Good sound, can charge your devices
Posted by: Brian1118 from: Paramount, CA on
One of the reasons I bought this speaker is that at the time I got it, there were no reviews, so I wanted to take the plunge to see if I could recommend this device to other people.
My conclusion is that if you don't mind undetailed bass and don't need speakerphone / call answering capability, that this is a good bluetooth speaker.
The mids and highs are good, and the bass is decent and has some detail (unlike most bluetooth speakers in this price range) and the sound quality is good, in my opinion. The bass is there, but doesn't overpower the rest of the mix, and the sound goes pretty loud if you need it to. The speaker is also splash resistant (although the manual says not to expose it to to water) and has a rubber flap covering the charging port, 3.5mm jack and other inputs to help it be splash-resistant.
The key feature of this bluetooth speaker is that it can charge your other devices, and has a usb port that you can plug chargers in. It has a massive battery that provides up to 30 hours of play time, which is what it uses to charge devices. To do that, you open up the rubber flap, flip the switch to "charge" (there are 3 settings: on, off, and charge) and plug in a usb charger.
Due to having that massive battery, this device is surprisingly heavy (although not overly so), and I would bet that it's one of the reasons why it can get as loud as it does.
Personally, I ended up returning this speaker for one with better bass detail and quality, but I'm a bit of an audiophile and can be picky, and feel that most people wouldn't notice or care. What I feel many people would care about however is the lack of speakerphone capability. If you need to answer phone calls with your speaker, this one can't do that. However, if you just want big sound with a long battery life and the ability to use your speaker as a portable power bank (albeit a big and heavy one), this speaker may be for you.
If you need more portability, the ability to answer phone calls, and/or better sound quality (albeit probably not quantity) you may want to consider other speakers in this price range, like the Samsung Level Box Mini (recently reduced to $50 from $100) which has excellent sound quality, but is not water resistant and is smaller and has lower battery life. Another options is a good all-rounder like the iHome Go+ Arc which is water resistant, can answer phone calls, and has slightly better bass (imo) than this speaker, but a lower battery life. Neither of those 2 can charge other devices however.

Great for the money

This Insignia bluetooth speaker is fantastic for the money. I got it on sale for under $30. According to Best Buys website, the details says it only has 1 speaker. It is in fact a stereo speaker, thus I can confirm it has 2 drivers for mids/highs and 2 passive radiators for bass.
The sound quality is excellent (again, for the money - don't expect Bose sound) for what is is. It has good mids/highs and has decent bass. The bass isn't as accurate or refined as in most higher end systems, but it is there and sounds good.
Although it doesn't have a mic for answering phone calls, it can be used as a speaker for calls. Instead, it contains a large internal battery for charging other devices via a USB jack in the back. It also has a mini USB for charging the speaker itself, and a mini-aux input for other devices that lack bluetooth. The bluetooth version listed in the manual is version 4.0, but it does not contain NFC. Under normal use, I had no issues with reception up to 30 feet away. Beyond 40 ft, I got connection hiccups. Because of the large internal battery, it weighs more than a typical speaker of its size. I did get about 18 hours of listening time before the battery died.
It is water resistant, but not waterproof, so avoid getting wet if possible. Most of the speaker is surrounded by a rubber/plastic casing surrounding the buttons and inputs/outputs.
If you're looking for a great bluetooth speaker bargain, you won't find better than this.

The inexpensive speaker packs sound. What differentiates this speaker from the small one is the Power Bank. So you don't have to keep it plugged in. Awesome inexpensive speaker.

This speaker is loud enough to compete with the JBL charge and the beats pill, for a fraction of the price!

Model - ns-spbtbrick-c...
It sells new for $49.99, I got it on sale, 1/2 price...
Wasn't sure what to expect.... Even with reading reviews before purchase, I didn't have high expectations... I have purchased larger and more expensive Bluetooth speakers in the past, and have returned them... VERY pleased with the sound, and no problems with Bluetooth connection... I have had for about 2 weeks now and I think it's AWESOME... Takes the sound of my iPad to a different level... And I am picky when it comes to listening to music..
Btw- so satisfied I would have paid full price, but always good to get a GREAT deal...
All this from someone who doesn't write many reviews.......

"It changed my life"

I've given these as gifts and that was one friend's comment. I have to agree. True, they were our first Bluetooth speakers, but this is a great, sturdy little device that rarely needs charging, even after 10 months of use. It has surprisingly good stereo sound and a bodaciously bountiful battery that lasts and lasts. Based on some brief and completely unscientific in-store tests, the sound quality seemed comparable to others 2 or 3 times the price, just with a little less bass. The rubberized exterior, rear port cover, and ability to charge other devices are other great touches. Plus, this has more function buttons than many of those higher priced speakers. It would be nice if the beeps weren't quite so loud - you hear them when powering it on/off, adjusting volume in Bluetooth mode, and when the battery is low. Also the included USB cable is laughably short. But these are minor annoyances. When this speaker is on sale it cannot be beat for the price, and even when it's not I still recommend it. Rock on, friends!

Decent sound but it kept losing blue tooth connection. The battery charge didn't last long a couple hours.

Awesome little speaker for the money
Posted by: wephaus from: Piney Woods on
My husband bought this speaker for me for an "after Christmas" gift. Used it for the first time today during my workout routine. For the money, it's a powerful little speaker with great features. Easy to recharge using our home computer, which is a plus vs speakers that require batteries. Great sound, really pumps out the tunes from my phone. Definitely a super addition to our home office area and it will get a lot of use. I'm sure there are better speakers for more money, but this one will do the job for us! :-)
