Excellent 4/3 Camera

Posted by: GadgetHound from on 08/10/2015The Olympus OM-D E-M1 is a great system. If you are tired of carrying around a large DSLR system and want a camera that is portable and responsive then you should take a like at this camera. The autofocus system is quick and lock on is good unless you are shooting in low-light situations. Olympus has built an excellent range of lenses for their 4/3 system and you can use Panasonic lenses from their 4/3 cameras. I have used the 17mm, 45mm, and 12-40mm lenses and they are all very quick and can produce nice bokeh in the right settings. I had used the Fujifilm X-T1, Sony A7 and A7II and found the Olympus to just fit my needs better, not to detract from the others because they can certainly capture outstanding images, but I just get more pleasure using the Olympus.

Great all around camera.

Posted by: shopsbbuy from North Florida on 07/10/2015Purchased the smaller mirrorless interchangeable lens camera to replace my full sized DSLR on outings where the smaller size/weight would be easier. Purchased two lenses and a smaller carry bag. Have tried several features of the camera and so far have not been disappointed. It takes great pictures. Haven't had it long enough to try all the features but the buttons and dials seem easy to access. Love the size most of all.

A brilliant camera

Posted by: KKBC from on 02/01/2015I've had this camera for a month now. It is brilliant. Ergonomically, fantastic. Fully customizable. The viewfinder is excellent. IQ is great. Auto-focus is blazing fast. The image stabilization is absolutely amazing - shooting the 45mm at 1/10 and it turns out sharp - wow. While it gets a bad rap for video, its great for hand held video due to the IS. Really, a great camera. The primary downside to the Oly cameras is the semi-archaic menu system, but you get used to it. I only wish it had less depth of field on occasion, but that's what you get with m43. Often times it is to your advantage.

Great quality pictures!

Super light, packs well for hikes/around town, and takes great quality pictures without much effort (aka keeping it on auto). Definetly worth the expense for a beginner enthusiast.

Great quality

I decided to buy this camera bc of the reviews I read mainly about three things: image quality, durability, and overall performance. I've been extremely satisfied with all three. This is my first enthusiast level camera and I've had zero difficulties using this product (albeit with the 160 page manual as a reference of course). Image quite is outstanding. Low light performance is good not great. The build quality is amazing. I never feel like it's going I break. I never accidentally hit the wrong button Etc. Overall performance is by far the best feature. The amount of customizable buttons and the cameras 5axis stabizationa long with it's fast af make this camera a VERY versatile camera. There are def better image quality cameras(sony a7r, Fuji xpro1 etc) out there but for the price and size and versatility omd em1 can't be beat.

Fabulous camera for photo enthusiasts

Posted by: Galengwath from Colorado on 11/12/2013Coming from the world of DSLR's, the Olympus OM-D E-M1 is a revelation. Not only is it a smal, though not tiny, camera, but it has all the features you'd expect from a camera targeting photography professionals and then some. I'll be honest, I don't expect to use all of those features, but in the short time i've owned the camera I've had a bast tweaking it to my specifications and learning how to take a much higher level of control over my photography than I've been able to in the past. Besides the great customization, what do I love about it? Autofocus speeds are phenomenal, even with full tracking enabled, burst speeds are impressive, image quality is outstanding, and low light performance is far better than I expected. State of the art Olympus image stabilization is also great, particukarly in low-light situations. In short, for my uses, the E-M1 is indeed very close to the perfect camera. A couple of minor caveats to that statement: The grip, while ergonomic and comfortable, is just a little bit too short for my hand, and it's akward finding a place for my pinkie finger. I'm considering one of the third party add-ons that will make the camera and grip a little taller to take care of that problem. The EVF takes some serious getting used to. It's a very different experience from a DSLR-style OVF, but once used to it is a great aid for envisioning the final picture. The camera strap, as usual, is dissapointing and uncomfortable. I've already purchased a different strap for it. So in short, really can't think of much that I don't like about the camera. The build quality is exemplary, and I expect it to survive many years of use. While I can't state with certainty that this is the right camera for you, I can assert that it an exemplary camera, refined to a level that very few cameras ever are.
