Designed for use with most analog TVs and recording devices, this Insignia™ NS-DXA2 box converts digital broadcast signals into analog signals, so you can enjoy a variety of programming. The remote simplifies operation.
This is a piece of junk!!!

Poor workmanship, does not scan local stations, manual is online - overall, even if they paid me to use this again - they can keep their money!!!

I gave up cable and switched to a converter
Posted by: JLBro32 from: Chicago, IL on
I've always had cable since the switch from analog TV to digital, so I didn't know what to expect. So far the converter (along with an antenna) has been great for tv watching.

It is very competent
Posted by: JKEIIT96 from: Chicago IL on
When I first bought an Insignia Digital TV Converter box, it proved capable of receiving all channels and even a few more that I didn't know existed. This new Insignia wasn't quite as capable as that old Insignia Digital Converter, but was better than RCA, and a few other off brands I bought for myself, and also my brother. You MUST get a high quality POWERED antenna, and your cables MUST be of top quality in order to make the thing work. Connecting to a VCR proved troublesome, as you had to have the VCR the converter, and the TV on in order to watch TV at all.

No favorites/channel delete
Posted by: GlennRobinson from: Albuquerque, NM on
Pain in the butt!
Using the channel up/down button -- the most common method of channel surfing -- you have to scroll through every single channel to find one you want.
With my older, cheaper model Insignia I could delete all the religious, home shopping and Spanish channels. With this model I cannot. Channel surfing takes forever.
I'm returning it.

Offers more options than RCA
Posted by: NCGurl from: NC on
I got this expecting the basics that RCA provided-just to get basic local channels with basic options for display. I can get ION and QVC/ other shopping channels as well as Bounce TV. The the volume button on the remote (for the converter) actually works (it didn't work with RCA)! Lower the volume on your tv remote and raise the volume on the converter remote for crisper sound. When flipping channels it displays what program is on and underneath it lists the program that is coming up next. I paired this with the same brand basic antenna and find stronger results than with the RCA brand. Of course results depend on where you are located but I do find that this converter offers more in configuration. Check mark the "Recognize Daylight Savings Time" box for the most accurate time, if applicable. A real good buy to access good tv.

Cheaper than cable
Posted by: hwhp from: Milwaukee, WI on
Since the price of cable is so high and just not worth that expense to me a one time cost for purchase didn't break my pocket book and I can still get a lot of channels.

Don't buy this
Posted by: EmJay from: Pittsburgh PA on
The first one I bought (when over the air channels changed) was also by Insignia and it worked well, so when it stopped working I went back to Best Buy and bought the only model they had in the store. It was also Insignia so I bought it having had a decent experience with the first. The first problem is that you cannot connect component cables so the picture is junk. The signal is terrible even though I'm using the same antennae that used to perform pretty well. The other big problem is the options on the remote. To see what the other stations are pulling in you have to go into the menu which then mutes the sound. There is no "last" button nor a "favorite" button. How would the first box available be the more evolved of the two?

Very easy to set up to my old box television. Even got the VCR setup with it. Remember to turn off the converter box in order to see VHS movies

This converter was really easy to set up, the remote is simple and I love that the device turns itself off if not in use for a while. It's also great to have a channel & program guide available.

Hook it up and plug it in, simple to use. Best Buy has the lowest price for this product.
