Worth the money

Solid quality, the case snaps around the ipad securely and has the outside rubber layer for shock absorbtion. The built in screen protector doesnt prevent the responsiveness of the touch screen and everything just feels more secure.
a couple of cons: 1, the stand when used in a more upright position wobbles ALOT, not a huge con but for some i know it would drive people crazy. The second con is while all the ports are covered, the covers can be a bit of a pain to remove. I guess if i had any sort of finger nails it wouldnt be so bad. Lastly, (you may or may not consider this a con) the case does add a significant amount of weight but i much prefer the weight as i dont feel the unit is so flimsy.
Other than that, this case is awesome.

At first I was set on getting an otterbox defender for my iPad 2, but after some research I found the Griffin Survivor. For $10 less I get a case that is built to military specs ( drop from 6ft, water resistant, sand resistant, etc), complete covering of all ports, and a built in screen protector (otterbox does not have any of these). The case does take away from the thinness and the lightness of the iPad 2 but personally I like the weighted feel. The screen covering doesn't affect the responsiveness at all and the stand is very useful especially when laying down or typing on a table.
The only complaints I have Is the rubber does smell weird, the covers to access the mic, speakers, and rear camera can be a little annoying, and finally the stand when placed on the opposite side does cover the volume down button but does not get in the way. Instead of pressing the button you have to press the stand.
Overall I am very very pleases with the case to protect my investment. I love the case and the design. It feels and is very sturdy and will keep the iPad 2 safe.

I purchased this case due to its build quality and the fact that it states it can withstand most anything. I am in the Military and I crew Blackhawks so I needed a case that could take the abuse that a lot of travel can dish out. I use it constantly and I can tell you that I have dropped it from a height of about 4 feet and no damage was done to it. I also tripped going up my stairs in the house and the iPad went flying and then proceeded to bounce all the way down the stairs and again no damage. I use an app while flying to calculate fuel consumption so I have it out most of the time. As any Crewchief will know the windows in a Blackhawk do not seal well and when flying in bad weather in the clouds the rain will spray through the cracks. The full coverage that this case provides does not make me scramble to wipe it off. The water does not penetrate the case and I have taken it out a few times after getting it wet just to check. Overall the case is a bit bulky but that is the price you pay for protection like this. I would recommend this case to anybody that wants great protection for their iPad or if you have kids that play with yours a lot. Sand, vibration, water and dropping it, my ipad2 and this case has seen it all and it is still like new. I cant praise it enough!

This case adds the needed protection for the IPad 2. It does add significant weight, but I prefer the feel and weight of the case. If you like the light thin feeling of the iPad 2, this is not the case for you. The case did take some work to get it closed completely, but once it is closed it is very secure. The access flaps do not open easily, but they are not hard to open either. The case still allows the sound to come out even with the speaker flap closed. The screen protector still smudges some, but not even close to the iPad's screen. I feel very comfortable letting my 4 year old carry and play with the iPad, knowing that the Survivor case will protect it. Overall I rate this as a great investment.

Great Cover - Major Issue for 3rd Generation IPad
Posted by: oceanlover12 from: Pennsylvania on
No need to rehash the strengths and and weaknesses of the Griffin Survivor Case. It's a quality product with one major flaw for the IPad 3rd generation. The screen protector offsets the wonderful imaging qualities of the new IPad.
This is a quote from a reviewer on another web site commenting on a competing product. However, this is a fine summation of the same characteristics I see of the Griffin Survivor Case.
"The screen protector that is built into the Defender (substituting Griffin Survivor) case is hazy and creates pinpoints of light and distortions making the viewing of the new retina display on the new iPAD a very unpleasant experience. The problems with the screen are most evident when you have a white background such as when viewing email or reading a book on the iPAD."
This is exactly my experience with the Survivor screen protector. I love the protection the product provides, but my choices are to either cut out the screen cover, use it in conjunction with another screen protector or return the product.
IMO, if you use the screen cover on the Survivor, you may as well save a $100 and buy the IPad 2 as the cover negates the wonderful display of the new IPad.

Lives up to the name

I will never regret choosing this case over the otter box. I read a review about the survivor that finalized my decision to purchase this. A man and his iPad had a motorcycle accident and it survived without any damage. This spoke volumes to me. I have an autistic child of 4 and purchased the iPad solely for her communication and disabilities. She has done everything from dropping it, small spills, and even stood on it (40lbs.). The iPad is still as good as the day we bought it. It is kind of heavy but my 4yr old will carry it all day everyday with no problems. It no longer has the light weight feeling it initially had without the case. Great product and highly recommend.

When I first put the case on I did not think I was going to like it....but once I proper snapped everything into place ,my mind was changed.
This is not for everyone...if you like you iPad thin and light don't buy however if you are like me and like substance and you are drop things and/have kids.. You will love this.

Best case out there!

When i get new electronics, i want to baby them and keep them in the best shape possible. This case has everything to keep your iPad safe and secure: screen protector, hard inner case, and soft outer case. The rubber outside makes it grip tabletops easily and the stand is pretty useful, althought it sometimes gets stuck when trying to pop it out. The way the rubber bumpers are engineered on the outside case make it very easy to hold on to. Great case. Vastly exceeded my expectations.

Best case for protection
Posted by: Michael1985 from: Henderson, NV on
I've tried several cases. My first case was a folio case by rocketfish, my daughter walked in the front door and the ipad slipped out of her hands and hit the hard floor on the corner and bounced over to the other corner - shattered the glass. Apple replaced the glass for $275.
Then I bought a otter box but I hated that one. The rubber around it, particularly near the home button, didn't stay in place and while it provided protection to the ipad tucked inside, the case itself took a lot of wear and after one week I returned it as well.
But the survivor case is awesome. The rubber around it stays in place and the structure offers very good protection against falls, etc. I wasn't sure I was going to like the screen protector. I was worried that it would hinder touches. But once installed you can't even tell its there. I have this case on my 6yr old's ipad and I no longer worry about it. It's def worth the money.

Great Case for Parents with Small Children
Posted by: ProtectiveParent from: Washington, DC on
I bought this case knowing that my 2 year old son was going to want to play games on it as he does my phone... no matter how much electronics get put away, kids always seem to find them and play with them. With this case I don't have to hide my iPad at all. This case protects against sticky fingers, crumbs and more. We have been able to take advantage of many of the learning apps and fun games, and my iPad still looks brand new underneath. This case covers all sides (completely covers the front) and really protects your tablet. For travel, I can take it as is, slide it in my bag and go without worrying about the front being scratched or the sides being bumped. I wish it had been a little cheaper in price but I still think it was worth it.
