Does Not Work
Posted by: wizardfanofpotter from: on
The software to operate this is only good for 30 days. You must pay more each month to subscribe for the software in order to use this device. I just wanted a simple dvd/rom for my laptop. Does anyone know where I can buy a simple DVD.ROM. I only need it to install software for a scanner that I bought.

Not compatible with Windows 10
Posted by: Puterfreak from: on
Do not buy this product if you hope to use it with a Surface Pro 3 using Windows 10. It won't work. I called LG tech support and they do not know if/when it will be compatible with 10.

Couldn't get device to work as instructed.
Posted by: GopherBadger from: St. Paul MN on
Device would not read dvds. Took back to the store and discovered Microsoft has removed the media DVDs player option in Windows 10 so we had to download another app to get device to work. Windows charges for their dvd playing app. Once dvd app was installed device works fine.

Cheap and easy to use disc drive
Posted by: HuskerGod from: on
I bought this to go along with my new iMac. It was under half of the price of the Apple superdrive and works just fine with my mac. Just plugged it in and it worked.

While cleaning my garage I ran across three boxes of old cd's (roughly 400). I decided they were worth the time to upload them to my music library; ...only to find that my old external DVD/CD RW driver was no longer supported by windows 7. I decided to give this product a chance - the price was great; plug & play on mac & pc. I no longer have much use for a disc r/w; but it fits nicely in my backpack; out of the way until the next happenstance. It takes up very little space; about as thin as my ipad. Anyway the project went great & I'm very happy with the purchase; and the new/old music!

Good exterior DVD drive
Posted by: jengel from: Niles, MI on
I would say that this drive is good for what we are using it for. However the software that comes with it requires another license instead of being part of the purchase price of the drive. I refused to pay the license fee for the software as it would not let you burn a cd without the upgrade. I went back to my old standby media player to burn cd's I would recommend the drive just not the software.

OK DVD player as an external drive
Posted by: Donamae from: on
I bought this external drive DVD player soley to play movies on my laptop when traveling. The employee at time of purchased assured me that this work for that purpose. The DVD player worked great until the 30th day when I received a message that my 30 day trial period had expired. I didn't realize I had a 30 day trial period to play movies. And they wanted to charge me a minimum of $59.95 to download the required software. Prior to making this purchase I had to call my IT guy and he downloaded a free software program. The DVD player now works fine. This purchase was very misleading.

The drive is very small and vibrates badly, needs more weight. The software included would not even load on my Windows 10 laptop. Had to return for a different model

Plays DVD - but Microsoft Windows require work aro
Posted by: Bmpls from: on
I was initially very angry with this LG DVD writer/reader. The CiberLink software app that came with the product is very clunky and hard to find answers. I finally found the issue in the Microsoft help community. It required me to get a third party DVD player app, because Windows "will not play DVD movie disks or files due to licensing reasons". Thanks Microsoft. Well, I used "Media Player Classics"; it is a little hard to learn, but once done the DVD read worked fine, and I can not blame LG for this.

Excellent external drive
Posted by: sixstring95 from: on
This is a great external drive. I bought it six months ago to use with my MacBook Pro Retina, which doesn't come with a DVD drive. I've used it to watch a few movies, rip music from CDs, and burn data to DVDs. I've even dropped it on the floor a few times and it's still working great. It's lightweight, so great for carrying around in a bag the few times I've had to do that. Definitely worth the money.
