When thousands of Ukrainians left their jobs at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant on the night of April 25, 1986, they couldn't have imagined the catastrophe that several hours later would change the landscape of their country forever. A nuclear disaster had rocked the region. With 20 years behind them and barely able to make headway, the locals' recovery efforts were stalled for good in 2006 when an unforeseen second explosion left a vast Exclusion Zone plagued with deadly energy disturbances.

Fast-forward to 2012. The quarantined Exclusion Zone has expanded beyond belief. Now, specially equipped poachers known as S.T.A.L.K.E.Rs are venturing into this forsaken region to claim radioactive artifacts for resale on the black market. The game begins with you awakening from unconsciousness in the Zone, unable to remember who you are or how you got there. Like a story out of the pages of a sci-fi novel, Shadow of Chernobyl has you vying for survival among rivals, soldiers and mutant creatures in a highly hazardous environment to discover the true nature of Chernobyl's horrific past while attempting to reclaim your forgotten identity.
