What does it take to add crystal-clear DIRECTV programming to your home? It's quite simple. All you need is a clear view of the southern sky and a desire to improve your home-entertainment experience. If you own the place you live, simply pick out a system, purchase it and wait for the installation guys to call — you're ready to go.

If you rent, you need to check with your landlord or property manager for permission to install the DIRECTV satellite dish on your rooftop. If you are not able to install it on a rooftop, you may be able to install it on your private balcony, patio or in your garden, as long as the satellite dish has a clear view of the southern sky. In fact, a January 1999 FCC ruling states that apartment, condominium, town home and single-family home renters can install either satellite dishes or TV antennas in these areas.
