The beginning of change & experimentation
Posted by: Elkaye from: Florida on
When comparing this album with R.E.M.'s previous music, it seems as if REM wanted to do something completely different from their previous albums. Listeners will definitely notice more of a edgy rock sound, even in the slower songs. There is a lot of electric guitar present in most of the this album.
Hits from this include "What's the Frequency Kenneth", "Star69", and "Crush with Eyeliner". My personal favs are "Band & Blame" and "Circus Envy".
This album is where some longtime REM fans began to lose interest in the band's experimental sounds in their music. I however embrace it and think the band does a very good job with this and later albums.

Great rock record

This CD is under appreciated, because REM took a different turn with this one. Try it though and you will find an excellent collection of tracks with variety.
