Most cubic feet for a top-freezer unit
Posted by: Goose007 from: on
It took awhile to get used to having no door handles and just grooves instead which are easier to get dirty. The factory settings for temperature are spot-on. The sound of the unit running is not horrible and does not have a high-pitch fan sound like another brand we tried. But it does make substantial sound. I guess all the modern ones do now since they run more often due to efficiency standards. I actually like the lighting and think it's pretty. It is not too dark to find things as some people have said as long as you have a kitchen light on. The exterior back of the unit is very well made and sturdy. It is solid top to bottom. The butter container is way too small but the shelf-drawer is great and easily stores numerous small packages. The control panel hangs down from the freezer compartment into the middle of the fridge and takes up valuable space of the top shelf unfortunately. That is what I dislike the most. And also the placement of the vents which are hard to keep from being blocked which you must adhere to to make it run properly. We removed the ice maker which we don't need to make more usable space. Overall I like this refrigerator and studied many reviews and specs before settling on this brand and model.

A PROTRUDING NIPPLE - too tight thru doorway
Posted by: Guitartec from: on
I bought this LG fridge in January 2016. It has been quite an improvement over our last fridge. I am a repairman (not refrigerator), so I tend to see what's wrong with things before I see what's right with them. Here's what I see.
-The LED lighting is wonderful, although LG should have designed it with some LEDs on the ceiling of the fridge as well as the ones they put on the sides. This would help light up the backs of the glass shelves, as they are a bit dark, but still okay.
-The LEDs in the freezer are a joy.
-There's a lot of room in both sections.
-It's dead quiet.
-No height issues with the fridge door, as other have commented about the door hitting their foot upon opening bit.
-I feel the extended warranty is not necessary, but my wife made me get it. Even still, $124.59 was not a bad deal for a renewable 5 year warranty. I almost hope it breaks!
CONs... This is going to sound worse than it actually is...
-The butter holder is not big enough to hold all our butter products and it's not moveable.
-Unlike the fridge door, I can't get the freezer door to close automatically. There is a slight alignment issue that causes the freezer door to have a detent in its smooth open/close swing. This keeps the door from closing automatically, no matter how high I adjust the front legs.
-The two front legs are adjustable for height, but they don't go high enough and the right one is positioned right next to a roller, so it's much more difficult to turn with the wrench than the other front leg.
-This last thing upsets me. We have an old home. The doorways are tight, so I MADE ABSOLUTE SURE we had enough room to get this fridge into our kitchen with the fridge doors removed as well as my living room door removed. I even discussed this potential issue with the salesperson. She assured me it would fit. I must have checked and rechecked the measurements 10 times, 10 different ways just to be certain.
So, the delivery guys show up exactly when they're supposed to. The head guy comes in to my home via the same path I planned the fridge to come through. He immediately says "it won't fit". I said "you're kidding, why?". He said "the nipple for the ice maker's water inlet sticks out an extra inch in the back and it won't clear the doorway... they don't tell ya that in the dimensions". I said "how can that be?". Well he was right, so I spent the next 15 minutes removing doors and clearing a much longer pathway to the kitchen through our porch.
IMPORTANT TIP; REMEMBER TO ALLOW FOR ONE ADDITIONAL INCH OF CLEARANCE (FRONT TO BACK) NOT SHOWN ON THE LG DIMENSION SPEC CHART FOR THIS REFRIGERATOR.
Even with these small negatives I've mentioned, I think this LG refrigerator will become an old friend very soon. It's the sexiest appliance we own. I will plumb it for the ice maker in the following months and keep this review updated (if it lets me edit it). CONSIDER THIS FRIDGE!

LG Could be Cooler
Posted by: CindyLou from: on
I bought this for my mother and it is a beautiful refrigerator. However, it must be turned to the coldest setting to maintain an average cool temp in both the freezer and the refrigerator. The shelving system is great and the LED lights are BRIGHT!! I would like to recommend this to a friend with the caveat that it might have to run hard to stay as cold as you might like.

the first unit they delivered didn't hold temp
Posted by: jmjohn from: Worcester Ma on
nice looking refrigerator, the delivery crew were great. the unit didn't hold temp I set the level; on 3 both fridge and freezer and the temp was over 44 degrees Fahrenheit. I went up to 4 and it still was 44 degrees I moved the temp to the highest (5) and the temp was still 40 degrees.
no matter what level I set the freezer was never able to get below 5 degrees.
I called and had that fridge removed and replaced however I'm still seeing high temps on the second one, set the level at 4 and only hitting 40 degrees in fridge and 0 in freezer.
I may call and return this one too.
Not happy having lost $100 in food on the first one.

LG refrigerators have bad warranty support
Posted by: PhilipK from: on
I purchased this refrigerator based on these reviews. However, after 45 days the defrost cycle doesn't seem to be working. The main compartment must be blocked from air flow by ice and frost build up inside the evaporator area. The freezer is very cold (-15 degrees F.) but the fresh food compartment is around 50 degrees F. It should be below 40.
BestBuy support was nice but said it had been too long and I would have to deal with LG support. BestBuy transferred me to LG support where they asked questions not even relevant to the model I have. After several questions, they suggested I turn the temperature control one level colder and wait a few hours. It had no effect so I called again. After additional questions which were not relevant to the model, they agreed to send a ticket to their scheduling department. They said it would be 3 to 5 days before the scheduling department would get back to me. I'm still waiting to here back. Fortunately for me, I have an old mini refrigerator so I can use that. Perhaps LG should recommend anyone who purchases this refrigerator to have a spare just in case - a warranty service call will likely take several days before they get to you.
Based on my experience with LG support, I will not buy any other LG products again. I only hope my other LG products won't need warranty support.

Bring your own flashlight
Posted by: stunned15 from: on
Bought this LG because of the great lighting. Unfortunately when we put food in it we found you couldn't see anything on the bottom shelf. Anything at the back of the shelves is pretty difficult to find the lighting is so poor. The front of the shelves is very well lit. I would not recommend this refrigerator to anyone who has vision difficulties. I would not recommend this refrigerator to anyone because LG was so rude when I asked about this problem. Their advertising does not show this is a problem. Not having handles makes it ideal for a smaller space. It seems to work just fine. Just can't find anything in it unless you bring your own flashlight. LG says that is the way it is. There are other brands out there that will fit smaller spaces that don't need a flashlight as an accessory.

Modern look to traditional refrigerator
Posted by: seymour5000 from: Kentucky on
This is my first LG product. I had an emergency replacement need and limited cabinet and door space. This was instock and on the showroom floor. I loved the modern look for a traditional freezer top style. The LED lights are awesome and are in the freezer section too. The ice maker is easy to set up and use. The amount of room is amazing! At first I was disappointed I could not move the door shelves but once I got everything in there was not a need to move them around. Everything fit great and better than my last model (and it had moveable, split shelves). This has been my favorite refrigerator thus far. Simple, clean, modern, and extremely roomy.

This fridge is very nice and roomy. It looks very nice in my kitchen. I love this fridge. The shelves in the door are quite roomy and hold a lot... even big containers of milk. The vegetable drawers hold a TON of stuff. There seems to be room everywhere.

Good choice for average home
Posted by: buddybuy9 from: on
Quiet, cools very well. It is roomy so will need some baskets to organize jars and bottles. The LED lights are a little harsh and along the front, but illuminate reasonably well. Easily repositioned so no excuse to not clean behind this refrigerator!
