Perfect Note-Taking Device for Meetings or Lecture

This is the best-kept secret in the world of technology. It is simply amazing! I have been using these pens for several years and am always amazed by what it can do. The Livescribe pen digitally records everything you write and allows you to upload it to your computer, save it in PDF format or have it converted to text, through additional software. In addition, the user can not only take notes, but also record the sound that is being heard as you write. The sound is not only recorded, but also synced to the written text. By later touching a word that you wrote, the audio will play that was being recorded at the moment you wrote that word. This would be invaluable to a student taking notes at college lectures. Both the spoken lecture and the written notes are recorded and synchronized. If you are just starting out, I think you will find the 2gb Pen quite sufficient. If you are a college student, wishing to record each lecture and take notes extensively, the 8gb would be even better. Be aware that you can upload the contents from the pen to your computer and then erase the data in the pen, to give you full storage capacity again. Be aware that with the Livescribe pen, it is necessary to use the special Livescribe paper, which comes in notebooks, journals, pads, etc. One final note: I would grab the replacement warranty since the pen is very sophisticated and I am not sure what would happen if you were to drop it a few times. The peace of mind that the warranty gives is well worth the small price. I highly recommend that you give this a try and with the return policy, if it does not meet your needs, return it. I think you're going to love it like I do.

Great tool for all

The first time I saw this smartpen I got really interested. I'm an engineering student, I take a lot of classes and I have a lot of notebooks I must carry with me most of the time. This smartpen is extremely easy to use, audio recording is perfect and interaction with Evernote makes everything even better. Using Echo smartpen and Evernote, I can access all of my notes thru my smartphone and no longer need to carry weight. Also, whenever I have a doubt I can listen to the class audio recording according to my notes and pick which part i'd like to hear.
It makes life so much easier! I love it and I strongly recommend it.
Important observation: I write a lot and I record every class I take, which is about 3h a day, from monday to friday. I only unload it on weekends, if possible. I have the 2Gb smartpen and it lasts a lot, it's great. I have more than 1 month of audio recordings stored and still half of its capacity available. Battery is good too and must recharge every week, specially if you write a lot and record at the same time.

Why doesn't every student own one?
Posted by: thelastdancer from: Iowa on
I don't understand how I'm the only student I know who owns one of these! This is an essential tool for students who learn by listening. This is one of the few products that I've purchased that works just like it says it will. You turn it on, take notes, and it records audio. When you want to replay the audio, you tap on your notes and it starts playing. The battery life is great. I can usually record 15 hours or so before needing to recharge. 2GB of memory is sufficient. I can go an entire semester without running out of space, and I take 15-18 semester hours.

My notes, my way, loving it!
Posted by: llearyeitniear from: Hesperia, MI on
This is by far the best pen I have ever handled. I use it for everything, from editing my writing, to notes for the next novel, and my adult children love getting notes from Mom in my own handwriting, even though they are printed out on the computer. When my son was in boot camp and I sent him a packet of letters they were lost in the mail, no problem, I just printed them and sent them. I share notes using Evernote with Facebook, Email, and other web apps for different needs. I highly recommend this pen for anyone that loves to write and fears losing important notes!

Must have for the serious student
Posted by: BestBuySuperDude from: South Jordan, UT on
As a pen it is OK. As a recording device it is OK. But as a learning tool that combines both the written notes AND the audio of what was being said while you wrote the note it is AWESOME! Nothing else out there like this!

Great for work and school.

This is my second smart pen and the Echo by far is better quality and easier to use. Charging is easier because there is no docking station so makes it easier to take while traveling.

Great for what it does, it's just too big.
Posted by: HBCANI from: on
This product does exactly what it says. I loved it, I used it in meetings and was able to capture everything. The problem with the Echo Smartpen is that it is too big and it doesn't have a clip to put in your pocket. I would recommend it if you can deal with the bulk.
