Best Decision I ever made Posted by: from: on I was very skeptical about spending 250 bucks for a thermostat.....but I also don't like paying high electric bills. So after hearing so many good things about the Nest Thermostat, I went ahead and reluctantly purchased this product. I wasn't sure that it was working at first, because in the first week it didn't appear to do the things it appears to do in the commercials. Turns out it was just "learning" my habits because after about a week it was automatically adjusting the temperature for me. I was SO SHOCKED to see that my electric bill was literally HALF the price of what it normally is and IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER TOO!! This thing will definitely pay for itself in two more months. I LOVE IT!!! I also love the fact that if I need to make any adjustments I don't have to walk all the way to thermostat, I can just adjust from my smart phone. SO HAPPY to be a part of the Nest family!

Big Differences between 2nd gen Nests! Great! Posted by: from: Boston, MA on I had just installed 2 2nd generation Nests and 3 weeks later this was released so I boxed them up and returned both to Best Buy and swapped them out for this generation version. Those of you who think there are no big differences in generations, you are dead wrong. This generation of Nest is thinner, larger more bold screen and has a Farsight setting which enhances the entire dial, noticing you from about 20 feet away looking at the thermostat. Plus it seems more intuitive and is just sleeker looking. What happened was Google bought these guys and said, lets update this product to make it look like a modern product put out by a Google company. Plus this syncs nicely with all 9 of my 2nd gen Nest Protects and is just a beautiful product. So go ahead and trade in your 2nd gen Nest Thermostat because you won't be sorry!

Beware, go to Nest Community comments before buyin Posted by: from: Chicago, IL on "Smart functions" are not great. I've had this for 3 months. Never worked as advertised. 4 software updates in that time that you can't refuse and they are riddled with bugs. "Early on" has only worked once. Either fails to work or doesn't reach temp by the set time. "Auto away" is only good if it sees motion all the time. "Time to temp" only works with a manual change of the dial, not at a programmed change. Don't be fooled by the display. The large temp looks pretty but that is the set temp, not the room temp and you can't change it. Customer services is great and they are polite and try to help but they get no backup from programmers. Customer suggestions are ignored. No response since 2013. End result, no better than my programmable thermostat which was less than half the price. And that worked much better at reaching the set temp on schedule. Also, Nest does not control 2 stage heating reliably. Check out the horror stories at the Nest Community comments.

Nest - Learning Thermostat Smart AC for your home Posted by: from: on The Nest - Learning Thermostat - 3rd Generation is the ideal product for anyone who wants to improve the energy use and lower the electric bill in their home. The Nest Thermostat does a phenomenal job of: A. Cutting AC usage while still cooling/heating home B. Lowers energy usage C. Tracks energy usage and gives reports D. Learns from past usage E. Sets temp while user is away F. Cools/Heats home with 3 options of use (App, auto, and manual) In addition to all this the device is easy to install, learns from its users, and provides easy to understand data via email and app usage. This product can change the way you view AC units. For its price it will pay for itself in just a few months. The only CON is that when you first install it there will be a few hours where it will take time to heat or cool the house. Other than this it is the ideal smart AC unit.

Expensive but worth it Posted by: from: on One of my best investments, and I'm talking not about energy savings! I mean that it's easy to install and really great in use! It's quite expensive and I'm lucky that I need only one! The manufacturer dropped the price right after two weeks after my purchase, so I was disappointed a little... But it worth every penny! Great product with useful futures, such as remote control from your smartphone and motion detection. But my favorite fiture is the way it feels when you manualy adjust the temperature - it clicks like a premium safe:) Well build, feels very solid! I'm skeptical about energy savings, because I have free work schedule and someone from my family is always at home, so the AC is always on... Will check my energy bill at the end of this month.

Been a roller coaster Posted by: from: on So I purchased the nest a little over a month ago. The install was easy, instructions were easy to follow and I'm not a big handy man when it comes to wiring but nest made it easy. I turned it on and snap, it worked! I was happy. A month later the system started giving me an error message on the thermostat screen. I called nest and they walked me through the troubleshoot. So, they determined I needed a common wire install because my old thermostat ran on batteries and the nest doesn't so it's started having a power sharing issue. The good news is nest will reimburse me for the HVAC tech to come out and install. I haven't received my check yet so that's why I'm rated this product 3 stars. The nest when working is efficient and modern looking. If all goes well I'll look into the nest camera.

Well Worth It Posted by: from: on I purchased a 3rd generation Nest thermostat and installed it. I had one issue with this. To charge its batteries, the Nest needs a C (common) wire hooked up; otherwise it tries to charge itself whenever the heating or cooling system is running -- the only time current is passing through it. When I hooked one of my Nests up, it said it needed to charge its batteries, and even though my house had no need for cooling or heating, it turned my HVAC on for hours to charge its batteries. I researched, found out what the problem was, and hooked up a C wire (luckily my HVAC controller had a place to hook up a C wire and my thermostat wires each had three extra wires in them). Good luck to anyone without an extra wire to use.

First smart thermostat Posted by: from: on I've been wanting a smart thermostat for a few years now but my system didn't allow use of one. I found out i was able to updated the control panel on the furnace to accommodate. I was about to purchase the 2nd generation Nest when that same day they announced the 3rd generation. My friends and family all haves Nests and they are great. This 3rd generation is a big improvement. The large face, the large numbers, the farsight feature, all big improvements. $250 is a big expensive but i believe they are well worth it. Time will tell as i have numbers from the previous 2 years to compare with. Also...easy to install, easy to work. Great app.

I like it Posted by: from: on I had been watching this item for a long time before my purchase. When I saw the generation 2 on sale for $199, I was tempted to make the purchase, but when I read the reviews on the generation 2 I decided to go with the generation 3. The installation went well, the directions were sufficient for a novice person to understand. The only difficulty that I experienced was getting the app to work correctly. At the start, the app was unable to connect with the nest unit. Something must've gone wrong with the initial start up process, but after restarting the nest unit, the problem was corrected and I am now able to see my nest unit online.

Good product, but still with flaws. Posted by: from: Durham, NC on I really like the Nest Thermostat so far. I like being able to adjust the temperature of my phone. I also like to be able to see how much energy I've saved and how often my air conditioner has been running. My only complaint would be that the Nest isn't very consistent. But neither is my work schedule which is probably part of the problem. My schedule switches back and forth between dayshift and nightshift. Sometimes I'll be in bed and the thermostat is set to 69 degrees. Later on I'll wake up to the thermostat making the house hotter to 73-74 degrees even after I manually set it to 69. I don't get that yet. But overall, I really like this product.
