Overview

Synopsis

Muddy Waters: Live at Chicagofest
Muddy Waters was arguably the most influential blues musician of the post-war era; fusing the sensibility of country blues with a raw electric sound, Waters was one of the first artists to define the Chicago blues that would produce some of the most memorable acts of the 1950s and 60s, and he was a powerful and evocative songwriter. Waters was also a particular favorite with the young British blues rock musicians who would bring the music to its greatest popularity, including the Yardbirds and the Rolling Stones (the latter group even took their name from one of Waters' songs). In 1981, Muddy Waters and his band were booked to headline Chicagofest, the city's biggest annual music festival, and the 66-year-old singer and guitarist showed an overflowing crowd that he was still one of the most powerful, charismatic bluesmen alive. Muddy Waters: Live at Chicagofest captures his performance at the festival, including guest appearances by guitarist Johnny Winter and local heroes Big Twist and Mighty Joe Young. Selections include "Mannish Boy", "Got My Mojo Working", "I'm A King Bee", "She's Nineteen Years Old", "Trouble No More" and many more. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
