Overview

Synopsis

Investigative Reports: The Shattered Mind
This documentary, part of the Investigative Reports series from the A&E cable network, delves into the world of schizophrenia. Narrated by Investigative Reports host and producer Bill Kurtis, this episode shows how patients, if medicated, can lead normal and productive lives. Once off their medication, though, they can cause harm to themselves and to others. Even with all that is known about this mysterious disease, patients can still, by law, refuse all forms of aid. Investigative Reports interviews two schizophrenic patients, one of whom has had trouble dealing with the side effects of the medications and another who has adjusted to the medicine. Marty Cohen used to suffer from this debilitating disease but once he found the proper medication, he again gained control of his life. Aaron Millar's experience was much different, since he continuously refused to take his medication. There is also an interview with Dr. Fuller Torrey who talks about the physical and mental aspects of this disease. ~ Cecilia Cygnar, Rovi
