Great for what I need
Posted by: rwjrn from: Bay Area, CA on
I bought this watch to use at work. There are several things I like about it. It does not have a stainless steel back so I can wear it without getting an allergic rash. It is water resistant. I work in healthcare and wash my hands a lot. The band, while made of cheap rubber is comfortable and easy to keep clean. The face is customizable. Mostly I leave it on the large numbers, but if I forget the date or need a second hand I push a button and get what I need. I have had no issues with scratching and the battery lasts through my 4 day work week without needing to be charged. It synced easily with my iPhone and every notice I get on my phone I get on my watch. This includes emails, texts, phone calls and even news apps that send me notifications. When I'm driving and get a text I can do a quick glance at my wrist to see if it is anything I need to pull over and deal with. I pair my phone to a Bluetooth speaker while I'm working around the garage and can use the watch to pause or skip songs. This watch is not a thing of beauty, but it's very useful and functional.

a great watch and more!
Posted by: missyp17 from: eugene, or on
I almost didn't buy this watch because some of the reviews were so negative...but I figured most people only write reviews if they have something negative to say..so I bought the watch a few days ago...and I love it! It is the coolest watch I have ever had. It's comfortable and the watchfaces are really fun! I learned lastnight that if I shake my wrist, the auto light comes on and i can see the time in big numbers in the dark. I downloaded the stopwatch to it...and the pebble plus app....which lets me find my iphone from my watch. i also synced the watch with my runkeeper program so i can see my mileage on my wrist while running or riding my bike. My wrist vibrates when i get a message or a call and shows the number. However, despite all the amazing synching with my iphone...I would love this watch just as a watch! waterproof, attractive and super useful.
One note: due to the negative reviews I did purchase the best buy additional insurance program for $19 for two years. And now I'm totally not worried about anything with my watch. If the display or battery go bad (two main complaints)...I'm covered..as I understand it and I just go back to best buy and they give me another one. Overall, so glad I bought the watch!

great smart watch
Posted by: SanAntonioTXuser from: San Antonio, TX on
I must mention that I noticed that the bottom right side button was completely missing after opening the box. There is a possibility that it popped off sometime after the initial box opening. I took it back to the store, exchanged, and all is good. I am impressed with the simplicity of this watch and the excellent battery life. Exactly 7 days ago, I bought this watch and connected to my iPhone 5S with iOS 7. The low battery indicator appeared today (7 days later) just as advertised. As far as notifications go, I seem to have received all phone calls, texts, and other various notifications with no issues. From a construction quality standpoint, the plastic is just ok and I hope the next version of this device will be a more traditional watch metal.

Does What I Expected
Posted by: techiemama from: South Carolina on
I waited to review this product until I'd had it a while to make sure that I didn't experience any of the issues that some of the other reviewers seemed to have had. So far, it's excellent. I am thoroughly enjoying my Pebble! It is doing exactly what tech reviews and ads said it could do- delivers notifications in a subtle manner when I can't be grabbing for my cell phone, allows me to control my music playlist from across the room, keeps me up-to-date with the weather, and gives me an average of 6 days between charges. I haven't downloaded a lot of the related apps that are available for the Pebble because the few that I have meet my needs, but it seems like there is an effort by third-party developers to get a few out there (at least for android).
Of course, an ultimate smartwatch has more features than what Pebble currently offers (color touchscreen with a long battery life, ability to make video or voice calls of high quality, etc.). Realistically, though, no developer is going to get it 100% right on the first few models. For the money and the features, Pebble is a great first effort! I'm proud to own one, and I plan to gift at least one for Christmas.

great concept, failed execution
Posted by: Ponoare from: charlotte on
I love the concept but there is still a ways to go on execution.
While looking cheap with an easy scratch screen, it proved that it can be done. Too bad the battery is problematic, while it can run days, it can also loose charge in 2 days.
Charger is also a good concept, too bad it is hard to stick in proper position
Mine is now in a software glitch where it asks to connect to the phone and when it does, once it updates software it looses charge - and on it goes again to the same cycle from the beginning with no end.
For the last couple of days I have no success in getting it going again...once it connects and updates, it starts from begining where it looks for connection, it is a loop...:o(
I contacted Pebble, no response yet, for now I wasted my $$$.
Hope they come up with a better product soon, or some one else does, the Metawatch that I tried is even worst...

Great for average to above average techies
Posted by: thebears5454 from: Phoenix, AZ on
I'd say for anyone that can easily navigate their bluetooth, smartphone menu's and app store this is a great purchase. I'd recommend anyone that's curious at least pick one up, Best Buy has a 15 day return policy. Pick one up, and try it out. If you don't think it's worth it just return it. I can easily see in a few years smartwatches will become a common sight.
I'd give this 4.5 stars if I could. It's not perfect, but it's very good at what it does.
Great: nav directions, text, email, phonecalls on my wrist, ablitity to launch/control any music player, and song info displayed on the screen. Quick preprogrammed text responses (only takes 3 button pushes) current uses: I'm on my way, Can't talk at School/work talk to you asap, Okay, Hey Whats up?. Might not sound like much but it's much more convenient than typing them out on my phone.
Not great: obviously the plastic band it comes with isn't flashy, but you can get a replacement for it fairly cheep, and a non-centralized app store means you have to search for apps.

I Like It - With One Exception
Posted by: urbanledgend from: Washington, DC on
I have had my Pebble for about 2 weeks now and overall I think it's a good product. The overall quality in workmanship is excellent. My only issue is that it has been tending to lose connection with my iPhone. A simple fix is to go to the bluetooth settings on the phone, turn it off and then back on.
The issue I have with that is the whole reason I got the Pebble was so I wouldn't have to take my phone out of my pocket unless I wanted to. I don't want to have to take it out to resolve connectivity issues.
One thing I will say, I did not anticipate people thinking I'm late for an appointment or in a hurry because I'm looking at my watch constantly.
Don't wear this to an interview...you might not get the job.

better than you would think from the reviews
Posted by: bradcon from: Apple Valley, CA on
Although there were a lot of reviews complaining about poor screen performance, I decided to take a chance and get one anyway. My screen works just fine. There are also a lot of complaints about how easily the watchface gets scratched. I've bumped mine into a wall, and the mark rubbed right off. No, it's not a sapphire crystal, but it's also not a $300 watch. Using it with iOS does take using some workarounds like installing the httpebble helper app, and it still doesn't work as good as it would with Android. However, It does work really well with various music apps for displaying and changing the current track, and it works well with notifications. Just being able to see text messages without taking my phone out of my pocket is probably worth the price, but there are a couple of great watchfaces that show weather information along with the time and date that seal the value for me. Until Apple comes along with something better, this is the smartwatch to get.

Works as advertised
Posted by: mikemcd22 from: New Hampshire on
I was very excited to try the Pebble Smart Watch. My first few trips to Best Buy were unsucessful as the employees had no idea what a "Pebble Smart Watch" was. On my second trip to purchase, I had to ask 4 different sales people only to find out they were locked up and only had the red one (I really didn't want a red watch). Finally got the black one on trip number 3 (and they were finally on the shelf with the "heart rate monitors")..
Anyway, I have had my Pebble for about 3 months now. Despite the reviews with people experiencing failures, mine worked out of the box and on the first try. I have used it with two different phones (Galaxy III and Nexus 5) and have never had a problem connecting. I have downloaded a few of the 3rd party apps and managed to use them successfully (Notifier, and Glance).
I also jumped in a hot tub and a pool with it and it IS waterproof. I typically get 3-4 days out of one charge and I have my Tuesday/Friday routine down now so it's not so bad.
To make this a 5 star review (for me) I would like to see the ability to increase the font size (My eyes are getting old...er) and I would like longer battery life, wireless charging and better interaction with the phone without having to go through a 3rd party app.
Bottom line... I got a good one and it works for me. I would buy it again if I lost it tomorrow. Looking forward to 2nd gen.
Hope this helps someone else.

Useful tool for your smartphone
Posted by: jonnybb1 from: San Diego, CA on
I was very interested in a companion to my smartphone that gives me notications and brief glimpses at messages as they come in.
The G.Gear was too expensive and too delicate. I was afraid to get it wet and use it at work for fear of damaging a $300 watch!
This Pebble Watch, at $150, is within my price range not only for purchase but for self insuring in the untimely event of an nasty incident.
It's not a personal computer nor a Dick Tracy watch so you won't be talking to it, but it does allow for viewing incoming calls, rejecting them, also controlling your music, viewing messages, and yes, even telling time.
Apps are slowly starting to become available and should be plentiful as it gains popularity.
