What can i say about Cursive's new release "Mama, I'm Swollen"? It's not their worst...that's a start.
The album opens with the very forgettable "In The Now"...and that's how the album continues. Forgettable.
There are a few tracks (see "from the hips") that would fit in much better with Kasher's side project, "The Good Life" and there are a few catchy guitar lines that almost scream genious but never quite get there.
The last song, "what have i done?" is actually one of the better songs and i wish it was the first song on the album. It is about how now that he's grown up and happy, he has nothing to write about...and he let what he thought was his worst years go by him.
That's what this album SHOULD have been about: an aging songwriter past his prime...because that's what he is. Kasher is MUCH better at examining himself and his relationships than he is the outside world. If he continued that theme then i think it could have been a much more inspired album.
The album is sparatic. Doesn't flow from start to finish. And is uninspired...Kind of like this review.
What Cursive really needs is a producer to keep them on track and help shape the album. Because the flow is just awful and the songs are some of the most uninspired i've heard in years.
Better than happy hollow...but not by much.
Good try Kasher...You'll get 'em next time... maybe

I was so excited to hear that cursive was going to be releasing a cd.....I was hoping they didn't murder it like Happy Hollow, the cd is ok and hasn't grown on me quite yet. If you like Happy Hollow then get this cd. The last track is the only song on the cd that was excellent, other tracks are so so.
