Legendary Lighthouses: Western Great Lakes and South Atlantic documents many beautiful and life-saving towers of light. Great Lake Superior and Lake Michigan are home to hundreds of historic lighthouses. In this region, the program focuses on the wild and remote Isle Royal National Park and the more accessible Apostles Islands National Park. The video also transports viewers to certain lighthouses which stand as centerpieces of the dangerous and dynamic shoreline stretching from the Outer Banks of North Carolina to the Lands End of Key West. Intelligent commentary provides viewers with interesting information on the form and function of the lighthouse. ~ Betsy Boyd, Rovi
Legendary Lighthouses: North Atlantic and Maine
Legendary Lighthouses: North Atlantic and Maine documents the luminous beauty and importance of lighthouses of the northeastern United States. The program delivers viewers to the North Atlantic, where lighthouses originated, to explore the charm of Cape Cod and Chesapeake Bay, as well as the coast of Maine, where more than 60 lighthouses dot the shoreline. Video commentary educates viewers on the day-to-day activity of lighthouses, while quality cinematography captures the glowing, towering structures. ~ Betsy Boyd, Rovi
Legendary Lighthouses: California and Pacific Northwest
The rugged, rocky Pacific coast of California, Washington, and Oregon is beautiful, but particularly treacherous for ships and boats in bad weather or in conditions where thick fog occludes visibility. Together, these two episodes in the PBS series Legendary Lighthouses chronicle the history of lighthouses on the United States West Coast, including the economic and geographic issues involved in building them. Highlights include archival photos and current footage of lighthouses in this region, as well as interviews with historians and lighthouse operators. The programs were produced by Driftwood Productions, Inc. and WPSX-TV/Penn State for viewers of 7th grade age to adult. ~ Steve Blackburn, Rovi
