Worth working 60 hours a week to afford!!!

I have been postponing purchasing a new washer/dryer for years because I am so dirt poor. I finally had to give in a few weeks ago after my beloved 2001 Kenmore Elite washing machine cleaned its final load and died. This washing machine has been life changing. I am an extremely busy lady working two jobs as an RN, going to school full time, and raising two children alone. There is not a dime to spare for luxurious expensive appliances, but I would buy this again in a heart beat. My clothes come out so much cleaner than I ever knew possible and the spin cycle takes nearly every ounce of water out so dry time is so short!!! I have very little extra time in the day to worry about laundry, and now that burden is lifted. I assure you LG is not reimbursing me for this endorsement (although they can if they so desire), but I would gladly do a commercial because I believe in this so much. Sometimes you don't realize the weight of a problem until that problem is solved. With two teenagers in the house we go through an embarrassing amount of dirty clothes but now I can finish the wash in one evening. This machine is quiet, efficient, and user friendly. I am so glad I took the time to read reviews before making a purchase. There is a reason this washer has received so many stars. I am near tears realizing how life changing this product is. Once I save up enough money you can bet I'll be back to buy the matching dryer but genuinely it isn't even a huge concern because the washer has made such an impact. For every butt I've had to wipe, every IV Iv'e had to start, every irritable doctor I've had to calm, I am thankful because I could afford to buy this washing machine. Laundry=solved.

Meet expectation so far, will update as time goes

We pick this model after quite a research to replace our 10 years old Calypso which has been acting up lately. As for any appliance, I would budget about $10/mo cost before looking for the replacement. The Kenmore Elite Calypso meets that objective, both washer and dryer are still OK, however it is cost effective to replace them before the breakdown, especially when the new ones are on sale and have better technology.
We selected this LG model WT1501CW, 4.5 cub.ft this time. It is the WT1101CW on steroid, which has great review from customer and CR.
We add in $90 for extended warranty (reason later on). Best buy did good job deliver on schedule and installation at no charge. Very happy with that service. Peace of mind with all the accessories are brand new with the units.
The washer and dryer function as we expected, the key item is unit leveling on solid floor. That leads to good balance during spinning which reduce noise. This unit run so quietly that we wouldnot notice, the dryer is still noisy noticeably, naturally. Clothes are cleaned and reasonably dry at finishing.
One concern is the control pannel, fact that LG makes it easy to replace it, raise the flag on me. So I bought the extended warranty just for those two insert at the front pannel. I don't know how fast those control buttons would worn out. If you are less than 5'6 like us, you would struggle a bit to get a baby sock at the bottom of the drum while avoid activate the buttons with your tummy. I will watch for mechanical fatigue of this washer because it has lot of reverse motion (induce cyclic fatigue) and wear and tear. Again, good balance would mitigate the mechanical fatigue quite a bit. Hopefully this one would last more than 15 years, but I doubt it.

nice looking machine...average on performance

I researched this machine at great length before buying it. I took the time to read the manual before using the machine. The machine spends in my opinion, way too much time "load sensing" and not enough time washing. In a 52 minute cycle it only washed for 12 minutes. It also makes weird noises on the spin cycle. I disliked it so much, I returned it for the Whirlpool Cabrio. This machine was beautifully quiet on the spin cycle, but sounded like a bucket of bolts on the wash cycle. If I could have mixed the two units together, it would have been perfect. Another issue with the LG is the water level. I have learned to just wash regular loads on the heavy duty load which gives enough water to cover your clothes. Many of the HE washers have the water level issue and you have to adjust your choice of wash cycle to accommodate your personal choice on water levels. Bottom line, the LG vs the Whirlpool, if you don't mind noise, the Whirlpool works as well as the LG. If quieter is your thing, then the LG is the better choice.

Love this washer!

I couldn't wait to get rid of our Kenmore front loaded to replace it with a new HE top loader. Our choice was between an LG and a Whirlpool based on reviews and past experience with other products we've owned. . So far I'm happy with my choice of the LG WT1501CW It's a very quiet work horse and gets our clothes clean. We put it to the test with my husband's work uniforms and it passed with an A+.
Only downfall is that you need to be tall or have long arms to grab the small items (socks) from the bottom after a wash. I'm 5'6 and I have a bit of difficulty but no huge deal.
I love the sleek modern design with the controls towards the front.

Good choice for first time HE washer buyers

Do reach into the tub before purchase as I have to reach in from the side to get the clothing at the bottom of the tub. Tub will rotate so you can bring the clothes to you but if your reach is short you will have issues. I have enjoyed using this washer. I love the automatic load sensing so there is no need to guess at load size. I love the dispenser for the fabric softener. It has an exceptional load capacity which allowed me to wash my queen sized comforter. We've done about 45 to 50 varying sized loads and the only time I have an issue is when I forget to select fabric softener when choosing washing options. If you haven't used an HE washer yet, you will erroneously use too much soap. LESS IS MORE. Love using less soap. It will suds so no worries. We have only had one load balancing issue which the machine told us about and it was just a matter of moving the clothes around. We have only needed to do one machine cleansing cycle (we used the bleach option instead of purchasing a specialized cleaner). We only did the cleansing as it was recommended after 30 washes. No smells before or after cleansing. We leave lid open to help with this issue. Not everyone may be able to do that. I have enjoyed doing laundry with this machine. It does not feel like a chore.

Worst washer ever!
Posted by: Kandi from: on
When I bought this washer 2 1/2 years ago, it worked wonderful. I absolutely loved it. After about a year and a half it started saying "uE" on almost every load. Now I can't get through a day of laundry without waiting sometimes 4 hours while I have to rearrange every load several times. I must run a "tub clean" after only a few loads, so at least 1-2/week. It is very frustrating and upsetting merely washing laundry because this machine has made a simple task so extremely difficult. Rearranging load after load is not only tedious but also strenuous when lifting and moving soaking wet clothes that are 1/2 way through a wash cycle. I have called customer service several times and they go over everything and tell me that the machine is fine and I'm using too much detergent. I use less than a tablespoon of HE detergent. I also was told that I need to wash larger loads as the smaller loads would cause "UE" codes. My husband and I have also releveled this machine several times but NOTHING seems to help. DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE!!! It will work great but then cause you such grief and frustration.

I read the reviews before purchasing this washer and the negative ones made me think twice, but since there were more positives I decided to purchase it and I am so glad I did.
This machine is NOT loud at all. In fact, it positively purrs. I am so happy with that aspect since my laundry room is near my bedroom. A couple of people said the clothes were sopping wet when finished and I've not had that experience. In fact, they are so dry they hardly take any time in the dryer. Load the machine properly, folks, and you'll have no problems. READ the manual, that will help a lot.
My only negative comment is about the design of the machine. The computer controls are in a really lousy place (on the front of the machine). The tub is quite deep, so to load clothes I have to lean against the machine to put them in the tub and invariably I hit the buttons, starting the process. Although this is a design flaw, in my opinion, it's not enough for me to give the machine less than 5 stars. One other thing to take note of is that this machine washes HUGE loads of laundry and I'm now considering buying a larger capacity dryer to accommodate them. Buy this washer. You won't be sorry.

I love this washing machine!

I read a lot of reviews on this washer and I love it as much as many others. I strongly considered purchasing a more expensive model (you get what you pay for) but I got every penny's worth with this one! The controls are easy to understand and my clothes are the cleanest I've ever experienced from any washing machine. I confirm the height issue when unloading the drum. I'm 5'-5" and cursed with T-rex arms so I have some difficulty when that last pesky sock is left on the bottom but I manage just fine. That's not enough to take anything away from this machine. I live alone and the capacity is more than ample for my needs, including a queen size comforter. It should easily accommodate a family of 2-3. A few reviewers comment about the automatic water level being too low so I always hit the "water plus" button and I've had no issues. I'm exceptionally happy with my purchase and would recommend this item to anyone! The Best Buy delivery and installation guys were also top notch!

Worst appliance I have ever owned!
Posted by: Doodlemom from: on
I would love to give this Zero stars but that is not an option. This washing machine has been the biggest headache. Firstly, it was recalled so they came out and replaced the mother board. Than after about six months it started going off balance no matter what the load size. Had to rebalance the machine and rerun the load from the beginning. LG came out FIVE times. Now the machine is dead. And they are still not doing anything about it. My family and I have had to take time off from work for all of their non service calls. Spoke with LG customer service, they are the worst. No help from them. The service guy came out took a picture and left. LG has no customer service as far as I am concerned. Due to this experience I would NEVER buy another LG product... No matter how good the deal is.
Best Buy is trying to help me out with this and i highly recommend them.

Not my best purchase, good but not great

We replaced our 15 year old Fisher-Paykel with the LG because the F-P was not easily available and the LG had great ratings. I would recommend the LG but with conditions. It may be the HE mentality but we must use the extra water feature to actually properly wet the clothes. Also, the HE is not for washing speed but only for less water and detergent usage. It is very large and holds lots of clothes but takes much, much longer than the F-P 50 minutes to wash. The spin cycle alone is normally over 30 minutes. It is rather complicated to use with many new rules and considerations. It makes clothes washing more of a training mission rather than just throwing them in and getting it done. The clothes do come out clean and it is far more quiet than than the previous model. It does appear to be a very sturdy model and we anticipate a long life in our home. I think the LG is a good model and will last us a long time but must confess that we miss our F-P.
