Assembling the Ultimate Team - The all-star cast shares the excitement of teaming up to bring these characters to life, and Director Joss Whedon discusses what each of them brough to their role
Audio Commentary - With Director Joss Whedon
Marvel's The Avengers Marvel Studios delivers the ultimate comic-book film, which ties together such characters as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) for a big-screen franchise team-up like no other. Taking center stage this time is Nick Fury (played once again by the note-perfect Samuel L. Jackson), leader of the peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Fury, along with former Russian spy Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), recruits a super team to combat Thor's ever-deceptive brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) after he brainwashes ace archer Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) while stealing a cosmic cube from an underground base. Thus the heroes must learn to work together alongside outlaw scientist Bruce Banner (Ruffalo), who can track down the artifact's gamma signals when he's not hulking out into a giant green monster. Show runner Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly) adapted and helmed the script by Zak Penn. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi

Having all these super heroes that usually command their own movie in one film and making it work is a great feat. The first hour sort of sets up the action for the last part of the movie. Maybe there could be more action in the beginning or maybe its just not possible because of all the elements that have to be put together. Either way its a great movie and the action sequence in the end is fantastic, sort of reminds me of the 1st and 3rd Transformer movies where the battles took place in the city. If you're a Super Hero fan you will love this movie.

I am a huge comic nerd and am usually dissappointed by some of the comic movies but when they did The Avengers Joss Whedon did everything right and perfect in my opinion!

Best Movie of the Year
Posted by: mholly09 from: Atlanta on
I'm sure you've heard it before that the first half of the movie is pretty long and drawn out with very little action. But understandable since they had to tie 6 characters (8 if you count Nick Fury and Agent Colsen) into one movie. Not an easy feat but Joss Whedon handled it beautifully. Spectacular action, love seeing all the characters work together! The 3D Blu ray combo pack is the best value because it has all of the formats in one. Great movie...can't wait for Avengers 2!!!!

MOVIE OF THE YEAR!!!!!
Posted by: 2Sharpe from: Glen Allen, Va on
Hands down, The Avengers is the movie of the year! My expectations were high going into this & it has surpassed my expectations. I seen this movie in theaters 3x (mad I couldn't catch it in IMAX). I am a movie addict and I can tell you this is the first movie I ever pre-ordered to pick up on the day of it's release. I am looking forward to picking this up and not only having it at home, but on the go on my iPad. If it were up to me, this movie would receive the Oscar for movie of the year.

This movie has it all. It mixes many different genres into one movie. Plus it has many independent movie converge together to this movie. Each one great in its own right. This movie defines a new age in the history of movie making and will forever change it.

Movie of the YEAR (2012)
Posted by: DarthShader from: Kattering, OH on
I eagerly anticipated this movie (saw it 8 times in theaters). Better than Star Wars? Can't say that because we couldn't have this movie without Star Wars and all of the advances gleaned from that series. Maybe the Star Wars of the 21st Century would be fitting. All other Super Hero movies (past, present & future) will be judged against this movie.
To take the 4 very different main heroes, along with the other 2 (not so minor) heroes, mix in Nick Fury and his gang, along with the very enigmatic Loki; so many things could have gone very wrong. Everything meshed! Here we could say that the story, writing, and acting were better than Star Wars... far better. Whedon thought of every detail!
At first, I was dreading the casting of Mark Ruffalo as Banner, but he pulled it off far better than Norton or Bana. He channeled his inner Bill Bixby and delivered an excellent rendition of Dr. Banner. Hulk has some of the best moments of the film. I like how this movie picked up where the last Hulk movie left off and didn't just downplay the two previous installments.
This is not an origin of the characters movie, but rather the origin of this grouping. Each hero has been set up in previous movies, allowing the Avengers to be about the Avengers and not about any one hero. Downey Jr. made a very apt point about Agent Coulson during the extras: It is amazing how a seemingly very minor character played such an integral part in weaving together the Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America, movies to culminate into a very necessary element in the Avengers. Nick Fury refers to Coulson and his "one good eye."
I am eagerly awaiting Iron Man 3 next summer (May 2013) and then the next Avengers movie which is too far off for my liking.
Until then, I will be content to watch the Avengers every week until their next outing... it won't get old; it's that GOOD! Treat yourself to the BEST MOVIE of 2012.
Oh, and feel free to watch the animated series: Avengers, Earth's Mightiest Heroes; vols 1 - 5.

Greatest Super Hero Movie of all time!
Posted by: FireKnight22 from: Rockford, MI on
I'm biased on this as I am a True Believer and Marvel Comics has been a part of my lifetime for ever. I also am a 3D Artist and Digital Special Effects Artists, and the SFX in this Film are over the TOP!
Wait till the next one comes out the SFX will be 100X more amazing. One Copy for me and One for the Family.
