These are still being sold as being compatible with ISP-broadband through Century Link. About month ago my ISP stop working, and bought another modem thinking modem went bad.
This modem is no longer compatible Century Link broadband.
From: CenturyLink (firstname.lastname@example.org) You moved this message to its current location.

Lenny L.: Thank you for waiting, seems like the modem you have is no longer compatible with our service.

Issues if you use it with a wireless router
Posted by: Timbucky from: Michigan on
See "Many caveats" by evandro if you want to use it as a simple modem connected to a wireless router. Set up first without router. Then change mode:
Change the Device Mode
The modem includes a built-in router. If you want to configure the modem as a “pure bridge” in Modem mode, first set up the Internet connection and then change the Device Mode setting to Modem mode.
In Modem mode, the device acts as a “pure bridge” or DSL modem. When the device is in Modem mode, features that are not available are grayed out.
1. Select Advanced > Device Mode. The following screen displays:
By default, the modem is in Router mode.
2. Select the device mode that you want from the drop-down list.
3. Click Apply so that your changes take effect.
Then reboot with router installed. The only odd thing is that the internet works but the internet light on the modem does no glow. Oh well.

Works with AT&T DSL network in CT. I bought it to replace a Siemens Speed Stream 4100 that crashed 4 to 5 times a day. the setup was quick and easy. I've had no problems with it.
Using a Mac pro and a Cradle Point MBR-900 Router
1) Connect modem to computer via ether net.
2) On computer goto 192.168.0.1 in browser and login with username: admin and password: password.
3) Modem will ask if you want to run set up wizard, chose yes the enter your DSL username and password when asked by the wizard.
4)That's it!, it worked for me.
Once you setup the modem with the DSL network you can connect it to a router. most routers will auto connect and distribute IP addresses. Make sure your router is set up for DHCP.
Use the feet included with the modem and set the modem up in the vertical position. This will help keep the modem cool while operating.

Very Happy with product

I’m so happy to have a reliable modem at an affordable price! This Netgear replaces 2 bad Motorola Modems that I had a string of problems with for weeks. The 2210 died in less than 2 years and would not give the DSL Light. The 3360 never worked correctly right out of the box and would drop the Internet Light each night. After trying everything known to man to resolve, finally had to exchange for this Netgear. It is a far superior product and is $20 cheaper in price! It does work with the AT&T DSL Network. Even though AT&T claims not to support this specific model over the phone, it works flawlessly and needs no support. It was very easy to setup using the CD. I agree with what another person said to go ahead and use the optional feet included. This helps keeps the modem cooler while operating. It’s such a joy to finally be using the Internet again without constant frustrations. Thank you Netgear!

This product didn't seem to support the speeds Verizon promised despite the product information being to the contrary. Being fair-minded... I do not want to criticize the product negatively as it could have easily been the service providers fault. I am sure that there have been times when you were told by a service provider that it was your equipment's fault and not theirs. Most often it was later discover it was the provider's lack of promised service. That being said... I have used Netgear products many times over the years and been very satisfied. Needless to say I switched service providers and I am now on cable rather than ADSL. So I went right out and bought another Netgear Cable Modem that I am very pleased with. I believe in Netgear and the superiority of their products.

So far, so good. I bought this DSL Modem to replace my Siemens Speedstream 4100 modem from AT&T. My old modem started crashing many times a day and it was beginning to be very frustrating!! I kept calling AT&T internet tech support and they would tell me there was nothing wrong with my modem it was a circuit, so I hesitated for about 6 weeks before finally buying this Netgear modem. When I bought it, I thought I would just buy it and see what happens, I was getting desperate at this point. I had even had a tech out to my house 3 times trying to fix my internet.
Well I'm happy to report that since hooking up this new Netgear modem I have no more internet connection problems!!! So obviously it was my old Speedstream modem. I am so happy!!! Oh, and my internet is much faster too!!

For those of us in rural areas, ADSL is often the only choice. Don't let your Internet provider stick you with a monthly rental bill or some lame modem that you have to get replaced through them (because you'll be without Internet for days). I got this because it's a top-quality modem that is actually cheaper than the rental offerings from my ISP.
Know this: modems are VERY sensitive to electrical pulses, so no matter who makes them, they do tend to get fried eventually. The $5.00 Geek Squad protection is the best way to go (and this is coming from someone who NEVER gets an extended warranty). So when that time does come, you can just run to Best Buy and make a swap--or you can ask your ISP to ship one and enjoy waiting for days without Internet.

Netgear Support POOR
Posted by: Peaches from: on
I bought this so I did not have to pay a monthly fee to my provider. The 1st instruction says to get the user name and password for the provider. Well my provider does not use that, all I needed was to have the VPI & VCI changed. The installation CD does not allow you to do this, so when I called for support the "Expert", he blamed it on bad DSL connection because the 2nd light was flashing (that isn't the DSL indicator this is the ethernet indicator). He told me to call my provider. My provider said that was not the case and had to call Netgear back - well all of this took 2 1/2 hours - Netgear "Experts" need TRAINING! They had me go on routerlogin.net and I am the one that actually found where to put in the VPI & VCI, while I was on hold and got that corrected. But there was another setting that need to be changed and even after telling the "Expert" that I made these changes I was still put on hold multi times after this, he finally told me to make the other setting change.

Great DSL Modem that works for my set up
Posted by: StarGazer from: on
My 3 yr-old Motorola DSL Modem started to drop constantly so I had to replace it. After reading the reviews, I decided to purchase this Netgear DSL Modem. Anyway this was the only DSL Modem I could find that would work with my set up. I have High Speed Internet DSL service with AT&T and I have a Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router (WNR3500). I first followed the instructions to set up the Netgear DSL Modem. But to get it to work with my Netgear Router, I had to set the modem to bridge mode. I found the instructions to do this at the Netgear Support website, enter model number DM111PSPv2, then look for document “Setting the DM111PSPv2 to Modem Mode (Bridge Mode)”. I am satisfied with this product.

I purchased this to go with a Netgear AC 1750 router for Windstream service. The combo works very well; much faster service and no problems!
