Does exactly what it says it does

Setup was super easy. I paired this to my Hue Bridge rather than directly to lights. It was quick and simple no instructions necessary. It just worked.

Must Have for Your Hue System
Posted by: SirDrake from: on
We purchased the Philips Hue Dimmer Switch with our Hue Starter Kit so that we could control our new lights like a traditional lighting system.
We didn't feel comfortable with only having the Hue App to control the lights. And Philips recommends leaving your Hue lights powered at all times.
This switch is easy to add to your Hue system and setup.
You have the option to assign lights to the switch and whether to just turn them on and off or you can assign a particular scene.
I decided to assign the default scene to the switch so no matter what state or scene the lights were last used with, this switch will turn them on to the default scene.
We mounted it on the wall next to the other set of light switches in our home. We also added a Light Switch Cover to cover the actual light switch that powers the Hue lights. This way the switch is always on and can't be turned off by accident. You can find the switch covers online.
The Hue Light switch is also removable from the wall mount so you can use it like a remote control.
So far we are pleased with our Hue Lighting system and the Dimmable Light Switch. For more info, see my review of the Philips Hue Starter Kit.
I highly recommend this switch for those who want to add a traditional style wall switch to their Philips Hue system.

Great, but not perfect
Posted by: UAAlumnus from: on
These dimmer switches are a MUST if you have the Hue lights. Without the dimmer switches, you need to turn your lights off via your phone or tablet every time you would like to turn the lights off, which isn't always convenient. Of course, you could simply flip the switch, but this renders the lights useless later, as they will no longer have power and they will not be connected to the Hue bridge. I removed the light switches from my walls, tucked them in the metal container in the wall, and covered them with a flat, plain electric outlet cover (without any holes or port openings). This allowed me to stick the dimmer switches over the existing light switches without worrying that the light switches would ever accidentally be turned off, preventing the lights from connecting to the Hue bridge. The dimmers look MUCH better than modern light switches and they are magnetic, so you can remove them from their plate and use them as a remote, if you'd like.
Unfortunately, they aren't perfect. If you're like me and you have a TON of wireless devices on your network, you will experience some interference at seldom times. If you ever press the dimmer switch and nothing happens, simply hit it 1-2 more times and it will most likely make it around the interference. You could also make sure that your wireless router fully reaches throughout the entirety of your home. If it doesn't, simply by an extender or another router to use as an extender. This will help to clear up any of the "dark" areas where the signal is weaker/non-existent.

A must get if you have Philips Hue Lights!
Posted by: schpeen from: on
This was such an incredible add on for Philips Hue light owners. The setup took me less than 1 minute and I was up and running. The remote works lighting quick with on/off and dimming of lights. If you have philips hue lights you have to pick some of these up.

Another great Hue product
Posted by: KenDog from: on
This is a great follow up to the Hue tap. This remote is good for single room use. You can only control one scene but it's very responsive and allows you to set a brightness level for that scene in 10% increments.
Set up was fast and easy as are all of the Hue line up and I look forward to more great Hue products in the future.

Great addition to a hue system
Posted by: BriS from: on
I've been looking for a light switch to go along with my hue lights in my living room. Since I have kids and a wife who don't want to deal with always using their phone to turn on lights, this solved that problem perfectly. I used to have a switch for these lights, but I just wired it to always be on and then put this switch over it. You can turn it on and off, and dim. The nice thing I didn't know is that when you hit the on button, it turns it to a specific scene of your choosing, and then if you hit it again, it can go to a difference scene. So I have it setup to turn on a low blue lights to watch TV when it is hit twice. You can do this for up to 5 scenes. Really went above and beyond my expectations. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because it doesn't screw in like a normal wall switch would, which made it hard to mount (especially over the hole where the wires were since the size of the device is just that big, you can't use their tape). Otherwise it is perfect. Easy to pair and use. I also love how you can pull off the switch and carry it around like a remote.

Cheaper than the Tap
Posted by: Creativityrules from: on
Tap switches are nice but they cost too much. I had to compromise and get these instead. For the price of 1 Tap you can get 2 Dimmer Switches. The only reason I paid premium to get into the Philips Hue ecosystem is because of the switches (Tap and Dimmer). Other smart light system lack a physical switch, and that is a deal breaker for me. Having to fumble through my phone to turn on/off a light is not smart.

Simple & quick, does exactly what I need
Posted by: kornfan71 from: on
I live in an apartment, and have Hue lights throughout. If maintenance workers ever came into my home it would be extremely dark, and they would have no idea how to turn on any of my lights since none of the wall switches would work. I wanted a quick way for anyone to turn my lights on and off without a phone/tablet, and this fit the bill.
I find it very useful for myself as well if I just want to quickly change the brightness of my lights or turn all the lights off - it's much quicker than using the app in that regard.

Sometimes I Just Want To Push A Button
Posted by: MJTheGeek from: on
I have a Philips setup that I like a lot that I use to light my my main living & dining area. I purchased this item because sometimes I do not want to have to get my phone or tablet to cut on/off my Hue setup.
The buttons are customizable (link to a certain scene of your choosing in the Hue App) and one of the things I really like the switch is held onto the plate by what I believe are magnets so it can be removed and used as a remote to control your light setup. I have had this running for several months now without any issues.
