. It's one of her favorite songs. The song starts out with an acoustic guitar and drums with her jumping right in singing. The song is about a relationship and kind of just saying let's fight for love and to move forward because in the end you still love each other. The lyrics go "It's a, a waste of my time lately/And I'm running out of words/If it's really meant to be/Then you can find a way to see"
Wish You Were Here: It's another Max Martin and Avril Lavigne track but not face paced at all and really showcases her voice off. It's about missing someone you care about or someone you have had a falling out with someone and you really miss them. some lyrics that really stand out are "I love the way you are/It's who I am, don't have to try hard"
Smile: :-D One of my favorite songs, really upbeat and fun and one of the singles you'll love it!! Written with Max Martin
Stop Standing There: Typical love song of want someone to feel the same for you, and they don't make a move. Has a really cool 50s vibe to it and a great chorus. She wrote this on her own!
I Love You: Written with Max, it's about loving someone for them just being who they are. It's acoustic vibe and her voice is fantastic in it. You'll be humming all day!
Everybody Hurts: Sounds depressing right? Wrong. It's about how everybody feels pain, hurts and feels scarred sometimes but at the end of the day it is all going to be okay and that everything will work out. One of my personal favs, all acoustic driven!
Not Enough: Written by Avril, directly about her divorce and how Deryck wasn't giving her what she needed to make it work. Amazing vocals and medium paced, contender for a single!
4 Real: Eh, she wrote and produced it on her own, about finding out if your feelings for each other are real.
Darlin: Amazing song, she wrote it when she was 15 and it is very uplifting and catchy
Remember When: Written by Avril, and produced by Deryck. Has a feeling of Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day. It's very emotional and her vulnerability and the feelings in her voice shine through. This song is directly related to her divorce with lyrics like "These feelings I can't shake no more, there's feelings running out the door.. and "this emptiness in the bottom drawer/it's getting harder to pretend" At the end she belts it all out, very moving.
Goodbye: Written and produced by Avril. This song is the title track of the album and the most personal song Avril has ever written. It's a tearjerker but a great song. It has soaring strings and lyrics like "I have to go/I have to go/ but always know I love you so" the chorus is "Goodbye brown eyes, goodbye for now/ Goodbye sunshine/ take care of yourself"
Alice: it's the hidden track, extended version with an extra verse that makes the song amazing!
There you have it, that is Goodbye Lullaby, you will not regret buying this album and if you were a fan of Let Go and Under My Skin, you will love Goodbye Lullaby like a child. Happy listening everyone!!!
