Waste of money!

We have had the dreaded SE error twice now. About 1.5 years after purchase and now after another year and a half. Samsung actually came and fixed it free of charge the first time since it was pretty new, but from what I hear that isn't standard practice. It's worked great except for the vent when you boil pasta - that's what caused the error. Too much moisture gets in the control panel. We had a spaghetti dinner last week and now this week again and it pretty much did my microwave in. If you boil any water/pasta a lot beware of this product.

This was the first time I purchased a samsung product and so far I have been happy. Very nice design and looks great over the stove. Very quite when running however one downfall is there is no light inside the microwave so you can not see if your food is being over cooked.

Basic microwave, sophisticated appearance but dim
Posted by: rewind from: Hawaii on
This over-the-range microwave is a basic microwave without too many fancy features found on higher-end models. It does come with a two-speed fan and two-level cooking light. The fan, used in ductless mode, directs air through the back and out the top front of the microwave, and is quite adequate for the job. However, the incandescent cooking light is very dim, even at the “high” setting. Another feature that is dim on this microwave does not use power, but could have benefitted from a design change. The touch keypad to use the microwave has thin lettering and numbers on a black overlay and is virtually invisible in a darkened kitchen at night. (Our previous countertop microwave had black numbers and letters on a white background and could very easily be seen in the same light conditions.) One can learn to find the cooking light key since it’s on the bottom row, but since that light is so dim it’s no help to see the rest of the keypad. Perhaps this keypad could have benefitted from thicker and more contrasty numbers and letters, or better yet a backlight feature. As noted, this Samsung microwave is very basic. It has 1000 watts of power, selectable in 10 power levels. The interior is rated at 1.6 cu. ft., which is quite spacious, but the glass turntable is only 11.5 inches in diameter, rather small for a microwave this size. Installation seems standard for an OTR microwave, but in our case, the range hood that it replaced had been hard-wired into an opening in the backsplash area. I had to disconnect the range hood, seal the backsplash, cut an opening in the back of the cabinet above the installation area, reconnect the wires to an outlet (I chose a GFCI outlet), fasten the outlet into the back of the cabinet, and then plug the microwave into that outlet (after drilling a hole in the bottom of the cabinet. The microwave hangs on a bracket against the backsplash connecting to the lower edge of the microwave, and by two large screws on either side of the top front of the microwave. Opening the microwave door requires a forceful pull of the oversize, metal-clad handle. The microwave is quite basic, but the stainless steel front lends at least an appearance of sophistication to the kitchen.

Installed with no issues, a great product, just a little louder than my previous model.

Installation is very easy.

Simple to use, buttons are pretty self explanatory. Easily installed. I usually put Samsung microwaves in all my rental properties.

Nice microwave for the price. Easy to install. Easy to use. It does not have quick cook 1,2, or 3 minutes. Had that on my old microwave was a nice feature. It does have add 30 seconds.

Not happy with product or Best Buy customer supt.
Posted by: bog4 from: L.O. on
Unit does not have all the bells and whistles. Very basic but it does work very well. The problem I have is that when it starts up, it is very loud for about 3 seconds and then is quiet. Sounds like a loose part. I called Best buy customer support after 16 days of use to and I was told that I only had 15 days for an exchange or return and that I had to call the manufacturer. Not happy with BestBuy as I was assuming a 30 day policy like most companies. But I called manufacturer and sure enough there is a defective part that they are replacing. Just some extra pain in the you know what!! Unit works ok though for a basic unit.

I'm happy with my Samsung microwave. Word to the wise - look carefully at dimensions before purchasing. There are larger microwaves out there, but I went with this size because I didn't want something that hung too low over my stove. I'm just heating things up in it and cooking some veggies... not preparing a 20 pound turkey!
