Stick Up Cameras, Great. Doorbell, Not So Great!
Posted by: ikeymay from: spokane, wa on
got all this stuff set up last week. it's a decent package of stuff, and a good value compared to buying each item separately.
the stick up cameras are great, and everything was easy to set up. the doorbell camera works wonderfully as a doorbell camera and as a doorbell, but not very well at all as a motion detector. (see videos included in this review)
i've spent some (too much) time chatting with customer service at Ring. they want to sell me the more expensive Pro doorbell and tell me my problem is that, due to a couple of steps leading up to my door, the sensors "see over" my head.
weirdly, i can see all of me, head to toe, from my gate to my front door, but the sensors don't trigger the alarm or camera til i'm literally walking past the camera. i've shared videos showing this with customer support, but they insist it's a problem of angle. llok at the following videos and you be the judge.
in this video i exited the white truck on the curb and walked up the sidewalk, up the steps, and into my door before the motion detectors detect me https://ring.com/share/682109625
in this one i trigger the alarm manually, then describe my expectations
as near as i can tell from their "help", this will only work properly if you have a street level door, no steps, and a prefectly level yard. if that's really the case, it should be clearly stated in the item description.

Good Wireless Security Camera
Posted by: Drelucas from: on
The Ring doorbell camera and 2 stickup camera's were fairly easy to link up with my Wi-Fi/app and install. The part that took some time was dialing in the motion zones and sensitivity for each camera. This system appealed to me because I was NOT interested in running video cable or installing a power source for each camera. After a week, the battery life on the stickup camera's is around 90% and we have set them off ourselves about 3 or 4 times a day testing and adjusting. I'm guessing they will require a full charge every 2 to 3 months. My doorbell is hardwired so I won't have to charge that. If you want reliable video footage from the camera's, plan on spending $3/month per a device for the Cloud service. Otherwise, if you don't have your smart phone, tablet, or PC in hand when the camera is set off you won't see what's there. I think $9/month for 3 devices on the Cloud service will be worth it for peace of mind. I will probably buy 1 or 2 more of the stickup camera's for other exterior areas around my house.

I installed the ring doorbell but have not installed the stick up cameras yet. So my review will be based on my experience with the doorbell only. The doorbell was very easy to hard wire into my current system and took only about 30 to 40 min to get up and running. I have between a 15 and 30 second delay from the time motion is detected until I get an alert on my phone. I am told this is based off wifi speed. My wifi seems to be fast and the unit gets good signal. When someone rings the doorbell it takes about 10 to 12 seconds to get the alert on my phone. The video and sound quality is good. I contacted customer service regarding live view and they set it up. Very friendly customer service. I am very satisfied with the system and honestly would give it 5 stars if the delay was a little less. I don't know the delay is caused by the ring system though. I would recommend this product to people. The video service to have the videos saved is 30 dollars a year per unit. Not bad. You do not need the paid service to use the system. You just can not review saved videos without it.

Great camera/easy setup process/Durable
Posted by: ARKHAN from: on
I have installed 1 door bell, 1 chime, 2 stick up camera, and 1 solar panel in use for stick up camera.
Pros: Easy setup, Easy to use App, Good Quality picture, LIVE view for stick up cam has been added recently, Door bell Camera 180 degree view, Night vision for door bell is excellent, Motion sensor works great. Chime inside the house sounds in real time but App takes about 5 second to respond with picture (App lags due to internet provider connection speed). Solar panel works great, installed when stick up cam had 65% charge left. It took about 3 hrs to charge the unit back to 100%. I have ordered second solar panel for backyard camera.
Cons: Motion sensor is too sensitive, Camera wakes up to tree brunch movement or passing cars (even though it says there is algorithm, that learns movement over time). Stick up camera shows 80 degree field view. 180 deg view would better since motion sensor range capable of sensing 180 degree in settings. Stick up camera need stronger infrared light. If you have light at the location of camera you could recognize the face. Other wise hard to see without adequate light.
Overall positive experience and definitely recommend. I would like to see live view for Front door bell (older model). I believe with the new model, you can see live view.

We purchased this security system for our home and are happy with it. The best thing is the price! We received estimates for monitored video security and the prices were crazy so we opted for this. I installed them myself easily (be sure your drill batteries are charged!) in about 2 hours. The only issue we had was that our wifi signal wasn't reaching the doorbell because of brick walls so we had to buy a wireless range extender ($40). Everything works great and we now see when deliveries and our housekeeper arrives- which is the extent of our visitors. I definitely recommend; by the way we still have the regular alarm monitoring so this is just an add on for us for more security.

Lots of flaws

I am someone who reads reviews before buying a product. Though this product had mixed reviews I went ahead trusting the company and their motivation to make this product. However I am totally disappointed. The Ring door bell doesnt capture the motion at the right time. I always end up seeing the person's back most of the time which kills the purpose. I am having a hard time trying to adjust the motion alert range. If i set a long motion range i get notification for every car on the street. Sometimes even if the tree shakes and its shadow moves (tree is not even in the camera view angle). If i set lower range i dont get notifcation at twilight time frame (6.30-7.30 pm) I have verified my wifi strength is great. I dont need a wifi extender. I dont get real HD video the way they have in their advertisement. I am off the 30 day period otherwise i would have returned this for sure.

Great views from the camera

Picture is excellent and captures everything in a wide range in the front of the house. Notification settings take a while to tweak. Battery life of stick up cams is weak. Would like to find a way to secure them better. Can easily be stolen.

Disappointed and Unsatisfied

Video quality is poor on windows 10 PC. If you hard wire the device, you STILL need to remove and charge the device. Customer support said the battery runs down due to lots of activity (they defined it as 2 to 3 activities per day) . Well we get salespeople, windy conditions, lizards crawling on the porch daily and all activate the motion.
The device never notified me of low battery. It was and is inconvenient removing and charging this device. Charge doesn't even last 60 days. I was told that it maintains a little charge. So, when I discovered this, I stopped charging it. This is an expensive device for it to not work as designed.
It doesn't always notify you of activity, or it is very delayed.
They also don't tell you that your WiFi router must be within 10 feet of the device. Mine is about 15 - 20 feet away. They said to purchase an extender and connect the Ring to the extender. Well, this just makes it more expensive.
Ring offered the new version, but said I would have to pay the difference, which is about $50. I don't think so! Why invest more money in something that may or may not work.
Great concept and technology, but it just does not work as expected. Ring needs to disclose more and test more. I am not pleased and would not recommend this $200 device. It needs to improve, significantly.
