Better than expected. Great for the price!

My initial impression was this unit runs hotter than my last Hamilton Beach model that bit the dust after approx 10 years. After using it for about a month, I'd still say that's true, but it toasts well ( Ihave to turn it a little past darker to get it it the way i like it. It bakes small batches of cookies well, and since you set a timer that shuts off the oven, I haven't burned any. The timer sounds like an old fashioned egg timer, but that doesn't bother me. My main motivation for buying this is that it was the least expensive toaster oven I could find. I'm on a tight budget, and it fits the bill price wise and does a good job as well.

Not designed for frequent use
Posted by: practicalbuyer from: San Francisco, CA on
The pan of this model is smaller than I expected (fits 4 slices of English muffins at most). The heating elements are exposed, so if your bread drops crumbs, some could get baked onto the element over time. The crumbtray slides out tipping down toward the back of the oven, so most the crumbs get dumped back into the oven when this tray slides out. I think this design was more for the eys than for actual utility. Not impressed.

Poorly designed oven
Posted by: CarolinaGirl41 from: South Carolina on
About the only thing this oven does well is broil. When toasting, it
burns the edges before the center is toasted. But the worst thing is trying to bake. For some reason this company decided that both
the top and bottom element should be on. This results in the top
of everything getting burnt because it is actually being broiled. I got
around this by covering everything I bake in foil. This seems to
keep it from burning. I would not recommend this oven.

Over complicated toaster mechanism
Posted by: scaatyrs from: on
If a toaster can be complicated, this is. You have to adjust two dials, move from time to no time, then select another dial to toast. Tray is very "tinny". Would NEVER recommend or buy again. Heating element is fine but it's a pain to use. I just don't want to think so much about "toasting" bread.

Just what I have been looking for.
Posted by: sistercare from: Lugoff, SC on
Most toaster/ovens comes with the large heating element which I don't like. This toaster has the smaller element that used to be in older toasters. It toasts the bread evenly and perfect to suit me. It also cooks muffins as good as my large oven but using less energy by it being smaller. I am very satisfied and happy with it.

Won't turn off
Posted by: Billie7 from: Chicago, IL on
I purchased this toaster oven when my 15year old unit died, so I am very familiar with how to properly use a toaster oven. I purchased this unit on the 12May2014. In mid-October, it refused to shut off. I had to unplug it and have had to do so since. I have tried to call Oster multiple times since they do not respond to emails and their number says they are open Mon-Fri from 9A-6P EST but that does not seem to be true since I just got that message at 3:45P CST which is only 4:45P EST. Not even 6months and it's dead, plus no customer service, complete waste of money

Good product for the price

I like the size of the toaster oven. It doesn't take up a lot of counter space so I don't have to keep putting it away after each use.
