Setting the record straight on battery life
Posted by: JTrost from: Coral Springs, FL on
I had been eyeing the vacuum for quite some time but continued to hold off because of the price. Needless to say I took the plunge. Overall I'm satisfied and recommend the product. HOWEVER, there are conflicting posts with regard to battery life. Some people claim the battery lasts for hours. Others state their disappointment because they only get 10-15 minutes of useage on a charge. I ended up being the latter so I decided to contact the manufacturer. Below is Hoover's response.
Thank you for your recent email. You can expect the Hoover Platinum Collection Stick Vac with LiNX Battery, Model #BH50010, to have "Fade Free" power during an operation/run time of approximately 11-12 minutes. The run time will vary slightly depending on whether or not the agitator brush roll is engaged or turned off. The LiNX Battery is an 18-Volt Lithium Ion Battery which will recharge in approximately 2-3 hours and can be recharged approximately 100,000 times over the life of the battery. You can tell when the battery is fully charged when the blue light on the charger pulses. The LiNX Battery and charger have a two year warranty for manufacturing defects and your Hoover Platinum Collection Stick Vac has a six year warranty for manufacturing defects.. The LiNX Battery also operates the Hoover Platinum Collection Hand Vac.
I cannot speak to how anyone is getting (significantly) longer battery life than what the manufacturer states. I do hope though that Hoover’s response above does set the record straight for future purchasers.

Super Satisfied in Hays, KS!!
Posted by: WCCouple from: Hays, KS on
We've had hardwood floors for years and were always looking for a better, easier way to keep them clean. When we recently moved, I threw out 5 or more corded and cordless "multi-purpose" vaccuums because they all had downfalls. Poor suction, attached lint cloths, poor battery life, and just overall poor performance left us needing to go ahead and sweep the old fashioned way even after using them. We had pretty much resigned ourselves to the fact that the old school broom and dust pan were going to be the only tools that would accomplish what we wanted.
We were over at our neighbors house one night and we got to talking about keeping floors clean and they had been using the Linx and they loved it. We decided that we would give technology one last opportunity to show us that it could perform better and easier than using the broom and pan method.
We ordered and received it in a few days. It was very simple to put together, needing only a phillips head screwdriver to attach the handle.
The first use was very impressive! We charged the battery and the Linx picked up everything in its path, easily transitioning from hardwood floors to carpet, picking up the good ole wind blown Kansas dust and dirt. We have pets and it also does an EXCELLENT job of picking up pet hair from carpet, rugs and hardwood floors.
The battery life is satisfactory for what we need it for, and lasts much longer than the other types that we have used in the past. There is no let-down on the battery operation either. It runs full speed until the battery is run down, continuing to clean at 100% through the entire cycle. Simply pop the battery out and onto the charger and it is ready for the next round in a few hours. We went ahead and purchased a second battery to have on hand in case we needed it to finish the job, but have yet to have to switch them out mid-job.
The bagless feature of trapping the dirt and hair is great and is easy to dump when the job is complete. It also allows you to see what you've picked up.
Overall, this by far is the BEST cordless vaccuum we have used and it does a GREAT job! After going through so many cheaper devices, I only wish that we would have found this one first, rather than last! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for areas with hardwood floors and tile, and areas that transition from hardwood floors to carpet! A great daily cleaning tool!
Thanks to our neighbors and to Hoover! MT Rocks!

Damages hard floors. Please be aware!
Posted by: HippyWoman from: Chatsworth, CA on
This vacuum got some stellar reviews. I mean, just look at the 5 star ratings. That's why I decided to purchase this unit.
I am not a disgruntled person posting a negative review for the heck of it. I got this machine home and it damaged my hardwood floors right out of the box.
I'm not posting this review about the motor, the suction power or overall performance. This review is only for people that are buying this unit to use on hard wood or tile floors. The bottom of the unit has two sturdy rubber wheels, but there are also two small hard plastic wheels on the under side. they rake across the floor when the unit is in use. Not only that, but the only thing keeping the whole thing from dragging directly onto the floor are teeny, tiny little bristles on the border of the unit. These might as well be for decoration.
You can literally hear the dragging plastic across the floor when you roll it. This is a real issue. It scratched my wood floors, and I just paid over 18k for them. I'm posting this review for people with hard floors. If you do go ahead and purchase this machine, please inspect the bottom of your vacuum before you use it. You'll see and hear what I'm talking about. I did not get a lemon, this is a design flaw that can really cause damage.
I've posted a photo in the customer photos section of this item, so that you can see what I'm talking about. I'm contacting Hoover to see if they'll pay for my damaged floor, but I doubt I'll have any luck. If you're just using this for carpet, you'll probably be fine. Be careful otherwise.

Unlike the 9 volt Electrolux Pronto, this thing actually does what it was designed to do--cleaning kitchen or hardwood floors quickly and easily. Also, picks up the cookie crumbs on carpets just as your guests are ringing the doorbell. (You still need a wired vacuum for properly cleaning your carpets and rugs, but this is great for surface debris.) A pleasure to use--causes me to vacuum quickly and often throughout the week.
Be real about the battery, people. It's life is short because it produces strong suction at 18 volts. After the first charge of 3 hours, it takes now about 90 minutes to recharge. I get 4-5 uses in the kitchen before recharging. That's more than a week and not an annoyance at all.
Have had this five/six weeks and consider the money well-spent. Best Buy had the best price on the web during a sale.

great little vacuum!
Posted by: babymamaNYC from: new york, ny on
We have 2 dogs and are expecting a baby any day so we needed a vacuum that was light and easy to use everyday. We have a full size vacuum that works great but is really heavy and made vacuuming our small apt a huge task. The linx is great for everyday vacuuming to keep the dust and pet hair under control in between the big vacuuming days. It's small and light so it's super easy to use but has enough power to get most of the dust and pet hair, even from carpet. I'm 38 weeks pregnant and vacuum everyday! It makes vacuuming super easy! The power is pretty good for a stick vac. I was initally looking at the electrolux but realized it has the same power as my hand held kurv (those tiny hand held vacs). The linx has about twice that power. I don't really know how much dirt it really picks up but the canister fills up with tons of hair and dust everytime I vacuum so I'm guessing it's doing it's job. Clearly it's not meant to replace your full size vacuum but it keeps us from having to pull out our giant vacuum every day. The battery life is decent although not great. It lasts long enough to vacuum our 1 bedroom apt twice before having to charge it again. That's fine for us since we can get 2 good runs before having to recharge. If you have a bigger home, you have want to consider getting an extra battery. I also love how the power switch is on the handle. It's super convenient! You can turn the vacuum on and off or switch from regular mode to brush roll with just the flick of your thumb.
My only complaint is that I wish it was a little slimmer so it goes under furniture better. The canister makes it too fat to reach under my couch and bed, which is where a lot of the dust is. It's also a bit costly for a stick vac but definitely worth it if you need to vacuum everyday and can't be bothered with constantly having to pulling out a giant, heavy vacuum.
Before getting pregnant, I probably only vacuumed a couple times a year (no joke--I hate vacuuming) but now I vacuum everyday. This little vac is great!

problems with the brush
Posted by: qwertyytrewq from: hoover on
it was my 2nd that had the same problem. after a while the brush stops rotating. nothing blocks the motion. it is a problem of wiring between the battery and the brush.

low run time
Posted by: vacalert from: Dayton, OH on
This first time I used it it ran about 10 min on a full charge; Hoover service number says this is the norm, although it appears nowhere in the product info. After 4 months use, it won't recharge at all

Not good enough for the $$
Posted by: neatfreak3000 from: Alexandria, VA on
This vacuum cleaned pretty well, but no better than my Shark Stick Vac. The Shark battery lasts about 12 minutes for me, depending on what surfaces and speeds I use. This one lasted about 14 minutes. 2 more minutes for $100 more dollars about about the same cleaning power????? That's no deal.
I did like the big cleaning head and the look of the unit, but it's just not what I was expecting for the $$

Decent vacuum, nice features
Posted by: from: San Diego, CA on
I rated this vacumm as if I had paid the $200 (or so) list price. I actually recieved it free with my $1000+ refrigerator purchase. Being free, I have no complaints, but having paid the asking price, I would have been a bit disssapointed, mainly ONLY due to the poor transition from hardwood to carpet. Everything else works great. It vacumms well on hardwood. It vacuums well on carpet. It just does not transition well. Good battery life, quick charge. No cords is GREAT! I give it an "OK" rating based on the asking price.

Hmmm about the battery - seems like a lot of work
Posted by: Linda from: on
Just got my new linx cordless. Love it and was amazed at the amount of pet hair and debris it picked up. Within the first charge, I had to empty the cup twice. Now the not so good part - I found out you really shouldn't leave the battery in the charger beyond 3 hours. Now I'm panicking over that. It's the last thing on my mind to have to wonder about the battery and whether I took it out of the charger. If you don't, it runs the battery down faster. I really hate having to watch a clock or even remember something as mundane as a battery. Hmmmm...... really negative on this part. My other stick vac had a battery, but I left it in the charger all the time. I thought the lithium battery would be better. Recommending to a friend? I was mixed on this. Nix for babysitting a battery - I got better things to do - but a yaay for the cleanup of floors and rugs.
