Mega Disasters: East Coast Tsunami [DVD]
Catering to doomsayers everywhere, this speculative History Channel documentary contemplates the possibility that a massive tsunami might one day arrive from out of nowhere and smack the eastern seaboard of the United States, taking with it thousands of lives and wreaking a destructive potential unlike any natural catastrophe Americans have seen. The event, the program argues, could easily be triggered by a volcanic eruption on the west coast of the African continent. The film investigates cataclysms of this nature from previous years, including an 1888 tsunami that wiped out areas of New Guinea; it also discusses the potential side effects of natural disasters from the early 21st century, such as the collapse of the Cumbre Vieja volcano in the Canary Islands that many argue is forthcoming. ~ Nathan Southern
