Best mouse I have owned in 16 years
Posted by: HappyProgrammer from: on
I have gone through many mice in my 16 years of programming...
I cannot judge battery life as I have owned this mouse less than a month. This review is based on 1 weeks constant use (12-14 hours use per day). I am thrilled with this mouse!
It is a good size, fits nicely in my average, male-sized hands. I like the tactile feedback on the scrollwheel, back and fwd buttons are nicely placed - accessible, but hard to accidently hit. The left and right buttons have a nice microswitch feel too.
The accuracy is top notch on a non-glossy surface. I can correctly hit pixel-width spaces. The software install went without a hitch. I downloaded the latest from Logitech. I am running Win 7 64 bit and have the latest Synaptics and WACOM drivers installed (no contention with driver software).
I was not planning on carrying this mouse to and from work, but I like it so much, that is what I am doing.
Another plus is the software allows customizing mouse buttons per application - I have changed the scroll wheel tilt to control the volume for Windows Media Player. Highly recommended!

Perfect companion for my laptop

After trying out several mice at BestBuy I decided to get the Logitech M510 due to it's ergonomic design. I found the smaller mice hard to hold even for a few seconds. The overall design and feel are great. Connection took seconds! I tried out the downloadable software but found the default button configuration satisfactory on Windows 7. I also like the Logitech Unifying receiver capability so that I would not need to use an additional USB port if I use another compatible device.

Best Mouse EVER!
Posted by: Spanman from: NJ on
I normally don’t write reviews of products, I just rate them, but this mouse I HAD to do a write up for. I never thought a mouse could make this much of an impact. First let me say that if you are getting this mouse for use with any Microsoft product (i.e. word, outlook, excel, etc) then you need to configure the buttons separately for those applications.
Out of the box I set up my mouse to use the customizable buttons to copy and paste. It worked like a dream with everything except Microsoft Apps. But then I discovered the menu to customize the buttons for those apps and everything was good to go.
Additionally I discovered probably the most impressive feature of this mouse: Application Switcher! For you Mac users out there this is basically the equivalent of Expose. For those of you that don’t know what this is, basically you just press a button on your mouse and it shrinks all the open windows you have and presents them all on the screen, and then you just click on the window you need and it brings it to the forefront. Amazing time saver! Windows 7 tried to do something similar with the “Snap” feature … but this completely blows that out of the water.
If you are in need of a mouse with customizable buttons and GREAT features … look no further. Thanks Logitech!

Great for everything!

I bought this mouse in January 2010 and it works great! It takes forever for it to consume all of the batteries' power. I only have to change the batteries every 5-6 months and I use this mouse all day. The best thing about this mouse is that it has a sleep mode so that when it is left idle it will basically turn off and has no problem turning back on once you move it (almost like it never went into sleep mode). This mouse is extremely durable, I have dropped this mouse on hard floor many times and it has yet to break.
When the battery gets low the light next to the wheel will turn red, but even when that happens it will still work for a couple more weeks. The mouse is good for desktops and laptops.

Everything about this mouse is great, proving once again that Logitech is the world leader in mice.
The size and shape of the mouse are perfect, fitting fully into my hand, especially because it's a full-sized mouse and not a miniature one.
The buttons are not too resistant, allowing for easy clicking (and the scrollwheel's sideways scrolling is a nice feature).
Wireless is an excellent feature, and the mini USB receiver means you plug it in and it never gets in the way. One bonus feature is it uses Logitech's unifying receiver, so if you have another Logitech wireless product (which I do, one of their keyboards), you can connect it to the same receiver without performance degradation OR without using an extra port. NICE!!!!
All in all this may be the best mouse purchase I have ever made, more valuable than the previous mouse I owned (miniature portable one) and even my gaming mouse (Razer Mamba). Rock on, Logitech!

It fits my hand well. I am disabled and it allows me to go back and forth between web pages, and scroll with ease.

Scroll wheel doesn't work very well
Posted by: Jimm2013 from: TX on
I bought this mouse because of the great reviews here. One major problem I've seen is with the scroll wheel. Each click should scroll the page a certain amount. For some reason, the mouse seems to have trouble registering the movement of the wheel. I could scroll the mouse for 5 clicks and it might pick up 2 of them. It's not consistent at all. I googled reviews for this and saw that other people reported the same problem. I've had good luck with Logitech mice before but this one doesn't meet the quality that I'm used to. I'll probably be returning it.

I love the design, don't need to program a bunch of things as this is a multi-purpose mouse, not a gaming mouse... Works well whenever I use it, easily turn it on and off, and love using it instead of a touchpad...Had to adjust the mouse movement settings, but that was simple enough to make it more user friendly.
I bought one for home use, one for work, and going to buy one for my parents if that says anything... They are plug-and-play, so there shouldn't be need for software unless it's time to get a new computer ; ) - worst case scenario, you should just need to re-start your computer once the USB adapter is inserted and the mouse turned on...
Only gripe is that the movement gets choppy when the mouse is more than 10' away from the USB receiver...other than that, I'm perfectly happy!

Not for large hands
Posted by: AntiFan from: Fullerton, CA on
I saw the M510 mouse on sale recently and decided to pick it up.
Plug and play: The mouse worked perfectly after plugging it into my windows 7 desktop.
Interface: I had to download the software for the mouse as it did not come with a disc. The software lets you change the mouse speed, acceleration, assign buttons, etc..
Ergonomics: I'm going from a larger mouse - the Logitech MX518 (same shape as Logitech G400) which is a wired mouse. I was immediately disappointed in the feel of the M510 in comparison which is made for a smaller hand. Both my ring and pinky fingers touch the desk now w/o support whereas the shape of the MX518 comfortably fit my hand and allowed my ring finger to rest on top of the mouse and my pink hug the side with a little bit of support. The side buttons on the M510 are kinda awkward and don't really have the convenient positioning that the MX518 had.
Sadly I'm going to return the mouse and go back to a wired setup unless I can find a suitable wireless replacement in a larger size.
For reference I wear around a size L in gloves or maybe slightly larger.
On a side note - I couldn't really configure the software to make it feel like my old mouse but maybe I was imagining the awkwardness - hard to tell. I played around with a lot of the settings.

Stopped working less than 1 month after purchase
Posted by: CowtownG from: Columbus, OH on
One day just stopped working. Not sure if communication issue with receiver or other internal defect. Tried changing batteries but no luck. Reset to receiver did no good. Returned to store.
