Excellent 40" 1080p flat screen LED for the price
Posted by: papi from: on
Bought this on "Deal of the Day" for $200, a very competitive price for a name brand 40" 1080p LED set. Easy, straightforward setup. Nice stable stand (not the little "feet"). Excellent picture quality and sound right out of the box on standard settings. My only slight complaint (and it is minor) is that the viewing angle is not as good as my older plasma set, but this is "normal" for LCD/LED sets. Overall, excellent TV set for the price!

great picture but missing important stuff
Posted by: ozben from: on
I bought this tv because it was cheap and was a brand name tv. The picture is very good for the price, nothing to complain about. However, there are a couple things missing that really shouldn't be. First and foremost, no audio out. None whatsoever!!! There is no way to output the sound to anything. Not a sound bar, headphones or audio system. I don't get that. I know this is a cheap tv, but come on. Really they couldn't include an audio out connection for $250? Had I known that before I bought it, I would have bought another tv. For the bedroom its good, ur unlikely to need more sound, but for the tv room, sound is really lacking on this model. Has to be turned up to 90% sometimes. Lastly, 2 hdmi ports. This was advertised and I knew this going in, but I still think its so cheap to not have at least three. Remember when older tv's would come with so many ports you didn't know what to do with them? This tv comes with 4. 4. 2 hdmi, 1 coaxial tv connection, and 1 usb. Thats it. For the bedroom its a good purchase.

So far... so amazing

I love this LG TV for a few reasons, but some notable reasons for me are the number of HDMI ports, the remote design, the thin screen border, the sturdiness, and the base (I really dislike "feet" stands). It seems as if all HD TV's these days just can't get the "white" in the picture right... it's always too much white and it never seems to balance no matter how much tweaking you do. But besides that, the sound and picture quality are great. Very happy with this one so far (I've only had it for almost 3 weeks now)... and it's viewed every day for numerous hours.

Picture is great, sound is just OK
Posted by: TimM from: on
I've long been a fan of LG's TVs so when I needed a new TV that's where I looked first. The picture on this is great, but the audio is average. That's to be expected for this price point, but the only reason I docked a star is because there is absolutely 0 audio outputs...no headphone, rca, or optical. In order to upgrade the sound I'd need to either buy something with a HDMI pass through (lots of $$) or an audio de-embedder (another "thing" to put with the TV.) I would have gladly paid extra to have an optical out/headphone jack built in.

Would have been 5 stars, except...

This TV has amazing picture and is a great size and price for a college dorm. There is only one issue, that is the audio. It is not bad but it does not go very loud, (movies I have to watch on 90+). I thought, easy fix, I can just get a soundbar. As it turns out this TV has no audio outputs of any kind for a soundbar or any external speakers. Without internal rewiring, there is no way to hook up a soundbar directly to the TV. This is a pretty big oversight, given the quality of the installed speakers. Aside from that this is a great TV, but if you plan on connecting it to a soundbar be warned, you cannot do so, (unless you want to open up the TV, rewire the speaker outputs to a converter then plug that into the soundbar).

Like the picture quality and the size

The 1080p resolution is great and the 40" size seems perfect for our bedroom. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the colors seemed a little off, and even after we adjusted them, they still look slightly different than our other TV. Not a big deal, still a really nice picture with excellent detail and resolution.

Excellent purchase for home TV needs.

This is our first flat screen TV over 18" in width, and we are pretty happy with it. We're particularly happy we paired it with a Roku stick (which basically makes it a smart TV, since that gives us options like Netflix and what not), and we're also stoked that the sound quality is good enough that we didn't need to a purchase a sound bar. (Trust me, this thing can get LOUD without losing quality or bass.) Between both, our budget was going to be $300 for the size and accessories, which seemed impossible at the time, yet we managed to stay under and get more bang for our buck while sticking to a reputable brand like LG. All and all, awesome purchase.

Decent Picture-Poor Audio-Small Remote- No Optical
Posted by: madjohnny from: on
Got this TV for a medium-sized bedroom. Picture is decent, but my wife and I have a hard time hearing the audio with some channels on full blast. Went looking for a soundbar only to notice it does not have an optical port, which I thought (wrong) were standard these days. I have mitts like a gorilla and eyes like a bat, so I highly recommend a universal remote as this one is tiny. Overall, it may be decent value if hearing is a non issue or in a smaller room.
