A French doctor arrives in the Aurès Mountains of North Africa after serving nearly a decade on the front lines, attempting to regain his humanity as the region falls prey to a devastating plague. The year is 1895. Dr. Maxime Vincent has seen things on the battlefield that he'll never be able to forget, and it's beginning to look like he never will; shortly after Dr. Vincent arrives at a remote colony in the Sahara, the French colonist army shows up and begins brutalizing the indigenous population. As some flee the city in fear of their lives, Dr. Vincent befriends a young boy, and begins looking for a way out. Diametrically opposed to Dr. Vincent's humanistic empathy for the locals, remorseless Captain Julien Mandel conducts the occupation with ruthless efficiency. Later, as signs of a plague begin to emerge and Dr. Vincent's caravan fails to appear, the battle-weary medico must make a decision to follow his instincts and flee, or stay behind to help the very people his country has declared the enemy. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
