Hoover WindTunnel Air Bagless Canister Vacuum: This lightweight canister vacuum cleans a variety of surfaces. Its brushroll switches effortlessly between carpet and hardwood floors, and the included 3-in-1 tool gets at the spots that are difficult for standard vacuums to reach.

Bought it on December 2015. At the time of purchase did not see reviews about overheating, so decided I wouldn't purchase extended servicing.
During my first use it stopped, I let it cool, did not work. Then I read the instructions - it says the vacuum has an overheating feature, and after 30min it stops it should be able to work again, provided you clean it. I cleaned it and it worked, but only for 6-7 min and it stopped again. At first I thought it has to do with an possible power surge, but the manual was clear it was build like that - to stop. Since then had the same problem again and again. Work time also varies - 6 min or 20min.
I was advised to take it to a Hoover service, but I also think that buyers need to know they buy a vacuum that is built to stop due to overheating, as per page 8 of the instructions, and that you should wait for 30min to start cleaning again, etc, etc.
In fairness, it has two very positive sides, the suction was very good and in combination with brush it worked miracles.
The conclusion is, however, that if I knew I wouldn't have bought a vacuum to see it stop in the middle of cleaning, then wait for 30min to restart your cleaning and the fact that it stops soon again is the 2nd reason. This is not how a vacuum should be built in the first place - it should not stop in the first place, if it overheats its a design flaw and should have not been placed on the market, in my opinion - see other brands that do the job from the beginning to the end. I had to pull out my old shabby vacuum to clean it. I can not use the new one effectively.
I think Hoover would better recall this model and take responsibility.

Good points and then other ideas

Best Buy is the best with delivery. Product arrived before promise date.
While I have decided to keep the vacuum it has not been without hesitation. Keeping in mind, we have 3 rambunctious boys under 7 yrs old-our house is the house all the friends & neighborhood kids go to, a dog and mostly 90% hardwood floors. Used daily.
Easy to clean
Decent on hardwood floors
Great price point
My 3 yr old can use it!! (Even changes attachments)
Not so crazy about:
Not easy to store
No where to store attachments
What I would change:
A different color on the retractable button vs power button
Power button on handle
It has left a few minor easily rubbed out scratches on the floors and is a little difficult to manuver but it gets the job done efficiently. Cleaning the dirt compartment is easy and should be done frequently.
Overall I kept it because it's a good price point and is really effective at its job. While it's not doing heavy duty work, it is used frequently.

This vacuum sucks... In a good way.

This machine has a VERY powerful 12 Amp motor, and therefore has exceptional suction. I have not experienced any of the overheating problems that I have read about. I think the main thing is to not allow the exhaust outlet which is located in the wheel, to be blocked by rolling it too close to walls and such. Also, be sure to clean the pre-filter and dust cup parts out periodically.
The vacuum has a very compact and lightweight design. Easy to empty dust-cup and easy to clean washable dust-cup pre-filter. The HEPA replacement filters are reasonably priced and readily available for this model on Hoover's website, although it's only necessary to replace the HEPA filter once every year or so. Replacement washable pre-filters are also available if needed.
The power brushroll has plenty of power, and does not get bogged down by carpet. It has a separate switch on the handle that allows you to turn off the brushroll when desired.
If the cord could be about 3 feet longer it would be much more usable, at least in my house. I ALMOST get to the far corner of a room and gently struggle for that LAST little bit by stretching the hose and extension in almost horizontal position without pulling the plug loose from the outlet in the other room, but it just wont QUITE reach the far corner without it unplugging and having to go change outlets... Like 1 more foot would make it all the way with the hose stretched! Very frustrating!
It comes with an excellent hard-floor brush. However, I highly recommend buying a cheap crevice tool and dusting brush on Amazon or something to replace the multi-tool that comes with the vacuum. (They really should have included separate tools for each purpose instead of making a combined tool that doesn't do anything very well.) The multi-tool and the cord length are about the only real problems I have with this machine. This easily-remedied limitation certainly does not justify paying $200 more for a Dyson.

Let me start by saying that this vacuum was purchased to replace a Hoover Wind Tunnel canister vacuum that I had for more than ten years and loved. I assume that this model is the smaller updated version of my old machine as the style is very similar. I have used the vacuum several times now and the power is impressive-I have several animals and the vacuum picks up all the pet hair on both the wood floors and area rugs on the first pass. Just like my older version, this vacuum has the detachable wand which gives you the ability to clean corners, curtains, ceiling fans, etc, The canister is easy to remove and clean-love not having to bother with vacuum bags! The only con I can think of is that the vacuum seems a bit less sturdy than my old one-many of the parts are now plastic and the hose seems shorter. Over-all I am VERY happy with my purchase and would recommend the vacuum to others. P.S. This is the 4th Hoover vacuum I have owned and I have always been impressed with them. Their customer service staff are friendly and helpful as well.

Very good vacuum. Great price

In the past I have had the Dyson (over rated for the price) and a Shark vacuum. When my Shark went out I purchased the Hoover Wind Tunnel and can actually say that this vacuum is as good a quality as the other two, and a better price. I will definitely recommend purchasing this vacuum to anyone looking to spend way too much on a Dyson.

Love this small vacuum.

I needed a canister small jobs and around baseboards as I don't like to switch back and forth with my upright when I am cleaning. This vacuum was a great choice. It is compact but has great suction. It is easy to move and lightweight when doing stairs.

For a longer period of time i was looking for a perfect vacuum cleaner, "bagless and canister one" to replace my old "upright" VC. I did a extended online research and went for a Hoover Windtunnel Air Bagless canister SH40070. Since i do love Best Buy and am faithful to my locals, i ordered my online and picked up and my local BB on Atlantic Ave. The stuff was amazing, i got all the help and support. My new Hoover is excellent, great performance, lightweight, with air tunnel technology, steerable and versatile for all your multi-floor surfaces. And the tool attachments and multi floor power nozzle give you freedom and cleaning access a most traditional upright vacuum just can’t reach. Ease of assembly, and suction power. However there are a few amazing functions which i like like the setting controls right on the handle and no bags and easy to empty, long telescopic handle and Excellent fast cord retraction with a touch of a toe and on/off switch same deal. In overall its fun and easy to use, even to vacuum all pet hairs after our Chihuahua. Highly recommended!

Bought unit w/extended warranty as a gift in October, 2014 for a family member. Liked size and weight. Unit burnt up within a month. Sparks came off motor. Called Hoover. Advised to take to service center. Was told brush holders were defective. Service tech was unfamiliar with claim filing so process was delayed two weeks. It is now three months later and still waiting on replacement. Customer service says they are out of stock. Totally disappointed with Hoover.

a lot of vacuuming power

a little cumbersome to use, such as changing of attachments. Attachments don't attach to the unit. Hoses and attachments made of somewhat cheaper plastic. Not easy to detach and attach components. Great suction power and lightweight.
