Good, solid router

I bought this router to replace A Vizio HD router that started dropping the wireless after three years. Before that, the longest any router I bought would last was less than a year. Even when the Vizio was new, our media streaming would frequently drop and stall. Since we installed this Netgear router 4 months ago, we haven't experienced a single media drop. We run a desktop, two laptops, a server, two smartphones, two game consoles and two wifi Blu-Ray players on this router with almost no trouble. And if you configure your wireless card properly, 54Mbps is very, very nice to have.
Installation was fast, easy and absolutely painless, and though the system specs say it's compatible with Windows and Mac, I did all the setup and configuration on an OpenSuse Linux laptop using the web interface so easily I could almost have slept through the process.
It broadcasts wireless on two separate channels (check my terminology, please), one at 2.4g and the other at 5g. I'm not sure how many devices support 5g yet, but its presence in this router means no worries when we upgrade devices.
The one problem we did have may be more a matter of location than a function of the router. There's one spot, about 20 feet from the router, where the sofa is, that seems to have trouble holding the connection with my wife's laptop. But just behind that is my son's room, and he has no trouble with the connection with his desktop, so it's probably not the router itself. But still, make sure of your router placement. Higher up is better. Properly placed, this router seems to be the best I've tried yet.
I'd definitely recommend this router to anyone looking for a fast and easy home or small business router. Not for a large network, of course, but it handles all our devices with ease.

Brilliant Product at a Great Price

I actually went into BBY to buy a cisco router. But when I got there this router was right below it. I wanted the Cisco E2000 but this one boasted better data rates and was much cheaper. Thanks to the sale I got this great product. I am an IT Systems Administrator so my opinion on how easy it was to setup may not be the best gauge. Although, I will say it is extremely easy to setup. The web interface is great. I didn't even realize, until I got home, that this router has 3 seperate wireless networks all with their own SSIDs. I setup one for my internal network of computers, one for my gaming consoles and there is a handy 3rd one. It actually creates an isolated network that cannot communicate back into your internal network. This is good for when you want to have a guest connection for friends to get on when they are over. I hide the first 2 and broadcast the 3rd. I use my Cisco 7921 wireless VoIP phone on it as well and the connection is amazingly clear unlike my old router.
All in all, extremely glad I bought this.

Great Router....Great Price

This is a great router, plain and simple. No problems setting up. In fact, I was up and running in just about 15 minutes. I'm not sure why the other people had issues and gave this router bad reviews. If you google it, you will see it is a great item. I have two laptops, PS3, XBOX 360 slim, and WII all hooked up and no issues at all. If you are a gamer, this is a no brainer purchase!!

I had to replace a Belkin wireless router that stopped worker after 15 months - just 3 months out of warranty. This router was on sale and I didn't want another Belkin. I had my network back up and running within 20 minutes! What a breeze!
And it's been working great for about a week now with no problems (knock on wood!).
I would recommend this to anyone!

I've had this router for a month now. It works great !! Much better than the Belkin it replaced. No problems at all!! I use it to handle the lap top, the wireless desktop, and the PS3 (wired). No disconnects, no problems when I'm gaming, wife on desktop, and laptop logged on to enternet. All at the same time. I love it!!!!!!!!!!

Bought this to replace an old Belkin N150 router. The difference is like night and day. Hulu and Netflix work MUCH better now.
Best Buy needs to update the photos and description of this router though. If you look at the pictures I uploaded, you'll see the router and packaging look different. The one BB shows is an older model and some things have changed. I verified this by matching the SKU's. Same SKU, different item. The one sold now is a WNDR3400v3
Also, don't be fooled into purchasing a router that is AC capable. Very few, if any, products you use a router with are AC capable yet. Unless you're a techie and will upgrade to the latest and greatest as soon as it comes out, you're wasting money. TV's, laptops, tablets, phones, etc. all still run on N technology.
If you only have a few items (up to 6) connected, then N600 is a great middle ground. Below that and you'll run into problems. Above that is overkill unless you have Gig internet speeds.
I'd definitely recommend this over Belkin or Linksys. Linksys was bought by Belkin and their quality has dropped significantly. I originally purchased a Belkin AC750 a day before purchasing this router and had trouble with it right out of the box.

i heard alot of bad rep for netgear, i did alot of research before making my decision. i had a belken n router(MIMO technology) and after almost 2 years it just started to give out while playing on xbox-live. i thought it was ISP gave them a call and had to reconfigure the modem and i still got booted off live. i said screw it went out to my best buy stood in front of all the routers they had asked the rep a couple of questions then making my final selection on this router.
when i got home i followed all instructions went smooth just for one part when it said that there was an update for the firmware i let it update it, i left it alone so i wouldnt mess anything up and when i came back it said that there was an error. I clicked ok and when i check the the firmware it was successful ( weired, yes ) .
in about 15 mins bada bing bada boom i was surfing. played on line found matches in seconds way better/faster then my belkin (wont be getting belkin anymore) long story short after a couple of of days of owning this wonderful router....... i like it =D..
gigabit and ethernet, to me there all the same idk and cant tell the diffrence only for the price

Great for gamers

I picked this router up because my other one finally kicked the bucket. I had some small issues setting it up but the tech support got me through it. Family has never been happier with the on line gaming.
