Outstanding Sound Quality
Posted by: pcfitnessdotnet from: Coconut Creek, FL on
In my quest for great sound quality I returned 3 sound bars. The first was the Samsung HWF450 280W total power output for $299. The second was the Sony HTCT260 300W total power output $299. The third was the Samsung HWF550 300W total power output $349.
After spending a week on each sound bar, playing Xbox360 Call of Duty, loud music via Bluetooth, watching movies, I realized they all have something in common, a processed and "boxy" sound, especially noticeable on dialogue. The balance between the subwoofer and the sound bar never seemed quit right, or may I say, balanced. Probably because of all the special processing that has to go into the modes, Sports, Movie, Cinema, News, Music etc. Even when I turned them off they all still sounded like it was coming out of a box.
Finally, back to BestBuy to get another. After reading extensive reviews on the Pioneer SP-SB23W and hearing about it's amazing sound quality, I figured I'd give it a try, and I am so glad I did!
I'll break it down for you.
The Pioneer SP-SB23W offers outstanding sound quality for a sound bar, particularly when it comes to the blend between the sub and the main cabinet. Performance is even more impressive considering the size of the tiny wireless subwoofer, which is easy to hide in the room. And there's also built-in Bluetooth for wireless audio streaming. I have my entire iTunes library on my iPad, over 5000 songs, and I can play any playlist or track I want and it sounds just as good as my high end receiver that cost $1500, no joke.
The system's style won't wow you and the sound bar's relatively chunky size might block your TV's remote sensor like it did mine, but only marginal and was able to easily adjust the height of my TV. The included remote is mediocre and there's no front-panel display for visual feedback while making adjustments. Still, this was not a problem as you get use to what the different color led light mean.
The bottom line:
The Pioneer SP-SB23W is the best affordable sound bar, especially if you care about sound quality, It has outstanding sonics and balance between treble and bass making up for some of its design flaws.
We absolutely love it!

Great sound, poor reliability
Posted by: scrawnsthe1 from: Mesa, AZ on
I purchased this product about 60 days ago, for the first 30 days it worked great. Sound quality was excellent, no complaints when the system is working properly. Then the blue tooth feature stopped working, I tried 3 different devices and all would connect but no sound would come from the speakers. So I started researching the problem, come to find out that this is a known problem at Pioneer. On the Pioneer website, there is a notice posted stating that they are aware of the issue and to contact customer service. So my reason for the 1 star rating comes not so much from the product having an issue as it does from how Best Buy and Pioneer handled the issue when I brought it to their attention. First I tried to return it to Best Buy, explained that the issue wasn't an isolated one and that Pioneer had issued the statement about problems with the product. I was beyond their 15 day return policy so they would not accept it. I understand the return policy, however when a manufacturer issues out a memo that a certain product that is being stocked on Best Buy shelves has a serious problem. Best Buy should either pull the product or change the return policy on that specific product. On to how Pioneer is handling the problem, they are fixing the problem for free so long as you are within the 1 year warranty (which I am), but I have to ship the sound bar to their repair facility at my own expense, the shipping costs between 40 to 50 dollars depending on where you live. So I now have to pay an extra 50 dollars and go without the sound bar for a few weeks. So I issue a buyer beware warning to this product or any product purchased from Best Buy the return policy is very restrictive.

I have this Pioneer sound bar paired with my 60" Vizio and it sounds amazing.
The subwoofer blends seamlessly with the sound bar and everything from music to movies sounds fantastic.
If you are buying a sound bar for the quality of the sound that it can produce look no further.
After shopping sound bars for many months I finally pulled the trigger on this one and I'm glad I did. I even signed up for a Best Buy account just so I could leave this review.
Buy one of these and try it out. You'll be glad you did.

Lasted 2 Weeks
Posted by: SaltmarshCracker from: Atlanta, GA on
Purchased on 12/29/13 and set up same day. Worked perfectly at first and sounded amazing. After about a week the sub started dropping out and going onto stand-by mode while still in use. At first I could "reconnect" it by increasing volume, then only by power cycling the entire system with the switch on the sound bar. As of 1/17/14 (2 days after becoming ineligible to return to store) the sub is in permanent "stand-by" mode. Tried everything. Still just sits there.
Called Pioneer and am now waiting on a call tag to ship the unit back to them. When they receive it they will ship me a replacement. I'll go 2 weeks or so with no speakers at all, but don't have much choice at this point.
Did a little online research and found out Pioneer has had mucho problemo with this unit. I'll update when I get the new one, but for now avoid this product.

zero for two. Avoid this product.

Sounded great for the first couple of weeks. Then subwoofer would no longer pair. Tried everything, but it didn't work. Thankfully I had Best Buys protection plan so I could eventually exchange it. (they had to send it in first, couldn't fix it, gave me credit for a new one.) Instead of going with my gut and trying a different sound bar, I figured "one faulty product, chances are the second one will be fine." Nope. one week later, same problem. Multiple reviews confirmed the issue.

Sounds amazing! Performs exactly as designed.
Posted by: TBizcuit1 from: Chandler, AZ on
This speaker bar was designed by renowned audio engineer Andrew Jones to deliver the best sound possible in the price range/form factor. It definitely succeeds. Sounds amazing. Crystal clear dialogue, that was once hard to hear. Tight bass, extends fairly deep. Midrange is good, not too bright. Works great with TV shows, movies and especially music streaming through the Bluetooth feature. **FYI- I read so many reviews and reports about bugs with this unit, I have had zero problems. I would not let it hold you back from purchasing it. I listened to practically every sound bar and this sounded WAY better.

Good compared to Bose
Posted by: wmualumnus from: Royal Oak, MI on
I bought this soundbar and the Bose CineMate. The Bose was twice as much money and has less features (won't play mp3s from your phone like the Pioneer). The Pioneer sounds just the same (to me). I am returning the Bose.

Wireless didn't work right out of the box.
Posted by: drumndug from: Montana on
Purchased this as a graduation gift for my son. Well he graduated and then has been gone for several weeks. He finally got home and set the sound bar and wireless sub up but it won't keep the wireless connection. I didn't buy the extended service through Best Buy, we discovered all of this after the fifteen day return policy and now he has been given a runaround through the Pioneer service hotline. Feeling a little not so good about this purchase.

Very nice budget sound bar
Posted by: AP4Real from: New Jersey on
I actually bought 2 sound bars on the same exact day from Best Buy. This one from my new 60" in the living room and a Sony for my older 52" that I put in the basement.
I set up the sound bar about 4" below the tv, on the wall and put the sub behind the recliner towards the other side of the room.
Please keep in mind the reason I went this route was for convenience of not having to deal with 5 diff. sets of speakers and running insane amounts of wires all over my house. I like quality sound as much as the next, but I'm not that committed.
I give it like 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Draw backs: Not surround sound and only 2.1, but if you're a basic entertainer like me that watches a ton of sports, likes to stream music via their phone and watches the occasional movie on their TV then this is a very good choice for the lack of hassle and relatively low cost.
Side note: That bluetooth issue, I was told by Pioneer has been recently fixed. I thought I had an issue, but it turns out I just didn't know what I was doing.

Part missing and terrible customer service
Posted by: Sonofbuyer from: Delaware, ohio on
My mom bought this to put into a brand new home. Three weeks later, I arrived to hook it up and discovered it was missing a power cord. Pioneer customer service is Monday thru Friday only and BestBuy would not do anything because the purchase was greater than 15 days prior. Apparently spending over $14,000 on tV's and kitchen appliances doesn't give you any special (or reasonable) treatment! My two hour trip to moms house to hook this up was partially a waste. Now it is three weeks later and after dozens of attempts to contact Pioneer via phone(always busy) and email, I have received ONE email back....they have provided me the part number and the COST for ME to order a replacement. I'm fed up!
